  • EXT. BEACH-DAY

    We see a crowded beach. There are sounds of seabirds andpeople having a nice time

    TITLE: FREEPORT, TEXAS. August 2, 1999

    On the horizon we see a speadboat speeding.

    We see the speeding boat up close now and then we CUT to aman (30s) sleeping on the seats on the bow of the ship. Thisis KARL TAMOWSKI.

    The boat stops. KARL almost falls out of his seat.

    KARL(looking up)

    Were out?

    The captain of the boat, a black, also 30-ish guy (BLACKSAMPSON) nods.

    KARL turns and lifts the seat he was laying on.

    He pulls out a naked man with a bag over his head and throwshim on the floor. The man is hogtied. The man desperatelytries to escape.

    KARL holds him still.

    KARLDont bother, buddy! Stay cool!

    We see SAMPSON has pulled a knife.

    We now see a visual as to how grand and massive the sea is.

    CUT TO:

    EXT. THE OCEAN FLOOR-DAY

    Looking up, we see a body thrown off the boat.

    We watch as it comes down.

    EXT. MARINA

    We see KARL and SAMPSON outside the marina and we see thebig warehouse that has a mural painted on.

    Credits should be shown here.

    EXT. STREET-SUNDOWN

    A busy street. Focusing on a car in which we see KARL andSAMPSON are riding in.

    We turn to see the zipping cars until we see CHARLIEFANDANGO going in the opposite lane.

    CHARLIE is a college aged asian boy on his scooter hedelivers Chinese food with.

    The scooter reads: "Mr. Ducks Chinese Cuisine"

    INT. SOME HOUSE-NIGHT

    We see the transaction of the food CHARLIE is delivering. Wethen cut to the receipt, which shows the date being July 14,1999.

    EXT. TEXAS DESERT-DAY

    We hear desert noises. We see the barrenness and vastness ofthe land.

    We focus on the boots of the desperado (DARREN FLEETWOOD),and we then get a full body shot, where we see he is aiminga rifle.

    Focus on an armadillo on the floor of the desert walking by.In the distance we see the DARREN FLEETWOOD, aiming hisrifle. He shoots. We get a real feel of the impact of theshot.

    Some blood residue on the screen would be cool.

    EXT. SIDEWALK-DAY

    We see a stray small dog sitting on the grass next to thesidewalk. The dog has NO COLLAR A car stops next to it. KARLgets out and takes the dog.

    INT. OPTOMETRIST OFFICE

    We see MURRAY FLEETWOOD and his son CLIFF sitting in thedoctors office. The son is laying back in the patientschair.

    We see from what would be CLIFFS view. We see a whitedoctor around 60 (KARL TAMOWSKIS DAD, WARREN TAMOWSKI).

    The doctor is holding eyedrops

    The doctor is slightly European

    As he drops them in, the vision gets more and more blurry.

    DR. WOkay... its gonna sting...keep onblinking, it helps... okay, good!

    We see a shot of the doctors office, showing it all.

    DR. WThe waiting rooms right there.Itll be about 25 minutes for hiseyes to dilate, Ill see you then.

    They leave the room.

    We see the exact shot but with them in the room.

    CLIFF is rubbing his eyes

    DR. WWell, the problem is purelymuscular. He keeps on wearin thecheaters and by the time highschool comes around

    Claps

    DR. WGlasses be gone!

    MURRAYOkay great.

    DR. WAll right. Well... youre check-up,Murray, its in...two weeks?Correct?

    EXT. APARTMENT BLOCK- DAY

    Its a very ghetto block

    We see a car pull up.

    Music fills the air from some of the residents of the hoodsboomboxes.

    We see CHARLIE and 2 other goons enter

    We follow them into a very ghetto apartment building.

    CUT TO:

    INT. APARTMENT BUILDING

    They are rushing up the stairs. Very tense type stuff.

    They reach the third floor and they run down the hall. Theybreak the low quality door down. We follow them into theroom.

    As soon as they enter on of the goons hits the floor

    GOON #1OH SHIT!

    The other runs to the wall adjacent to the door and holdshimself up as he vomits.

