Magpie Alert

As the weather warms up, there has been a report of magpies starting to defend their young. This tends to become worse where people throw items at the birds.

When riding bicycles, cable ties poking up from a bicycle helmet can deter the magpies from making contact with the head of riders. Remember that children are not permitted to ride a bicycle to school without a helmet.

Stage 3 Excursion

Over thirty students and three staff set off early this morning for a four-day and three-night excursion to Canberra. This trip has been planned to complement a study of government and democracy. Along the way the students will experience a range of art and science activities.

Students remaining at school will be involved in a range of activities similar to many experienced on the excursion. Stage 3 will be visiting an art show at St Joseph’s on Thursday. There will be some “Questacon” moments occurring at school as well.

Stage 1 Excursion

All students in Years 1 and 2 will be visiting the local Post Office this week to learn more about the sorting and delivery of mail. Students in 2P walked to the Post Office today. Children in 2O will be visiting tomorrow, and Year 1 classes on Thursday.

Visitors from Penrith

This Wednesday morning, sixteen of our primary students will be involved in a workshop with members of the cast of “This Girl Laughs . . .” developing their drama skills.

We encourage all of our primary students to attend the performances during the day. The cost of $3 per student has been subsidised by the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation (VFFF).

Assembly

The last assembly for the term is to be held this Friday. The infants music group will be performing. Parents and community are warmly invited to attend.

Happy Holidays

As we draw close to the end of term, we would like to wish all a safe and relaxing holiday. Students, teachers and support staff have worked very hard during Term 3 and are deserving of a holiday.

All students return to school on Monday, 8th October. Many of our support staff will be involved in industrial action on that day, so won’t be supporting students in classes or available in the front office. If your child is reliant upon additional support, please consider this before sending them to school on the first day back. All other students are expected to attend.

Staff development days will be held at the end of Term 4. The last day of next term for students is Wednesday, 19th December. Staff will be involved in training for a further two days.

If you are not able to help on your rostered day it would be very much appreciated if you could contact one of the other volunteers to maybe swap or

replace your shift especially if you are on a Thursday as it is a busy day. If you thought that you may have volunteered but have not been put on the roster, please contact Kathy Parnaby 0427 952 629.

As you are aware, the canteen had to close for two days recently as Kathy was away due to family reasons and no other committee members were available. The canteen is desperate for volunteers to work. It cannot be done by one person every day. Please call in and see Kathy and volunteer. It is not essential that you serve the children if you are not confident doing this. Just helping prepare the food and orders would be a great help.

Active After School Sports is finished for this Term.

A new fairytale by one of Australia’s most exciting playwrights is coming to Condobolin this

September. The show has been especially made for children aged 6 and above and has left critics

singing its praises ever since it opened in Western Australia in July:

4 ½ stars out of 5. This Girl Laughs… follows in the best tradition of fairtales through the ages – an

engagingly told yarn for the children of today. Arts Hub

The play is definitely worth seeing. Professional, challenging and laugh out loud funny too. BIG Kids

Magazine

Educationally, the play helps children to understand how storytelling works and how a narrative can be

presented in both visual and spoken form. Children will also have the opportunity to ask the actors and

creative team questions after the show, to help them understand more about how making a production

works and the craft of acting.

Spelling Bee at Dubbo West Public School

Times Table Challenge Primary Students at Condobolin Public School have been busy learning their times tables.

Now, students in Years 3 to 6 have taken the important maths skill to the next level, playing

off against each other in a Times Table Challenge Knockout.

With all students involved, the championship was narrowed down to four students in each

grade.

Parents and visitors watched the finals in the Primary School Hall.

The winners were (in order from first to fourth place):

Year 3 - Caitlin Keen, Brooklyn Maloney, Anika Wrigley and Zachary Manwaring.

Year 4 - Jarryd Walmsley, Laura Waller, Lily Waller and Kimhilda Dargin.

Year 5 - Jeremy Heinrich, Felicity Baxter, Aidan Matheson and Meg Walton.

Year 6 - Maddi Waller, Chloe Powell, Brooke Powell and Michael Parker.

contest and was pleased with her result.

The school and families were extremely

proud of the results. These are terrific

for Condobolin Public School. Mr Kemp.

Jackson Keeley and Maddi Waller recently travelled to Dubbo to compete

in the Regional Spelling Bee. With some tough competition and words,

Jackson and Maddi did Condobolin proud. Jackson came second in the

Year 3/4 contest and was awarded a dictionary and digital spell checker

(which he won’t need anyway). ‘The competition was tough. I had to have

a spell off to find the eventual winner. I was over the moon with the
