SPEAKER/TRAINER BIO

Roy Ling serves as a Managing Director of RL Capital Management, and an Independent Board Director at Vingroup JSC (Vietnam’s largest real estate conglomerate with market cap >US$15 billion).

PriorPrior to RL Capital, Roy spent more than 20 years in investment banking and held senior positions with JPMorgan, Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs and Salomon Smith Barney. His expertise is in Asia real estate, REIT IPOs and capital markets, and he has worked in New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore. During his investment banking career, Roy had originated and executed a broad range of advisory (>US$40 billion) and capital market transactions (>US$20 billion) including some of the most high profile transactions in the region.

RoyRoy was also a former Board Director of the CFA Society of Japan. He was honoured as the Real Estate Executive of the Year by Singapore Business Review in 2016, and as one of 20 Rising Stars in Real Estate by Institutional Investor in 2008.

OVERVIEWAnAn alternative investment or Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) is an investment or fund that invests in asset classes other than stocks, bonds, and cash. Alternative investments are subject to less regulation than traditional asset classes. As such, the risk/ return trade-offs associated with alternative investments differ from those of traditional investments. These differences make analysing and assessing alternative investments more challenging and the likelihood of behavioural biases.

ByBy understanding behavioural biases, participants may be able to improve economic outcomes by moderating the bias or adapting to the bias so that the resulting financial decisions is more likely to match the rational financial decisions assumed by traditional finance. This course combines two different topics in order to help participants make better decisions and diversify portfolios using non-traditional alternative asset classes.
