God’s Blessings and Happy New Year

from the Church of St. William to your home.

On the feast of the Epiphany, which means ‘manifestation,’ it is tradi-tional to ask God’s blessing on our homes. May all who come to our home this year rejoice to find Christ living among us; and may we seek and serve Christ in everyone we meet.

The Epiphany of the Lord

January 6, 2019

FOCUS: The Epiphany points the way toward life.

Today the Church celebrates the Epiphany of the Lord: the manifestation to the Gentiles (in the persons of the Magi) of the life of God himself. God, who in the person of Jesus, shared in our humanity in order to allow us to share in his divinity forever. Like the Magi, each person’s journey to Christ has its own direction and trail; and for each who pays Christ homage and offers the treasures one holds, the reward is the same: a path away from the dangers of sin and death and toward life.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, the prophet Isaiah calls the people to rise up because the light (God) has come and they will praise the Lord with overflowing hearts. In St. Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, we hear that the mystery which was not revealed to other generations has been made known and that all are co-heirs and co-partners in the work and promises of Christ. Today’s Gospel is the account of the Magi who journey far as they seek out the long-awaited Christ, encountering King Herod in Jerusalem along the way, and then finding the child Jesus in Bethlehem.

Give a Helping Hand Currently there are 90 of our parishioners attending St. Cecilia School and Presentation BVM School. Catholic education fosters a sense of community and an abiding understanding of the importance of service to others. With a focus on actively living one’s faith and providing an example of character to others in daily life, Catholic Schools assist students in realizing their own personal gifts. St. William Parish pays a portion of a student’s tuition, but only if they are practicing Catholics. To help offset these costs and assist families who may need additional help with their tuition, we are asking for a ‘Helping Hand.’ If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to support these stu-dents, please contact the rectory at 215-745-1389.

Luncheon Affair with an International Flair Calling all volunteer cooks! Please bring your favorite dish to our celebration following the opening Mass of our Centennial on January 20, 2019. Sign-up sheets are in the back of Church. Food trays will be given out in January for your use and the tray can be delivered by 11:00am on January 20.

Tote Bags Purchase your reusable tote bags for $5 each. Call the recto-ry today. They are not just for groceries. Many, many uses for these bags and we even have suggestions for 34 different uses.

Our Sunday Concert Series Continues Continue the celebration of our Centennial and come hear the sounds of classical guitarist Charles Mokotoff, described by the New York Times as "exceptional among debutantes, a thoughtful, gentlemanly artist, technically fastidious and able to coax a range of sounds from his instrument." His work has been described as "a mix of strong tone, pianistic at times, but also capable of beautiful legato phrasing and a natural feel for forward movement." You won't want to miss it. Freewill offering. Light refresh-ments to follow. All are welcome!
