RE-INTRODUCING: THE COMMUNION ANTIPHON The communion antiphon is a prayer (psalm or bible verse) that is sung right after the priest’s reception of communion. If there is no music at Mass (at Newman this would be the Daily Mass) then it should be the practice of laypeople to read the antiphon. I encourage you to participate in the reading aloud of this prayer which can be found in the missal under Daily Mass Prop- ers. Turn to the date of the Mass of which you are in attendance and after the Responsorial Psalm you will find the Communion Anti- phon. The antiphon should be read out loud as the priest drinks the blood of Christ. This practice flows from the liturgical renewal of Vatican II and its emphasis on full participation in the Mass by the faithful. Please see me if you have any questions. Fr. Doug 50/50 RAFFLE! PASSION PORTRAYAL NOTICE Students are giving a live portrayal of the Passion of Christ during the 10:30 am and 7:00 pm Masses on Palm Sunday, April 1 (next week). While this is an engaging way to witness the Gospel of Mark, there will be some images which may be slightly graphic and potentially disturbing to very young chil-dren. They and their parents/guardians are welcome to step out during the Passion portrayal. It is fine to enter the Burke Lounge, even when class is in session during the 10:30 am Mass. Questions? Please see Mark Callahan or David Rondina.
