One night a father overheard
his son pray:
Dear God, make me
the kind of man my
Daddy is.
Later that night, the father
prayed:
Dear God, make me
the kind of man my
Son wants me to be.

June 19, 2016
Dear Parishioners,
Are you a follower of Jesus? Today’s prophesy of Zechariah is fulfilled in Jesus, who
endured suffering and death on a cross. In our second reading, St. Paul reminds us that
in Baptism we have clothed ourselves in Christ. Baptized into His death, we freely take
up His cross and follow in His footsteps. Our Baptism is fulfilled by this sharing in
Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Are you a follower of Jesus Christ?
Studies have shown that the father of the family has a big influence on the faith of the
children. If fathers are followers of Jesus, their children learn to be self-giving, life-giving
and love-giving people. This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day! Today we honor all
fathers, living and deceased, grandfathers, foster-fathers and father figures who have
cared for us with compassion. As St. Joseph did for Jesus, the very best love of our
earthly fathers is only a glimmer of the magnificent love and mercy of our Heavenly
Father!
St. Joseph was strong in the face of adversity and poverty of his time. He is a model of
the virtues of prudence, humility, strength and fortitude. Even though Joseph is silent in
Scriptures, his actions speak to us more clearly than recorded words. Just as Joseph
resigned his own will to the will of God, so a good father walks the path as God sets out
for him. The greatest gift any father can give to his children is lifelong fidelity to his
Marriage Covenant. Children learn about love through a father’s affection, prayers,
honor, self-control, forgiveness and integrity.
“St. Joseph showed Jesus all the natural love, all the affectionate solicitude that a
father’s heart can know.” - Pope John Paul II
God’s Blessings upon all of our fathers,
Fr. Gabriel
Vocations Corner — June 19, 2016
The Vocations Committee invites you to pray
For Vocations, especially those to Priesthood or Religious Life!
Happy Father’s Day! Fathers are especially called to manifest the love of the Blessed
Trinity in their families and encourage a call to religious life among their children.
In preparation for Fr. Gabriel’s 27th Year of his Ordination to the Holy Priesthood
(June 24, 1988) and to Fr. Hilary, on his upcoming 32nd anniversary of his Ordination
to the Holy Priesthood (August 12, 1982) … We thank you, Father (gratitude for Fr.
Gabriel & Fr. Hilary)
“The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent: Thou art a priest forever according to
the order of Melchizedek.” (Ps. 109:4, Heb. 5:6)
We thank you Father, for all that you have done: for giving us God’s only Son; for all
the Sacrifices that you make; for consecrating the bread we take.
We thank you Father, for the sacraments: Baptism, Communion, and Penance; for
helping us to sanctify our souls’ hunger to satisfy.
We thank you Father, for your obedience, for being our shepherd, for your guidance,
for leading us into green pastures, for lifting our hearts to things unseen.
We thank you Father, for your vocation, for spreading the Gospel to every nation; for
giving your life that we might live, We thank you Father for all that you give.
We thank you Father, for all the ways that you bless our lives. Amidst the world’s
wretchedness for giving your all and nothing less.
We thank you Father, for your guiding light amidst a world in the dark of night, like
Our Lord, for shining bright, for being the King’s trustworthy knight.
We thank you Father, for being there in times of joy, or in despair for your words of
counsel and consolation. We thank you Father, for your vocation.
A very happy Father’s Day to all Dads, and to our Spiritual Fathers, Fr. Gabriel & Fr.
Hilary!
