COME JOIN US IN GREENWICH JUNE 13 AND 14 FOR
THE WHIPPLE CITY FESTIVALGREENWICH - This year, the Whipple City Festival will once again feature living history demonstrations in Dorr Park. On Saturday June 14th there will be four regiments reenacting four different periods in history. The 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment is a group of re-enactors from the Revolutionary War. Cannon will be on display as well as firearms from that period. Musket firings will take place at different times during the day and several campsites will be set for display with re-enactors in period dress. The 125th NY Regiment Association will be representing the Civil War period. This living history group represents a typical military campsite of 1861 and is chartered with the NYS Education Department. Tents and campsites will be set up. This group will have musket firings during the festival and wooden muskets will be available for children to help the re-enactors do musket drills. The 99th In-fantry Division will be representing World War II. A field table, 4-5 puptents, an ammo box as well as WWII weapons will be on display. This year we are also adding WWI to our group of reenactors. They will have a table with memorabilia from that era. Also in Dorr Park will be The Greenwich Town Histo-rian and the Willard Mountain DAR and the Washington Co. Historical Society with information booths and items for sale. The park is still open to having other historical organizations set up info booths. Contact the chamber at [email protected]. HOW TO MAKE FATHERS DAY MORE ENJOYABLE FOR DAD
Dad gets to be king of his castle at least one day during the year. Come mid-June, children near and far scramble for ideas to treat their fathers to a special day and award him with gifts for being a role model, provider and confi dante. Fathers Day
activities should be centered around Dads in-terests. With that in mind, the fol-lowing are some ideas to honor Dad or another special man in your life.
* Sports Sunday: If Dad is a sports fan, his idea of spending a fun-fi lled afternoon very well may be cheering on
his favorite players. Whether your father enjoys golf, tennis, baseball, soccer, or another sport like hunting or fi shing, chances are there is a television broadcast on that you can watch together. Otherwise, you can surprise Dad by purchas-ing tickets to a sporting event and making a day of it at the ballpark.
* Beach bound: A relaxing day at the beach may be the per-fect way to spend Fathers Day. Dad can enjoy the entire family while sitting back in his beach chair and watching the waves roll in. Pack a picnic lunch with his favorite foods and a cold beer, and Dad may just say this was his best celebra-tion yet.
* Adventure seeker: If yours is a father who enjoys living on the edge, a Fathers Day activity built around action and ad-venture should be a winner. Take Dad base jumping, rock climbing, scuba diving, or race car driving. Any of these ac-tivities is bound to get Dads adrenaline pumping.
* R&R: Dads idea of the perfect Fathers Day may be an af-ternoon free of obligations and deadlines. A relaxing day in the yard swimming laps in the pool or hitting a few ground-ers to your waiting baseball mitt may be all the excitement he needs. Toss a few steaks on the grill to give Fathers Day a truly perfect ending.
* Impromptu party: Some dads like to be the center of atten-tion. A Fathers Day party thrown in his honor, complete with friends and family, can be an entertaining way to spend the day. If you are worried about interrupting others Fathers Day plans, host the gathering on the Saturday before Fathers Day and let Dad be the life of the party. Finger foods, barbecue, a limited list of cocktails and other beverages and some back-ground music are all that you need to host a festive function.
Plan a Fathers Day celebration with your dad in mind. Cater to his favorite activities and opt for entertainment that he will enjoy.
Fathers Day may be best spent taking in a sporting event, especially if Dad is a big sports fan.
DID YOU KNOW?According to the 2013-14 PayScale Salary Survey, which examines salary data for full-time employees in the United States who possess only bachelors degrees but no higher degree, petroleum engineering is the most lucrative major with regard to salary potential. Petroleum engineers earned an average annual starting salary of $103,000, and those salaries ballooned to $160,000 by mid-career, when typical graduates in the study had 15 years of experience in their fi elds. Though engineering majors dominated the surveys top 10, second place on the list went to actuarial mathemat-ics majors, whose average starting salaries of $58,700 were more modest than those of petroleum engineers. However, by mid-career actual mathematics majors closed much of that gap, with average salaries hovering at $120,000.

lid frequently and adjust the cooking temperature ac-cordingly. This may require turning one or two burners off and cooking indirectly.
To prepare the sauce: Com-bine all ingredients in a saucepan and set aside until the ribs are ready to remove from the foil. Gently heat the sauce on the side burner for 10 to 15 minutes before us-ing.
