French explorer named LaSalle claimed a huge area of land
French fur traders moved into the Ohio River Valley land, even
though it wasnt part of LaSalles land claim. These fur traders
traded with Native Americans in the area. SO WHO DID CLAIM THE LAND

British fur traders gradually moved into the Ohio River Valley
land area. These fur traders also traded with Native Americans in
the area, and began to build a better relationship with them than
the French This made the French angry because the British were

The British! The war ended on February 10, 1763 with the Treaty
of Paris. The British took control of the French land in North
America. AND THE WINNER IS

The colonists are happy they have a lot of new land to settle
BUT WAIT! The British issued a proclamation after the war that
stated all of the land west of the Alleghany Mts. Would be left for
the Native Americans This was called the Proclamation of 1763.

PROCLAMATION OF 1763WHY? The British wanted to prevent future
conflicts with the Native Americans, so they kept the land for
them. Colonists were angry they had wanted that land for
themselves.
