21ST ANNUAL PEACE CAMP PROGRAMCLIFTON PARK – CAPTAIN is pleased to announce the 21st annual Peace Camp program for youth entering grades 1–6 in the Shenendehowa School District. (CDHA.NET) is an all-volunteer, no-kill animal rescue group that has been saving animals of all kinds throughout the cap-ital region and beyond since 1988. Our goal is to place each animal in our program in a wonderful home where it will be treated like a valued member of the family. We re-home dogs with no charge for surrender. Since CDHA is a rescue group and doesn’t have a facility of its own, all its dogs are in foster homes and dogs are showcased at pet adoption clinics held three times each month.

FREE EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

(EMT) COURSE TO COMBAT VETERANS

CLIFTON PARK – Clifton Park & Halfmoon Emergency Corps. (CPHM EMS) is off ering a free EMT course, certifi cation and professional development for combat veterans. They will be hosting two open house, in-formative sessions about the program; on Wednesday, July 15th from 6pm-9pm and on Sunday, July 19th from 10am-2pm. The EMT course will begin in September of this year. This EMT course will be completely free to military combat veterans and will be taught by several CPHM EMS paramed-ics, who are also military veterans themselves. CPHM EMS will provide this course at their facility located at 15 Crossing Blvd. in Clifton Park and the curriculum will mirror that of the Saratoga County Emergency Medical Services Council. The class will meet twice a week for 6 months. The CPHM EMS Combat Veteran EMT course will also include professional de-velopment, post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) resource referrals as well as career counseling. It is the ultimate aim of the instructors to prepare these students for every aspect of a career in emergency medicine while also enhancing their personal growth. In order to participate in the program, ap-plicants must have served in a military combat zone, as well as attend one of the July information session and submit an application with an accompanying DD-214 form. Both July information sessions are open house meet-and-greet for-mats. Interested applicants will have an opportunity to learn more about a career in EMS, meet instructors and complete the application process. Susan Voso Lab, costume and textile histo-rian, will help date “mystery photos” in family history collections by analyzing the clothing worn in the pic-tures. Susan was associate professor in the School of Art at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She is an expert on the identification and preservation of cloth-ing and has taught courses on the management of mu-seum collections. LIBRARY TRUSTEE CANDIDATES SOUGHT FOR 2016

CLIFTON PARK – The Board of Trustees of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library are seeking candidates for four library trustee positions that expire on December 31, 2015. The four trustee positions represent Clifton Park. In order to qualify, candidates are required to be registered voters resid-ing in the town of Clifton Park. Employees of the Library, con-tractors and vendors to the Library are ineligible. Residents will vote for the trustees as part of the annual Library Budget vote scheduled for September 17. Two positions are four-year terms, and two are five-year terms, to be determined by the number of votes for each candidate. Interested individuals can obtain a nominating petition at the Ask-A-Librarian Desk. Candidates must collect the required number of signatures as indicated on the petition. All petition signatures must be registered voters, residing in Clifton Park. THE JOYFUL NOISE, “WE ARE ONE”

CAPITAL DISTRICT – The Joyful Noise was a contemporary Christian music ministry well known in the Capital District re-gion and beyond, during the years of 1969-1993. The Joyful Noise was a large group of young people, led spiritually and musically by Mr. Bill Womer. The Joyful Noise was the core of what would later evolve into “Christian Music Ministries”. The positive side of social media, as well as the unfortunate pass-ing of key members, has stirred interest in a reunion of The Joyful Noise, with the recognition, that still, “We are One”. A reunion is planned for October 10, 2015 focused on reunit-ing and catching up. The reunion will culminate with a bar-beque dinner and an evening Praise and Worship service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Many of the songs spanning three decades when young lives were forever impacted by this experience will be sung together again. We will also be including all the parents and family members in the Satur-day night service who supported each of us during our “JN” years. During these early planning stages we are interested in help locating former members, and identifying folks to assist on various committees that have been formed. SARATOGA COUNTY – The 174th Saratoga County Fair invites Saratoga County Schools each year to display their art, science and social exhibits at the fair from July 21-26, 2015. Students also enter projects on their own. Three School Districts with the best displays win awards of a fi rst prize TV & DVD combination, second and third prizes one TV and one DVD; four out-standing student entries receive a cash prize. There are ten honorable mentions for art and ten honorable mentions for Social/Science, which will also receive awards. Everyone will re-ceive a ribbon. Categories are: Art, Social Studies/Science, Photography, Graphic Arts & Group Projects. For judging purposes, there will be two age groups; grades K-6 and grades 7-12. Sue Leahey, Kim Leahey & Joan Joyner, Education Superintendents, believe that the young citizens of Saratoga County are an important part of the community and should have the opportunity to share their school projects with the many thousands of people attending the fair. This year, Education will have “craft time” every day at 5pm so come and join the fun. Buyers, on the other hand, catch a break in December when even New York owners are apparently so demoralized by the cold that they're willing to part with their homes for 2.8 percent less during the second week of the month.

"You shouldn't list your house for sale before March Mad-ness or after the Masters (in April)," says Rascoff.

* Your real estate agent's gender matters. Women, because they're "more willing to negotiate," tend to close deals faster, research suggests. But sellers take note: If you can hold out, men -- stubborn devils that they are -- are often better at get-ting the original asking price.

* A new roof is a sure-fire way to boost a home's resale val-ue. Forget kitchen remodeling. "You could spend a fortune, and it still might not suit prospective buyers' tastes," explains Patsy O'Neill, a sales associate with Sotheby's in Montclair, New Jersey.

Replacing an unsightly roof with a spiffy new one -- better for that all-important "curb appeal" -- was one of the very few projects singled out in Remodeling magazine's new annual Cost vs. Value Report for 2015, rising a chart-topping 5.9 per-cent over even last year's double-digit increase.

In fact, says O'Neill -- and, sellers, pay close attention to the psychology here -- if your current roof really is an eyesore, buyers will be "predisposed" to find a zillion other things they hate about your place. Getting a foot in the door in your desired field is not always easy, but young women looking to land that first job out of college can con-sider the following tips to help them take that all-important first step toward a rewarding career.

Choose what it is that you want to do and who you hope to do it for, and then you can proceed with a more refined search that does not include you spending time pur-suing positions you don’t want.

•Don’tbeafraidtoseekadvice.Onceyoudeterminesomecompanies you may want to work for, don’t be afraid to seek advice from people who already work for those companies. Even if such businesses don’t have any current openings, you might be able to schedule informational meetings. Treat such meetings like you would a job interview, asking questions about the industry and what you can do to get your foot in the door. Once such meetings have concluded, send a hand-written thank-you note to the person who took time out of their day to give you the informational meeting.

• Learn from each job interview. Many people, especiallyyoung people just starting out, go through many job inter-views before finally landing a job. Each interview is not just

an opportunity to land a job or hone your interviewing skills, but also a chance to learn what employers are looking for. Many interviews for entry-level jobs are similar regardless of the industry, so make note of your responses that went over well and those that might need a little more work.

But you might be able to volunteer or even pursue an internship if you only re-cently graduated from college. Volunteering or accepting an unpaid internship is a great way to start making some con-tacts and gaining some legitimate experience, and working for free might just indicate to prospective employers that you are serious about pursuing a particular career and not just landing a job.
