BioPlex “ORIGINAL DIGGING” Transplant Concentrate & Plant Enhancer is a powerful concentrated liquid biostimulant complex formulated from cold processed ascophyllum nodosum seaweed extract, humic extract, enzymes, and a new generation nonionic wetting agent. This unique formula boosts photosynthetic and cellular capacity and increases antioxidants, even when applied under stressful, adverse environmental conditions.

BioPlex “ORIGINAL DIGGING” Transplant Concentrate & Plant Enhancer is most frequently used by tree movers, landscape contractors, and nurseries in support of the harvest and transplantation of trees, shrubs, and other ornamentals. ALL plants respond well to this product, including deciduous, conifer and palm type trees and shrubs. Containerized and bedding plants also become established more quickly with less stress symptoms when the product is used at planting.

As we develop natural, holistic, eco-sensitive approaches to managing man-made planting environments, we must consider the inseparable relationships between beneficial soil organisms located within the rhizosphere. Mycorrhizal fungi are one of the more important groups of soil organisms. They play a critical role in optimizing plant health and vigor. When these soil and root relationships are altered by such occurrances as high phosphate fertilization, or a cultivated, ammended planting site, these relationships are degraded and require periodic augmentation to maintain these important natural, beneficial relationships. BioPlex Water Soluble Endo-EctoMycorrhizal Soil & Root Inoculants is a micronized powder inoculum consisting of a proprietary blend of spores, including four endomycorrhizal fungi species and seven ectomycorrhizal fungi species. To increase biodiversity and promote additional soil benefits and plant response, 21 additional beneficial biological cultures are included to optimize plant, root, and soil responses. The ultra-micronized powder comes in a particle size less than 300 microns (#50 screen). Incredibly, about 90% of the world’s known plant species form symbiotic unions with beneficial endomycorrhizal and ecto-mycorrhizal fungi.

Common applications include being applied as a surface (soil) drench around established plants, cool and warm season turf grass, seedbeds, and propagation trays. Under natural conditions, plants live in close association with beneficial soil organisms (many called mycorrhizal fungi and others microbial or biological cultures). Several miles of mycorrhiza (root inoculate) in the form of mycelia filaments can be present in less than a thimbleful of soil around healthy, vigorously growing plants. Fungal-root relationships are mutually beneficial because the plant enjoys improved nutrient and water uptake, disease resistance, superior stress tolerance, and enhanced growth characteristics. In return, the fungi receive food substrates from natural plant root metabolites to survive. While not so glamorous, this association between plants and mycorrhizal fungi is fundamental to successful plant establishment and long-term survival.

BioPlex (Multi Purpose) Granular Endo-EctoMycorrhizal Soil & Root Inoculum is a formulation consisting of 12 carefully selected species of endomycorrhizae, ectomycorrhizae, plus 12 select bacterial and microbial species. It contains 16 species of endo-ectomycorrhizal fungi cultures and beneficial bacteria that colonize most plant roots and soils. Mycorrhiza mycelia filaments (which form a root-like system) increase the adsorbing capacity of roots 10 to 10,000 times. All BioPlex Hydro MAXX Fertilizers are formulated with BioPlex proprietary BAST (Buffer And Stabilization Technology), which minimizes, often nearly eliminating, repetitive and time-consuming interim water pH & PPM variation adjustments.

2015 Lettuce Grow Trial:An independent, third-party BioPlex Hydro MAXX nutrient test (Lettuce grown VGS) was started on 7/20/2015 and completed on 8/10/2015 using a new two-part Hydro MAXX nutrient system. The #1 component of this system is a dry soluble microprill referred to as BioPlex Hydro MAXX Veggie Harvest. The NPK ratio of BioPlex Hydro MAXX Veggie Harvest is 2.5-4-36. The second component of this new nutrient regime we tested is a liquid concentrate named BioPlex Hydro MAXX 5-0-0 Grow Base.

