Light in the Optical HutchSeptember 2005

Light at the entrance to the white beam slits (42 m).The rectangular “glow” comes from the light produced by the in-vacuum small-gap undulator. The gap was at 8.0 mm and the ring current 10 mA. The screen is a CVD-deposited diamond foil doped with nitrogen atoms. Small round spot from a visible BM light. After the FE valve was opened!

November 2005

Monochromatic light, just downstream of the DCM (45 m).

Issues

• Not sufficient, not complete or wrong info from vendors (motors, gearboxes)

• Poor design of some components, no reference switch (crystal bender, yaw)

• Malfunction equipment equipment that cannot be tested without the light (SESO XBPM, BPM)

• Installation of optics without functional control system• Implementing physical units• Problems with saving the “final” motors’ parameters• Not implemented feedbacks from encoders• Noise from “high current” motors• Lack of man power to finish “control” of the end-station

before the first light (high current motor drivers)

To Do• CCD holder (2)• Testing of shutter/omega synchronization• Data acquisition (collect tab)• MOSTAB (pitch of the second crystal)• SGU – DCM “calibration”• Stability of the beam (electron & X-ray BPM)• Fluorescence scan, Roentec MCA, Chooch, MAD• Save-restore• Automatic beamline alignment • Final GUI• Automounter• Remote access