    We follow CHARLIE around the corner and see a black guyJOHNNY SIMPSON hanging from the roof. Hes killed himself.Did it a few days prior.

    INT. A GROCERY

    This next scene should be a tracking shot.

    We see KARL paying for some cigarettes.

    We follow him as he reaches for a board with flyers on itnear the exit.

    He pulls off one for a lost dog.

    The poster has one main picture in the middle and 3 smalleralong the bottom. They all seem to have been tacken at thesame time in the same room.

    KARL flips the bookbag around.

    He unzips.

    We see him compare the flyer with the dog. They sorta looksimilar. KARL shrugs.

    He shoves the dogs head back into the bookbag and puts itback on his back.

    We follow him to the parking lot while he reads the flyer.

    We see him put it in his pocket.

    He also pulls out a napkin with some writing on it. Looksup, and spots a car.

    He pulls out a cigarette, lights it.

    We watch him approach a car but we do not see him put in thekey. We are on the other side of the car maybe. This is sortof important.

    We then come to the side of the door he is on and we enterthe car with him.

    He begins driving.

    Hes listening to the radio.

    We hear a ring

    We dont hear whats on the other end.

    KARLHey Sampson, whats up...yeah youcomin...Alright, I gotta go...Seeyou there. He hangs up

    We see him pull into a dirty looking car lot.

    He gets out and we see a fat man approaching him.

    FAT MAN(pulling out wallet)

    Hey Karl, any trouble?

    KARLNope, no. Just like you said. Noalarm, found it near the Walmart,like you said.

    FAT MANYeah...all right good work.

    FAT MAN gives KARL the money.

    INT. A BACKROOM OFFICE

    A 40-ish Asian man (TANG FANDANGO) is sitting at the desk.Hes sweaty. Listening to CHARLIE. TANG looks pissed.

    CHARLIEWe didnt fucking kill him! We gotthere, hed killed himself! Hedbeen dead for days, probably!

    TANGHe wasjust hanging there?! Doesnthe have neighbors?! They couldntsmell the goddamn rotting corpsenext door?

    CHARLIENobodys in those shit holes halfthe time. Who the hell would wannabe?

    TANGI sent those other sons of bitchesthere a week ago! Have you seenDavey or Ringo at all?

    CHARLIENo. As a matter of fact, Ringo, hewas supposed to meet me and Nick D.at Raouls on Sunday. Yeah he nevershowed.

    TANGWhat, was this like a businessthing?

    INT. KARLS HOUSE

    SHELBY, KARLS girlfriend, is sitting in the kitchen withtheir 3 year old son, RUSS.

    Shes examining RUSSS sneakers.

    SHELBYKarl! Russ needs some new shoes.

    KARLWhats wrong with the ones hes got?

    We see the shoe up close. Its all raggedy and worn.

    INT. BURGER KING PLAYGROUND.

    We see KARL tell RUSS to go play in the giant fun thing.

    While RUSS is gone KARL looks around. There are some moreparents but nobodys paying attention.

    We see him look at the place where the kids take off theirshoes. We see him take some that match the size. He putsthem in his jacket.He sits down and continues eating the meal he was eating.

    INT. HOUSE OF DENNIS

    Eating dinner is WARREN, LAYLA (WARRENs wife), DENNIS, (hisbrother, and MINNIE (bros wife.) They are all there, a bitdrunkish.

    DENNISSo I got this dealer pressed upagainst the swingset and the guylets out some sort of ritual matingcall or something

    They laugh

    DENNISAnd then this other one comes fromlike behind a tree or something andgrabs my fucking gun! So I go tochase down the guy and once I got ahold of him, Murray, guess who itwas?

    MURRAYWho?

    DENNISKennedy Winfell! That kid me andyou used to babysit, remember?

    MURRAYShit man. Taking after his dad, Iguess.

    DENNISGuess so... Remember what Darrenused to do to that kids brother,whats-his-face... Franklin?

    We hear music from outside. From what it seems like 2seperate sources

    DENNISJesus, are there 2 parties goingon?

    LAYLAGuess so...

