LEARNING AT BELROSE PS This week began with the presentation of swimming ribbons. Congrat-ulations, boys and girls. At Belrose PS, we are big enough to provide the students with a diverse range of opportunities but small enough that all staff members know every child. We continue to create a stimu-lating learning environment so that each child connects to his/her learn-ing, to thrive and succeed and we continue to have a very engaging community that has a strong sense of ownership of which the P&C provides social events such as the successful Welcome Back night. My role continues to be a very important role with not just being a business and people manager but to lead the teaching and learning within the school. We have high expectations that every child will grow by at least a year with their learning. As explained to the parents on P/I nights, we are making our focus on integrated units of work so that the students can apply their knowledge, skills and capabilities across a wide range of curriculum areas to acquire a deep mastery of necessary skills. At least 50% of our teaching program includes the teaching of English and Mathematics. These essential skills are transferred across all KLAs to Science, Geography, History, Creative and Practical Arts as well as with PD/Health and PE. Students of Stage 2 and 3, as part of their liter-acy unit, will be working on a number of sustained learning tasks over the year. As shown in the photo below, we often use rubrics which pro-vide students with a clear understanding of what is expected of them. It indicates our high expectations of their work and provides students with concrete directions of what success can look like. It additionally pro-vides students with feedback, as a tool to further develop their abilities.

PEER SUPPORT We began our first Peer Support session with year 6 students greeting their group members. The multi-aged groups of about 8-10 students from Kindergarten to Year 5 began firstly with a focus on getting to know each other and then empowering our young students to support each other in the playground. CPR TRAINING All staff will complete their annual CPR and analyphaxis training next Wednesday afternoon. Our school has a defibrillator out-side the sick bay, red medical bags containing individual health plans for our analyphaxis students as well as five backpacks with first aid materials and asthma sprays. Our Health and Safety Directorate advises us to not provide sun cream, sting-goes or medi-cream for fear of an allergic reaction. If you child comes home wearing a bandaid, the wound has been cleaned with water but would require additional care at home. ENTRY TO YEAR 7 IN 2021—SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL Test centre advice should have been sent to parents today. It will include the location of the allocated test centre, a letter of au-thority to sit the test and information about the test for parents and students. The advice is sent by email (to two email addresses if two have been provided) unless parents chose to receive all correspondence by mail. Most test centres will be filled to capacity so it is not possible to change a student's test centre. A list of 2020 test centres will be published shortly in the test section. The test will be held on 12 March 2020. It starts at 9am and finishes at approximately 1:30pm.

We are asking all families to start to save your bread tags. The bread tags will
be sent to a recycling plant in South Australia to be made into door knobs,
coasters and floor tiles. The proceeds from the sale of these products will go
towards the less fortunate in South Africa to purchase wheelchairs.
Please leave all bread tags in the jar located in the school office!
Coding Club
Coding club is on every Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes for students in years 3-6. We are lucky enough to have 3
different robotics for use this term. Each week we are learning new things about the Dash and Dot robots and the Lego
Wedo 2.0. We have been problem solving, building using Lego and coding our robotics to move. Kindergarten will soon be
exploring the BeeBot robotics in class. Coding club continues to be very popular with Minecraft now available! Students are
busy creating new worlds, problem solving and collaborating together. Mrs Jones

Please click on the link and check the roster if you’d be so kind to spend some time helping out. https://volunteersignup.org/ATRTD P&C What a wonderful time we all had at the Welcome BBQ last Friday. The slide was awesome and all the children seemed to really enjoy themselves. A huge thankyou to all the volunteers that helped out on the day. A very special mention to the Year 6 students that came along and ended up helping with supervision and helping the really little ones up and then off the slide. They were not asked to help but all jumped in and leant a helping hand, which was very much appreciated. Thankyou. We will be sending out a poll in the next week or two to get the ball rolling on our beautification project. I have already been ap-proached by a couple of parents who would like to help. If there is anyone else please drop me an email at [email protected] Our annual disco will be help on Friday 3 April, look out for information to come in the following weeks.
