Mother, St. Joseph stands above all thesaints” (St. Maximilian
Kolbe – p. 85, Consecration to St. Joseph – The Wonders of Our
Spiritual Father by Fr. Donald Calloway, MIC). In order to motivate
us to, “Go to Joseph,” I will be sharing a few gems from the
Chapter in Fr. Calloway’s book entitled, “Wonder 1: Delight of the
Saints.” “TheAlmightyhas
concentratedinSt.Joseph,asinaSunofunrivalledluster,thecom-bined
lightandsplendorofall theothersaints(Saint Gregory Nazianzen ibid.
p. 86). “The following dis-tinctions were created by theologians
and are very helpful for understanding the reverence due to God and
his saints.
latria (adoration) --- to God alone hyperdulia(highest
reverence) --- to Mary protodulia( irst revered) --- to St.
Joseph
dulia(revered) --- to all other saints” (ibid p. 89). “In her
autobiography, St. Teresa of Avila tells the story of how she was
healed from a serious illness through the intercession of St.
Joseph. …She was so convinced of the power and ef icacy of St.
Joseph’s intercession that she challenged people to put devo-tion
to St. Joseph to the test. …She wrote, “I do notremember that Ihave
everaskedanything fromhimthathehas
failedtogrant.…ToothersaintstheLordseems tohave given grace
tohelpus in some of ournecessities.Butmyexperience is thatSt.
Josephhelpsus in themall;also that theLordwishes to
teachusthat,ashewashimselfsubjectonearth toSt.
Joseph,soinheavenhenowdoesallthatJosephasks”(Ibid.p.89-90). Around
three hundred years prior to this ex-hortation by St. Teresa of
Avila, we ind this state-ment from another Doctor of the Church,
St. Thomas Aquinas, “There are many saints to whom God has given
thepowertoassistusinthenecessitiesoflife,butthepow-ergiventoSt.Josephisunlimited:Itextendstoallourneeds,andall
thosewho invokehimwith con idencearesuretobeheard”(ibidp.90).Given
these testimonies, chosen out of many others, is it any wonder why
we as St. Joachim parish com-munity are asking for St. Joseph’s
help in the Financ-ing, Planning and the Building of our much
needed new church!

motivarnos a “Ir a José”, compartiré algunas joyas del Capitulo
en el libro del Padre Calloway titulado “Maravilla 1: Delicia de
los Santos”.

incomparable, la combinación de luz y esplendor detodos los demás
santos. (San Gregorio Nacianceno, p.² ⁰ ). “Las siguientes
distinciones fueron creadas por teólogos y nos ayudan a comprender
la reverencia que le debemos dar a Dios y a sus Santos.
Latría(Adoración) – a Dios únicamente Hiperdulía (La más alta
veneración) – a Marıá Protodulía (primacía y superioridad) – a San
José Dulía (Reverencia) – A todos los demás santos
“En su autobiografıá, Santa Teresa cuenta la historia de có-mo
fue sanada de una grave enfermedad por la intercesión de San
José. …Estaba tan convencida del poder y e icacia de la
intercesión de San José, que desafıó a la gente a poner a prueba
esa devoción. …Ella escribió, “Hasta ahora
nomeacuerdohaberlesuplicadoalgoquenomehayaconcedido.…AlosotrossantosparecequeelSeñorlesdiolagraciaparasocorrerenalgunasnecesidades.PeromiexperienciaesqueSanJosénossocorrecontodas;tambiénsabequelosdeseosdelSeñoresenseñarnoseso,asícomoestuvosujetoenlatie-rraaSan
José,así loestáenelcieloy hacecuanto José lepide. (p. 89-90).
Aproximadamente trescientos años antes de esta exhortación de
Santa Teresa de Avila, encontramos esta declaración de otro Doctor
de la Iglesia, Santo Tomas de Aquino,
“HaymuchossantosaquienesDiosleshaotorga-do el poder de ayudarnos en
nuestras necesidades de
vida,peroelpoderotorgadoaSanJoséesilimitado,extendiéndosea
todasnuestrasnecesidades, y todosaquellos que lo invo-quenconcon
ianzasindudaseránescuchados.”(p. 90). ¡Dados estos testimonios,
elegidos entre muchos otros, es de extrañar porque nosotros, como
comunidad parroquial de San Joaquıń, estamos pidiendo la ayuda de
San José para el inanciamiento, ¡la plani icación y la
construcción de nuestra nueva iglesia tan necesaria!
