On the Cover: Yes, it is an egg, an ostrich egg. Someone has a lot of extra time on their hands...
Our Friendly Rep!Friendly Chevrolet’s representative to the Corvette Club of Texas is Gary Kubiak. When you need to replace your Corvette with a new C6 be sure and give Gary a call at 214-920-1950.
Also don’t forget to contact Gary when you are upgrading the family car for a new one!
In addition to his regular work schedule, Gary is always at the dealership during our monthly Friday night membership meeting. Also, you can e-mail Gary at: [email protected]
Rumors are running around like crazy on the Corvette Forum the last couple weeks. One is that the Corvette SS is about to be announced for the 2008 model year. That is basically a C6 Z06 with a supercharger pushing the power to over 600 hp. If true, and this one is pretty plausible, it is really a little one-ups-man-ship over the new Viper. Word is it will be close to the $100K barrier.
The other rumor, less plausible, is that the C7 will come as early as the 2009-10 model year. That would mean the C6 would only run 5-6 years, the shortest run of any generation. This would have a displacement on demand engine with roughly the same peak power as the current Z06. Also the Corvette engine would become a Corvette only engine. (Sharing the LS2 with Cadillac and Pontiac etc. rankles the true Corvette purist). I don’t see that part of the rumor being true because the economy of scale almost forces GM to share all of its engines as widely as possible. Actually, if I was a betting man, I see the C7 in the 2011-2012 model year.

SEPTEMBER 15, 2006, MEMBERSHIP MEETING
FRIENDLY CHEVROLET, STEMMONS FREEWAY, DALLAS
Mitch Factor called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM. The September Board minutes (taken by Joann) were read and approved. The August business meeting minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter. Mel gave the treasurer’s report.
Joann, the NCCC governor, said that we need to be careful about securing our pop-up canopies because someone was being sued because a canopy blew over and cracked someone’s windshield. She also reported on events in Houston and Austin coming up soon. Joann reported a problem in logging on to the club website today.
Mary Wolter welcomed two visitors, Bud and Sheryl Lyles (friends of Ben and Billie Lofl in).
Activities:
Paul Wolter discussed the “Laps for Charity” at TMS on September 9th -- 45 people attended.
The next Round-up planning meeting will be held at Fuddruckers, Sunday, September 17th at 4:00 PM.
September 16, Cowtown Crusing for Prostate Cure, car show.
October 8th, a tap dance group, some of our members are in, will perform, but they will send out an e-mail with details.
Ken announced that we would plan a trip to Angel Fire for July 4th 2007 next year if we have enough interest in going. It is 650 miles and we drive it in one day and stay about 5 to 6 days with activities planned for each day. About 8 couples showed an interest.
Paulette Wagner conducted the raffl e.
Everyone was invited to caravan to Via Real in Los Colinas, arranged by Joe and Paulette Wagner.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Jeanette Bradley, Secretary

Ever wonder what a C5 is made of? Anyone ever ask you if a Corvette is still made of fi berglass? Well this drawing will answer your questions. (Note: No traditional fi berglass... Although SMC does have a small amount of fi berglass as reenforcement).

C6 Transmitter Re-programming
Each keyless access transmitter is coded to allow onlytransmitters programmed to your vehicle, to work. Ifa transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement canbe purchased and programmed through your GM dealer.Your GM dealer can reprogram your vehicle so lost orstolen transmitters no longer work with your vehicle. Each vehicle can have a maximum of four transmittersmatched to it.To match a new transmitter to your vehicle whenyou have a recognized transmitter (two recognizedtransmitters are required for Canadian owners),do the following:1. The vehicle must be off.2. Have the recognized and new, unrecognizedtransmitters on your person.3. Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the vehiclekey into the key cylinder located above the licenseplate. See Hatch/Trunk on page 2-14 for moreinformation on the key cylinder.4. Open the trunk.5. Turn the key fi ve times within fi ve seconds.6. The DIC will display READY FOR FOB #X, whereX can be 2, 3 or 4.7. Place the new, unrecognized transmitter in theglove box transmitter pocket with the buttonsfacing towards the passenger’s side.8. Once the transmitter is programmed, a beep willsound. The DIC will display READY FOR #X,where X can be 3 or 4, or MAX # FOBS LEARNED.9. Press the ACC button (ignition switch). The Canadian immobilizer standard requires Canadianowners to see their GM dealer for matching newtransmitters when a recognized transmitter is notavailable. United States owners are permitted to matcha new transmitter to their vehicle when a recognizedtransmitter is not available. The procedure will requirethree ten minutes cycles to complete the matchingprocess. Do the following:1. The vehicle must be off.2. Place the new, unrecognized transmitter in theglove box transmitter pocket with the buttonsfacing towards the passenger’s side.3. The DIC message will display OFF-ACCESORYTO LEARN.
7. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).8. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and willcount down to zero, one minute at a time.9. The DIC will display OFF-ACCESSORY TOLEARN again.10. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).11. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and willcount down to zero, one minute at a time.12. The DIC will display OFF-ACCESSORY TOLEARN again.13. Press the ACC button (ignition switch).14. The DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and willcount down to zero, one minute at a time.15. A beep will sound and the DIC will read READYFOR FOB #1. At this time, all previously knowntransmitters have been erased.16. Once the transmitter is recognized andprogrammed, a beep will sound and the DIC willdisplay READY FOR FOB #2.If you have additional transmitters to program, taketransmitter 1 out of the transmitter pocket and placetransmitter 2 in the pocket. This can be done repeatedlyuntil up to four transmitters have be programmed. The DIC will then display MAX # FOBS LEARNED andwill exit the programming mode. When you are done programming transmitters, pressthe ACC button (ignition switch).
Under normal use, the battery in your keyless accesstransmitter should last about three years. You can tell the battery is weak if the transmitter will notwork at the normal range in any location. If you haveto get close to your vehicle before the transmitter works,it is probably time to change the battery.A weak battery may also cause the DIC to displayNO FOBS DETECTED when you try to start the vehicle. Ifthis happens, place the transmitter in the glove boxtransmitter pocket with the buttons facing towards thepassenger’s side. Then, with the vehicle in PARK (P) foran automatic transmission press the break pedal and theSTART button, or if your vehicle has a manualtransmission, press the clutch and the START button.Although this will start the vehicle, it is recommended thatyou replace the transmitter battery as soon as possible. The DIC may display FOB BATTERY LOW.Notice: When replacing the battery, use care notto touch any of the circuitry. Static from yourbody transferred to these surfaces may damagethe transmitter.1. Insert a coin or similar object into the slot on theback of the transmitter and gently pry apart thefront and back.2. Gently pull the battery out of the transmitter.3. Put the new battery in the transmitter, positive (+)side down. Use a battery, type CR2032, orequivalent.4. Reassemble the transmitter. Make sure to put ittogether so water will not get in.5. Test the transmitter.
