    Hangar space available

I have two spots availablefor rent in a heated hangarI recently purchased andam finishing renovating. The hangar is located onthe west side of the fieldat 2129 Nevada. It is 52feet wide by 40 feet deepwith a 41 foot wide door. The hangar has a ceilingmounted CoRayVac gas-fired, low-intensity, infrared heating sysIt also has a nice 10 by 11 foot room in the front of the hangar, w

comfy couch, refrigerator, microwave, electric base-board heatinand ceiling vent fan. It has three banks of fluorescent lights over main hangar floor and will have five sets of four foot fluorescentlights over the shop area to the left. The building is well insulatedsealed and I am adding additional insulation in the attic area thisweek. Because of the radiant heat system, the hangar is really nosuitable for larger high wing Cessna aircraft. I will be asking $16per month rent, which includes maintaining a base temperature35 degrees and the electric to provide that. Any additional use oand electric will be paid by the tenant using the heat and electric fwork on their aircraft. A log of such usage will be used to keep trof the prorated cost, based upon a personal honor system. For moinformation please give me, Frank Huber, a call at cell: 763-245-

"Tip of the Month" by Kirk Fjetland

The FAA recently changed the guidance in AIM paragraph 4-1-20 to state:

"Civil and military transponders should be turned to the on or normal altitude reportingposition prior to moving on the airport surface to ensure the aircraft is visible to ATCsurveillance systems."

The reason for this is twofold. The FAA has installed ground radar surveillance systemsat many large air carrier airports. These systems rely on information from the aircraft'stransponder and discrete beacon code to identify the aircraft as it moves on the surface

Controllers in the tower see this information presented as a color display of aircraft andvehicle positions overlaid on a map of the airport's runways/taxiways and approach corridors. The system essentially createa continuously updated map of all airport surface operations that controllers can use to spot potential collisions.

The other reason is that with older radar systems, transponder operation on the ground could cause interference andmultiple targets on the radar display. Modern digital systems can filter out transponders close to the antenna.

Since you may not know whether you are operating at an airport with a ground surveillance system, good operating practiceis to leave the transponder on at all times.

    Dream Home For Sale!

Former EAA Chapter 237 Member Suzanne Logan (nee Stanton)moved to the East Coast and built her dream home at the beautifulDogwood Airpark (VA42). Just off I-95 and a stone's throw from theVRE commuter line, this 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath house has all theamenities...spacious kitchen, large composite deck, hot tub, wholehouse vacuum, and more.

The icing on the cake is a separate 65' x 50' hangar with a Wilsondoor, it's insulated and has its own 15' x 50' apartment.

The neighbors are incredibly friendly, aviation-oriented and the whole thing is just short jaunt from Washington.

She and her husband moved to Texas to accommodate their employers, and now need to find a buyer. She's reached out to all her oldfriends throughout the aviation world, asking us to spread the word.

If you know of anyone who might be interested - or know where you might find someone who'd love a great place like this, contactSuzanne at [email protected]