Carefully remove the ribs from the foil and place on grids. Baste generously with sauce, and grill for 10 min-utes per side, leaving the lid open, turning several times, and basting with sauce after each turn.
Heat remaining sauce to a boil and then allow it to simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Serve on the side as a dip-ping sauce.

Many college students rec-ognize the value of intern-ships. Internships can help college students start build-ing their resumes before they even earn their de-grees, and those experienc-es can give them an edge in a competitive postgraduate job market.
Landing internships gives students some fi rsthand ex-perience within a given pro-fession, and that exposure can help them decide if a projected career path is right for them or if its good to go back to the drawing board. The following are a few tips to help college students land an internship and make the most of the opportunity.
* Dont hesitate. Though many internships are tai-lored to students with a year or two of college under their belt, that doesnt mean freshman cant begin to ex-plore potential opportuni-ties. Even if you dont intend to get an internship in the coming school year or dur-ing summer break, you can begin to explore potential opportunities that might interest you when the time to start seeking internships does arrive. Looking early may yield valuable informa-tion, such as courses that would improve your chances of landing an internship, that your fellow students who hesitate or procrastinate wont have.
* Speak with the career placement specialists at your school. Career placement
Fathers Day has been cel-ebrated in one form or an-other since the beginning of the nineteenth century. Per-haps the most driving force behind Fathers Day was Se-nora Dodd, who thought of the idea of a day to honor fathers while listening to a Mothers Day sermon in 1909. Having been raised by her father, Dodd wanted to honor the sacrifi ces that fathers make. Fathers Day was not formally considered a holiday until 1972, when a Congressional Act offi cially designated the third Sunday in June Fathers Day.
Families celebrate Fathers Day in many ways. This year Fathers Day falls on Sun-day, June 15. Dads who are history buff s may want to celebrate this years holiday by reminiscing about the
notable events that have oc-curred on June 15 through the years. Here are just some of the many historical events that took place on June 15.
* 1752: Ben Franklin per-forms his famous kite-fl ying experiment to test the elec-trical power of lightning.
* 1775: George Washington is appointed Commander in Chief of the American Army.
* 1878: The fi rst attempt at a motion picture takes place. Twelve cameras, each taking one picture, focus on horses hooves to see if they will leave the ground.
* 1887: The New York Giants baseball team beats the Phil-adelphia Phillies 29 -1.
* 1916: The Boy Scouts of America receives its con-gressional charter.
* 1918: An inch of snow falls
in northern Pennsylvania.
* 1924: Native Americans are proclaimed U.S. citizens.
* 1934: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is dedicated.
* 1940: France surrenders to German forces as Nazi troops occupy the city of Paris.
* 1968: John Lennon and Yoko Ono plant an acorn at Coventry Cathedral.
* 1977: General elections are held in Spain for the fi rst time since 1936.
* 1985: The Russian space probe Vega 2 lands on Ve-nus.
* 1992: Vice President Dan Quayle famously misspells the word potato at a spell-ing bee.
* 2002: An asteroid misses hitting Earth by 75,000 miles.
* 2003: The San Antonio Spurs defeat the New Jersey Nets to win the NBA Cham-pionship.
* 2012: President Barack Obama indicates the United States will stop deporting some illegal immigrants.
* 2013: An estimated 40,000 residents of Piedra Negras, Mexico, are devastated by fl ooding.
departments at colleges and universities are an increas-ingly valuable resource for todays college students, many of whom will graduate and face an uncertain and crowded job market. But career placement depart-ments are not just a resource for grads. Such departments can be valuable tools for cur-rent students interested in landing internships. If you dont know where to be-gin your internship search or simply want to see if any opportunities have opened up, speak with representa-tives at the career placement department at your school. Look the part on such visits, dressing nicely and bringing a resume. Doing so might just separate you from your fellow students, and that can only help as you begin your search for an internship.
* Ask around among friends and family members. Some-times you need a little help to land a good internship,
so dont be afraid to ask your friends and family members if theyre aware of any op-portunities. Adult relatives might be aware of internship opportunities at their com-panies before the general public, and theres no shame in seeking help as you try to take the fi rst step toward a rewarding career. In addition to friends and family mem-bers, inquire about your col-lege or universitys alumni network. Many alumni look to hire students from their universities for internships or even entry-level positions, so make the most of this po-tentially valuable resource.
