Hope this New Year is treating you well so far! Thank you to everyone who supported our holiday lasa- gna sales! Some of you have already asked for more, so we are planning another lasagna sale near Easter! Stay tuned for the details! At our December 19 th meeting, we installed our new coun- cil members. We have a new Bethel Guardian, Mrs. Sally Han- sen, who was formerly the Guardian Director of Epochs. Mrs. Heidi Quintrell is now our Guardian Director of Music. And we have a new council member, Ms. Sherri McKenna who is our new Director of Epochs. Welcome aboard, Ms. McKenna! Because Mrs. Quintrell had served our Bethel for 6 years as Bethel Guardian, we made a present to her of a scrapbook we all helped put together. She loved it as she has never had a scrapbook before ever! We also sang to her “Rainbow Connec- tion” which is a favorite of hers. To keep from crying, she sang along with us. Thank you to Mrs. Karen Parlato for be- ing our Musician for the evening so Mrs. Quintrell could sit in her Bethel Guard- ian chair and just enjoy the evening ... until we installed new Council and Mrs. Quintrell had to give up the seat. Our last meeting of the term on January 2, 2017, was very small in- deed. Due to illness and bad weather, only 4 Daughters and 4 Council Mem- bers were present. But we had a nice meeting anyway, with the 4 Daughters choosing to form a triangle during clos- ing instead of a cross. On January 8, 2017, we had our 176 th installation of of- ficers. The theme was “Music and Harmony” and the colors were maroon and gold. Brooke Hansen was installed as Hon- ored Queen for the second time, choosing as her opening cer- emony the “Book of Music.” Our other officers for the term are Melina McKenna, Sr. Princess; Erin Hansen, Jr. Princess; Kathryn Quintrell, Guide; Sarah Quintrell, Chaplain; Olivia Matlock, 1 st Messenger; Adrienne Kerr, 5 th Messenger; Betsy Woods, Recorder; Rachael Livingston, Sr. Custodian; Azura Gibney, Jr. Custodian; Catherine Cataldo, Inner Guard; and Sara Woods, Outer Guard. We were very glad to see all the visitors who came, and hope to see you all again soon! That same evening, some of us attended the Ferndale Masonic installation, and were honored to have been asked to escort the U.S. flag for the occasion. And that’s all for this time. Keep an eye on the Trestleboard for more details about what we are planning for the term! Hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day! Bethel No. 86 Arcata, JDI

Greetings, Sisters and Brothers – We had fun at our January 4th meeting. Thank you to Sister Kris for providing the delicious refresh-

ments, and thank you for everyone who helped set up and take down the Chapter Room. You have no idea how much that means! Congratulations to the four New Year’s Bingo winners. And thank you to everyone who came to the meeting. There was quite a bit of sickness going around, and bad weather as well, so a double thank you to those who braved it all to be present! Next meeting is February 1. Since February is National Li-brary Month and also contains Tell a Fairy Tale Day, that is our theme! We hope everyone who comes will be ready to tell us about a story that was meaningful to him/her in his/her child-hood. It can be a fairy tale, a tall tale, a fable, a nursery rhyme, a legend, a myth, folktale, magazine story, or any book or story at all that you consider special in some way. We look forward to hearing what everyone has to share! Also, please bring to the February meeting a non-perish-able food item (or two or three) in a non-breakable container to donate to Food for People. Our donation in December was a whopping 37.5 pounds! Let›s see how well we can do in Febru-ary! Thanks! The Books for Bike program is making headway. I think. We have chosen Lafayette School this year, and I have a call in to the principal there to see if she is willing to work with us on this project. I hope to hear from her soon. Our March 1 meeting will have a theme of Mardi Gras/Springtime. This is just a head›s up so you can plan ahead! Do not forget to put on your calendar that our Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron’s Official Visit is on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. in Fortuna, and is a social. There will be more details to come, but please be sure to put that on your cal-endar and plan to be there to meet the Grand Family and socialize with other members of our District you might not see every month. Another date to put on your calendar is Friday, March 24, at 6:00 when there will be a special speaker that I think everyone will find fascinating. I loved listening to him at Grand Chapter. The venue will be HSU and the public will also be invited. There will be light refreshments, and the subject is - I believe - engross-ing, so please save the date and plan to attend! Looking forward to seeing all our treasured friends soon

