India's contribution to Rotary hailedIndia has become the third biggest contributor to theRotary Foundation, only behind US and Japan. ROTARY NEWSGARY C.K. HUANG of theRotary Club of Taipei, Taiwanis nominated as the Presidentof Rotary International for theyear 2014-15 by theNominating Committee.

The Sunshine –Some of the senior Rotarians might recall that they used topick up a one rupee coin, put it in their pocket every timebefore they go out to attend weekly regular meeting onFriday evening. At the Sgt-at-Arms table there used to be asmall wooden box with a slit at its top and members dropthe coin after signing the attendance register. This money was used for some community service projectsthat bring light to the needy persons; it was named‘Sunshine’ collection. The idea behind it is to inculcate theidea of continuous commitment towards service by Rotarianswhich is the slogan of Rotary. Many Rotarians didn’t care topay even that ‘ONE’ rupee regularly and when I was theSgt-at-Arms, I usually remind and insist them to pay.One day Late Rtn. PDG Dr.K.S.N Rao dropped a 10/- note inthe Sunshine box and when I was about to pay him thechange, he blatantly refused and said, “that it is notmandatory to pay only one rupee and you can pay any amountand more over it was meant for community service, so fortoday’s meeting my Sunshine contribution is ten rupees”.Then I realised and since then I started adding money atthe end of the meeting to match the amount equal to thenumber of Rotarians present, which announcing theattendance analysis. To my surprise Rotarians startedcontributing regularly after a few weeks. Some Rotarians contribute a lump sum on the eve ofBirthdays and other celebrations to add to the Sunshine.Later the Sunshine contribution was made mandatory andto avoid embarrassment of asking for a rupee coin in everymeeting, it was collected along with the Annual subscriptionamount to Rs.52/- under “Sunshine Collection”.Though the idea worked good in the sense of collectinggood amount at a time, the essence and basic purpose ofcollection of Sunshine was lost since then. “The Sun keptShining but eventually lost its Warmth with time…..”
