Every church goes through a season of sowing, when its people put seeds in the grownd in hopes of a future harvest. 2011 was such a season for Christ Church. As we talked about money, career and Experiencing God throughout the year, many of us began making major changes in our plans and daily routines. Although the full town harvest of all those things is yet to come, we have already began to experience some amazing first fruits. We wanted to share some of those with you in the following pages.

In November of 2011 Christ Church Latino sent their first missions team to Guatemala. In conjunction with Beyond Words Ministries, an eight person team provided food, clothing, gifts, and the life-giving message of Jesus Christ to over 1,400 kids in Guatemala! The focus of Beyond Words is to put smiles on faces, place provision in hands, and Jesus in the hearts of God's people in South America. The Christ Church team was able put this into practice by ministering in various churches and place gifts in the hands of local children. For many of these kids it was the first new toy they had ever received! The team was also able to provide clothing and funds to victims of a recent earthquake. Pastor Maciuk said, "During our recent trip to Guatemala, we found ourselves continually blessed as we were helping others, and we realized that nothing would have been possible without your help!" Thank you very much for your donations and we invite you to continue your contributions so we can touch even more lives in the years to come!

Your prayers and generosity are the reason these children

were able to smile and say sincerely, "Thank you very

much for blessing me!"

We Did it for Them: Elevate Worship Center

Page 9: Christ Church Year End Book

The Elevate Worship Center is a multi-use space where 7th-12th grade students are free to meet everytime the building is open. The design phase of this project began back in October 2010, plans and budgets were finalized May 2011, and shortly thereafter construction started in June 2011. Over the next few months, we spent time raising funds, working with contractors and rallying volunteers. From the very beginning, this project was volunteer driven. Contractors, painters, laborers and countless volunteers donated their time and skills to drive this project to completion. The Elevate Worship Center would not have been completed without the support of the entire church. Some gave their money and some gave their time. Both aspects helped us complete the Elevate Worship Center paying CASH for everything as we went along. For years and years to come, this beautiful space will be a place where students can bring their friends, worship their creator and have some fun along the way.

2011 brought a great partnership for Christ Church and the people of Japan. From the many trips that Pastor Yasunori Aoki made to Nashville to the 2 trips Christ Church Choir members went over to Japan for. We can definitely say lives were changed and hearts were stirred. God is working in Japan and here is a few testimonials from people who went on the trip. We are so excited for the opportunities that will come in 2012.

Japan: The Healing Has Begun

Page 11: Christ Church Year End Book

Austin: I have never experienced anything like this trip. We are on a mission to love these people through our gifts. The ensemble sang their hearts out and the band worshipped with everything they had. Every minute I am waiting for the Lord to surprise me with something new. Every person I meet has eternal significance. Every song we sing is echoed in the heavens. Every word that proclaims Christ goes forward with power. The Lord is preparing to gather his people in Japan. I am more convinced now than ever that the Lord has brought us here to serve his church. We are being used to open the door to the heart of Japan. It is a door that no man can shut. When that door is flung open, the ministers of the Lord from Japan will go throughout the country with the message of reconciliation and bring the love of God to their people.

Vanessa: I listened as Pastor Yasunori made his plea for us to come and share the Gospel with the Japanese people….they are hurting and they need healing….they need Jesus. Hearing those compelling words and realizing that it is now just a few months later and here we are in Japan, sharing Gospel music and the healing power of Jesus. I cried. We are just ordinary people. We are singing songs in a language most of these people can't even understand, and still the miraculous takes place. God uses us, simple, imperfect, ordi-nary, and wishing we had more to give….and He does the miraculous. The Holy Spirit takes our worship and praise and fills the room. He moves beyond the language barrier and goes straight to the heart, bringing healing and salvation.

Matthew Bergman:A Dedicated Life, An Endowment for the Future

Matthew Bergman was a person who had a huge heart for others, and was always look-ing for ways to help those around him. He was blessed with a photographic memory and a gifting for foreign languages and math. After much encouragement from his father during his junior year of high school, Matt decided on his life plan. He wanted to travel through Europe, work odd jobs, learn languages and about other cultures. His father informed him this was a vacation, not a life plan! It was however that God-given interest and desire to experience other cultures that led Matt to become a linguist with the United States Navy. Following in the steady footsteps of his father, grandfather, uncles, and cousins before him, Matt was very proud to be serving his country as a member of the armed forces. He was focused like a laser beam, desiring to be on the front lines. He hoped to one day assist the Special Forces on their missions as an Arabic interpreter. He was ready and excited to be deployed overseas.

On July 27, two sailors arrived at the home of Joe Bergman to inform him that his son had been reported lost at sea in the Gulf of Aden aboard the USS Boxer. There was an extensive search which proved to be fruitless after several days. Joe had the following to say about his beloved son Matthew, "Matt chased his dreams and lived life to the fullest. I have no regrets. He served, and gave his life for his country. His name, Matthew, means 'gift from God'. He was a gift to me, to others, and his country. Matthew Bergman is my son; I loved him in life and will miss him. I am proud and thankful for his service. “Matt, I will see you again in heaven. God always knew where you were and was with you. You were never lost at sea.”