Eureka Court No. 109Order of the Amaranth

Honored Ladies and Sir Knights. We are now approaching the month of Love, Valen-tines, and many other things. Are you all ready to sweep those in your life off their feet with special things? But before you go too far in that direction, remember that the shortest month of the year is also the month of the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday on February 1st, Chinese New Year’s (the year of the rooster just began on January 28th), Mardi Gras (on January 31st) and Pres-ident’ Day honoring George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. And in keeping with Valentine’s Day it is also Ameri-can Heart Assoc. Month, National Bird Feeding Month, and last but number one National Chocolate Lovers Month. Here’s hoping the Ground Hog arouses on a cloudy day so that (historically) Spring will be right around the corner. And our Amaranth Meeting will be held on the 22nd of February. And if the highway is open and function-ing properly you may have some snacks following the meeting. The Theme of the Evening is “Love Abounds” and red and white or other lovely colors may be in or-der. Also, this is the month that all reports are due to be given in the meeting. If they are not available, we will be unable to hold elections. The Theme of March will be “Shamrocks and Lep-rechauns.” This would be a green (or Orange, depend-ing on your choice) night. I personally haven’t seen too many shamrocks or leprechauns dressed in orange but that may have happened with all the “green-Beer” that I have only heard about. What about you? So now we say, “Join us in our celebrations of the heart”, and fellowship with your friends at our next meeting.

From the Chief Swan and Head Fox,JoAnna and Bill

We want to begin the new year with a special tribute to Redwood Shrine club’s outgoing Presi-

dent Noble Ken Spaulding for his outstanding leadership during his tenure. Ken and Lady Karen really set the bar high for involvement in our many Shrine activities. All Redwood Nobles are extremely grateful for their contributions supporting our club on behalf of Shriner children. As for what is ahead, our change of gavel dinner will be held February 18th at the Moose Lodge in Eureka. Menu is prime rib and chicken. Bulletin will be forth coming and will also schedule a President’s crab feed at the home of Noble Gene and Lady Janet Stiles on a date to be announced. In closing, I’m hon-ored to be serving as President of Redwood Shrine Club during 2017. Remember the kids, it’s what we’re all about. Fraternally yours,Ken Christiansen, President

Dear Masonic family and friends, At our Installation of Officers on

the 28th of January everyone had the sweetest time! The theme was “Imagine Your World” and decorations were all about “Candy Land” complete with a ‘candy bar’, more sweets than you can imagine and super cute table toppers. The Assembly’s Oreo Truffle Sale began at the Installation and will continue through February 9th. Truffles sell for $7 a dozen. We have two different types, mint and original. To order a dozen, contact our Mother Advisor by phone or email: (707) 599-3373 - [email protected]. You can also place orders with Alicia Garrison (270) 348-5723, or any girl of our Assembly. Our Clothing Drive for Alice Birney Elementary School also began the day of Installation. You can help by donating gently used clothes that are good for Eureka weather. Give the clothes to any girl of our Assem-bly and we will deliver them in March. Exciting news! Olivia Matlock, PWA, has been an-nounced as Grand Page to the Grand Executive Committee for Grand Assembly. Congratulations, Olivia! On February 19th, we have our Mystery Trip! I am en-listing help from our Masonic Family but everyone will be sworn to secrecy so plans stay a surprise for the Rainbow girls. Our meetings are February 13th and 27th and begin at 7 p.m. We love visitors and hope to see you at our February meetings and events. Happy Valentine’s Day!

NOW HOW DO THEY DO THIS?

1. Grab a calculator (you won’t be able to do this one in your head) 2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code -- example: 555-976-5555 -- you’d use “976” )3. Multiply by 80 4. Add 1 5. Multiply by 250 6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone num-ber (e.g. 5349) 7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone num-ber again8. Subtract 250 9. Divide number by 2. (Wow! Try it again with a different number.)
