    BEACH REPORT CARD: April 2014-March 2015 Water quality is tested for indicator bacteria year-round at more than 300 locations along the West Coast 633 sites from April through October by various public agencies. Heal the Bay analyzes the data, assigns grades to the beaches and advises that beachgoers use the information to minimize their exposure to potentially contaminated water.

    Three of the notorious Beach Bummers the bottom 10 most polluted in the state were in Los Angeles County:

    Grading: Points are subtracted from a perfect score of 100 depending upon the severity of bacterial counts. The better the grade, the lower the risk of illness to swimmers, surfers and bathers.