In honor of Matt and his dedication and sacrifice, an endowment fund has been set up through Christ Church to continue supporting the outreach ministries he was so passionate about.

Leave A Legacy According to the grace of God given to me. like a skilled master builder, I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ.

I Corinthians 3:10-11

Christ Church has begun laying a foundation for future generations through the benevolence of people such as yourself. We have instated an endowment fund with specific focus on worship, outreach, education, and undesignated use. These funds will create a sense of legacy for Christ Church members connecting them with the Church of today and tomorrow. We believe in the future of Christ Church and of building a sense of permanence in what we do. We believe in being good stewards, continuing the heritage we enjoy for future generations, and opening our souls to the presence of God through building a foundation for the future. How do you want to be remembered?

Receiving the Emmy and Eric Scholarship was one of the greatest honors I could imagine. Emmy Scott and Eric Faulk were two beloved members of the community who I knew personally. Both exuded kindness, compassion, and acceptance toward everyone they came in contact with. They passionately desired to serve others locally and internationally. When they tragically died in a car wreck in 2007, their loss was deeply mourned. The scholarship fund originated in their honor, after their death, to recognize students who exemplified Emmy and Eric's legacy of servant-leaership. While of course I am thankful for being able to use the scholarship to lighten my tuition costs, enabling me to attend college at George Washington University, the significance of this scholarship has meant more to me than the money. To be equated, in any way, to the attributes of service and excellence that both Emmy and Eric possessed is an honor and a humbling responsibility.

Throughout my time in college, I have been challenged to live up to their examples in my endeavors, whether in my academics, my dorm-life, the student organizations in which I participate, or community outreaches. I chose to attend college in Washington, D.C. to pursue a career focused on solving global issues. By holding internships with our Senator and Congressman, as well as working for the University on House Staff, as a mentor for other students, I have strived to utilize my gifts to make a positive difference in others' lives. I will be graduating a year early from college, and intend to f ollow my desire to work in conflict resolution after graduation this upcoming May. I am so grateful for the support and encouragement I have received through this scholarship. It has inspired me to be more aware of how my life is affecting others. Thank you for continuing to generously contribute to this scholarship and helping myself, and future students, work towards goals so that we may be a light to others.

In Spring of 2010, my financial life came to a screaming halt. My business, which had been slowing and changing during the previous couple of years, had nearly come to a stop and the contract work I do on the side was minimal. I had outstanding operational bills, plus I also owed money to the State of Tennessee in connection to my business. Taking a sheet of paper from my desk, I listed my bills, totaled them, wrote $6500, circled it and then wrote at the top "Jesus -Things to Do List." I stuck that piece of paper in the drawer of my desk. The next day brought a flood disaster to Nashville. So many needs, so many caring people giving of their time, tons of supplies pouring in from all over the country, so much devastation, so much hope. A Christ Church team of volunteers met to plan the course for the next day. While sitting in that meeting, I received a text from my bank informing me

that my account was at a $0 balance. A minute later . . . another text — my business account was at a $0 balance. Panic! Worry! If I didn't do something THAT DAY, payments would be bouncing. I walked back into the meeting. I'm not even sure what I said. What I do remember clearly is that one of my pre-cious friends left the room and returned with a check for $200, and I cried some more. That was enough to keep the water on and pay the gas bill. As I walked back to my car that day, I stopped in the middle of the parking lot . . . just paralyzed. I had read by Beth Moore just a few weeks earlier. She said, (my paraphrase) "When you are facing a decision or a situation where you don't know what to do, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you completely and then look at your dilemma through His eyes." I prayed right there in that parking lot for the Holy Spirit to fill me completely. I needed

Page 17: Christ Church Year End Book

something supernatural. I needed to see this through His eyes. In that moment, He was there. Throughout the next week there were little miracles every day. I called them "happy handshakes" when people would pass me in the hallway and shake my hand as they gave me cash. Twenty dollars, two-hundred dollars — every time it was just enough to meet the need for that day. I received another helpful check and the following Thursday, a dear friend came by the house to give me $100 and pray with me. I needed $80 that day to pay a bill. On Friday, May 14, God began speaking to a woman and led her to visit my home, with-out knowing why she was coming. She walked into my house and was thankful that I hadn't asked her WHY she was there. As I pre-pared coffee for us, she heard the Holy Spirit tell her, "You are going to give her some

money today." I continue talking. She asked, "How much money Lord?" She heard "$6500." She was seated in the rocking chair and I was at my desk . . . "Vanessa, how much money do you need to pay your bills?" I slid open the desk drawer and picked up the list of "Jesus-Things to do" and said, "Actually, I need $6500." By noon that day, she transferred $8700 into my account. By 5:00, every bill was paid and there was “breathing room” money in the bank. God rescued me that day and changed my life! I have always said that I live my life wholly, fully, completely leaning and trusting in Jesus and Him alone. That confidence in Him was put to the test and I'm so humbled and grate-ful that I can say, He is all that He says He is. I am so grateful ... thank you Jesus!!!
