Capacity

You have already looked at measuring the amount of liquid different containers can hold. Today

you need to look carefully at the measuring jugs and convert between L and ml.

How much is in each jug?

Golden Rule

1L = 1000ml

Task 3: History - Learning about the Past

There are 2 parts to today’s task.

1). Watch a Horrible Histories episode online (simply google Horrible History full episodes and pick one). You

can choose whichever time or event in history you want! You might want to revisit a subject you

have already studied or learn about a new one – your choice!

*If you don’t have access to the internet, focus on what you remember from one of the topics we have studied

this year: the Maya, the Romans or the Vikings.*

Make notes here about all that you learn.

Chosen Topic: _________________________

2). Create a poster that shares the facts you have learnt about that time in history.

Ideally, we would like this done in Word or Publisher so you can brush up on your organisation

skills. Below is a reminder of how to do the different skills. If an adult is available, they might be

able to talk you through the skills or if you are a whiz then you could even teach them ;-)

Word and Publisher Skills

➢ Change the Font and Colours – avoid fonts where all of the writing is CL.

Choose colours that look right for the topic – not just your favourite ones!

Choose colours and fonts that are easy to read!

*Remember you have to the word before you can change it.

or subheadings stand out – size, bold, underlined, ➢ Make sure your headings

centre

Pictures - Copy and Paste images from the internet to make your poster eye catching.

Right click with the mouse and copy or pressing Ctrl and C. Then Ctrl and V will paste back into your

document.

Use Text Boxes – so you can move facts around

and space out your whole page.

Insert → Text Box

Change the outline and fill of

the text box to make them

stand out.

Click wrap text so that you can

move and resize the picture.

Crop helps you to

cut the picture to

just the bit you

want.

Click on the picture and the Format bar will be at the top

By moving the line in the bottom right hand corner,

you will be able to see your whole page and make

sure there aren’t huge gaps.

Challenge – Please only upload this part to Seesaw

You can either write your sentences here and take a photo to upload to Seesaw or type

them straight onto Seesaw. For an extra challenge, you could record yourself reading

your sentences so that I can hear your wonderful pronunciation!

Write 3 sentences of your own like the ones above, use the items I have listed or you could

find others to talk about.

Task 8: Maths – Sorting Shapes by their Properties

Shapes have lots of different properties, today we are going to look at parallel lines and right angles.

Parallel lines always stay the same distance apart, so they will never cross no matter how long they

go on for.

An angle is where the lines meet and a right angle is when the lines meet at exactly 90⁰.

Right angles can be found on the corner piece of paper and the corner of a book.

Task: Draw a larger version of this Venn diagram and sort the shapes, on the next page, into the

correct places.

Remember, the middle section means the shape has both properties.

There are 2 examples for you:

The videos and activities on these web pages will help you learn more about angles parallel and

perpendicular lines.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zb6tyrd/articles/zg68k7h - Angles

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zb6tyrd/articles/zp327hv - Parallel and Perpendicular lines.

These two lines on this

shape are parallel because

they are the same

distance apart and will

never cross.

These two corners are

right angles (90⁰).

If you don’t have a

protractor you can use the

corner of a piece of paper to

check this!

This polygon has

one set of parallel

lines and two right

angles so it goes in

the middle of the

Venn diagram.

This triangle has a right

angle and no parallel lines

so goes in this section of

the Venn diagram.

21

These are the shapes you need to sort onto your Venn diagram:

Cut them out and stick them on OR draw them with a pencil and ruler.

Remember you can check for right angles using the corner of a piece of paper if you do not have a

protractor at home.

Challenge:

In my example I explained why I put the shapes where I did. Your challenge is to choose 2 or more

shapes and explain why you have put them where you have.

Task 9: PSHE / Art – Hope

Katherine Rundell has put together ‘The Book of Hope’ containing pictures, poems and short stories

by a wide range of authors and illustrators.

Here’s a selection of the pictures of HOPE I really liked.

Here’s the link if you would like

to explore it some more.

https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/9-12/book-hopes/

Your task is create your own picture of HOPE. You can ‘borrow’ ideas from these pictures or come

up with your own! Use pencils, pens, paints, watercolours, collage – whatever you think would be

effective! Please ask your grown-ups to share it on our Yr3&4 Facebook page if you are pleased with

your efforts.

Task 10: Information Pages

You are going to create a fact file, leaflet or poster all about 1 prey animal.

Choose one of the prey animals we watched in the film clip (or another of your choice) to research

Today is a research/ gathering ideas day:

There is lots to think, research and write about, I have grouped the information you might want to talk

about:

OR YOU COULD HAVE ANY OTHER PIECES OF INFORMATION YOU WANT TO!

At the top of each box / section, come up with a suitable subheading. Some could

be questions, some could be statements.

➢ Where does it live?

➢ What is it like there?

➢ Is there a special reason it lives

there?

➢ What does it eat?

➢ What special skills / techniques

does it have?

➢ What does it need / do in order

to survive?

➢ Is it the predator of another

prey animal?

➢ How does it survive?

➢ Is it an endangered species? If

so, what can we do to protect it?

➢ Could you draw a picture and

label the different parts?

➢ Do you know any interesting

facts about it?

➢ Have you ever seen one in real

life?