“The results from this preliminary independent Field Test Grow in our Vertical Growing System – Not only did we see a significant increase in yield, the stability of the nutrient mix design was impressive. Taste/color/texture was not impacted and in fact it was as good if not better than the control nutrient mix design. With the increased stability of the nutrients, we would anticipate based on historic data that

our labor cost to grow this version of Spirit Mix will be reduced substantially. Also, having an increase in yield of this order of magnitude will allow our existing VGS units to achieve better profitability for approximately the same nutrient cost due to the increase in yield when compared to the control nutrient mix design.”

Quality turf requires successfully managing the soil, root and rhizosphere. Environmental concerns and university research have both fueled much of the recent resurgence in the use of natural organic amendments and organo-compost fertilizers as tools for managing sustainable high-quality turf. According to Dr. Eric Nelson, turf grass specialist at Cornell University, “The challenge of the turf grass manager is to become an expert not only in the management of what everyone can see above the ground, but in the management of beneficial soil microorganisms to maximize turf grass health.”

Recent research on the use of organic fertilizers, processed meal amendments, and composts on turf grass have focused on (1) the suppression of turf grass diseases, (2) the potential for reducing fungicide and fertilizer inputs, and (3) the effects on the physical, chemical, and microbiological properties of soils.

An abbreviated summary of results has documented that a minimum of twice annual bio-based organic top-dressing of golf course greens and tees have shown to be effective in reducing the potential severity of future turf grass diseases, while improving numerous soil, plant and root-rhizo related enhancements necessary for sustaining highly managed, high quality turf grass. Sustaining a healthy and diverse population of soil organisms requires on-going additions of organic matter, a near neutral pH, and a balanced supply of bio-based nutrients.

(1) Importance of Effectively Managing the Root Zone and Rhizosphere:Microbes, part of a diverse ecosystem of microorganisms in the soil, form the foundation for successfully maintaining turf through nonchemical methods. Ideally, high quality soil requires active populations of earthworms, fungi, and beneficial nematodes. In turn, optimal populations of healthy, dense, beneficial microbial populations aggressively feed on disease causing microbes, out- competing them for food and water. At the same time, they coat the roots and blades of grasses, blocking pathogens and making vital nutrients more readily available to the plant. High maintenance turf however is managed under LESS than IDEAL con-ditions and circumstances and therefore requires additional soil and root management strategies to help achieve optimal, pro-biotic microbial populations necessary for high quality, healthy turf.

(2) Chitin, a Second Pathway to Bio Induced Disease Suppression (BIDS):Less publicized research cites a second natural pathway to reduce disease pressure in turf and ornamental plants. It involves chitin, a polymer of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, which is a physiological component of the fungal cell wall and is NOT found in plants. Note that almost ALL plant cells are equipped with chitin-degrading enzymes (to digest and degrade fungal

cell walls) and are capable of perceiving chitin fragments (chitooligosaccharides) released from fungal cell walls during fungal infection. The chitin (pathogen related) recognition in plants results in the activation of defense-signaling pathways in the plant. The chitin-signaling pathway overlaps with the phytobacterial signaling pathways, suggestingthat plant cells may perceive different signals from various pathogens via specialized receptors and then utilize a conserved, common downstream pathway to mediate (as enzymes degrade pathogen cell walls) disease resistance.

Typical Topdressing/ Soil Incorporation Protocol: The best way to incorporate non chemical, natural organic amendments into the soil is through aeration. A good method of incorporation is to apply the amendment first, followed by several passes with an aerator equipped with hollow-tines and a heavy drag mat attached. The drag mat will break-up the cores and mix the organic amendment with the soil, dragging some of the mix back into the holes. This operation is best performed during cool/moist seasons when grass is actively growing and soil temperature generally exceeds 52° F. Important, aeration and dragging can be stressful to the turf during hot, dry weather; therefore, Spring and Fall are best suited to achieve optimal results.

BioPlex Advanced Polymer GEL Crystals is an easy-to-use dry, unhydrated, stabile, granular gel polymer used for managing and conserving moisture in turf, landscape, nursery, and horticulture applications.