    MURRAY stand up and walks to the door to look and we followhim and then he stays in the doorframe and we go into thestreet

    EXT. STREET-NIGHT

    We go down the street.

    We see SAMPSON open the door to the house where the party isat.

    We go in with him.

    INT. RANDOM HOUSE

    KARL is sitting on a couch with some buddies

    KARLSampson! Whats up...hey man...yougot the...

    SAMPSONYeah Karl, you goddamn junkie. Justlike you asked.

    He lifts up a little back with some coke in it.

    We go through the house. We see partying and guests aroundKARLs age. We a few in the backyard. We go over the fenceand we see a man next door open a sliding glass window. Heis smoking. We go into his quiet house. We exit when hiswife opens the front door, we exit.

    EXT. THE STREET

    We near the FANDANGO household. We enter through theirbackyard.

    EXT. THE FANDANGO BACKYARD

    They have a stereo playing music. Theyre eating outside.The song sort of quiets down TANG is bringing CHARLIEoutside showing him where everyone else is. Family andfriends say hey as he comes out.

    ALEXI thought you couldnt make it.

    CHARLIEYeah well...Im not working thereanymore. I quit.

    CHARLIE looks at TANG. TANG smiles at him.

    INT. RANDOM HOUSE

    We see and under the glass table view of KARL doing some ofthe coke that SAMPSON brought. KARL raises his head

    SAMPSONGood shit, huh?

    KARLYeah man, fucking great.

    KARLS phone buzzes. Camera follows him to the bathroom. Wedont hear what MOM says.

    KARL HHey Mom, how youdoing...Johnny!?...Wait, how- Ohfuck...

    We see him fall onto the toilet and he starts sobbing andlets out a scream that we dont hear because of the music,which is now all we hear.

    INT. FANDANGO HOUSE

    TANG and CHARLIE are sitting in separate chairs drinking

    TANGSo you thought about what I said?

    We hear SAMPSON yelping outside. No one pays any mind tohim.

    CHARLIEYeah. I figured that at Mr. Ducks,yknow, Im making minimum wage,right. It was an okay job, but... Ithought about what you said.(chuckles)

    TANGYeah thats good man... good. Whatabout school?

    CHARLIEI cant quit school. I mean, to behonest man, this thing you gotgoing is a good job and all... butI need a profession.

    TANGAnd what, exactly, was it thatyoure studying again? Whatprofession?

    CHARLIEBusiness. Come on man, you knowthat.

    TANGExactly! Business! You read thatfreakonomics book thing? Theres anentire section about how even acrack gang has a set-in-stonebusiness. I wasnt expecting you toquit school. Get your degree, andonce you do, come work with us!

    INT. FUNERAL HOME

    It is JOHNNYS wake.

    We see the crowd of relatives and friends mingling, crying,praying at the casket.

    We see KARL comfort SAMPSON

    INT. KARLS HOUSE

    House is kind of a mess

    We see KARL looking at the poster of the dog and thendrawing on the unique black spots that the dog is missingwith a sharpie.

    We see KARL and SHELBY sitting on the couch watching tv.Hes eating cereal. Dog is on KARLS lap.

    KARLWhich do you prefer, Coco Puffs orKrispies?

    SHELBYWithout a doubt Krispies.

    KARLMe too. Easier to eat.

    SHELBYAnd funner.

    They laugh

    KARLThis dogs got like a 2000 dollarbounty on its head.

    SHELBYYeah I saw the poster... you surethats the same one?

    KARLDoesnt really matter. The pictureson the poster have no collar andthe thing is young enough that thelosers are probably counting on theflyer to identify it. I mean, lookat these pictures, all taken at thesame time in the same room. Looksas if they just got it. If I matchthe determinable marks that are onthe dog, which I have already takencare of, were 2000 bucks richer.

    TOM looks at the poster

    KARLAccording to this, it, or herather, goes by... Tom.

    INT. FLEETWOOD HOME

    A very nice house. We see a view of his door. We see it fromthe living room. We hear a knock.

    We now see the exact same shot but with KARL, MURRAY, andTOM present.

    MURRAY is sort of goofy and dumb.

    TOMS on KARLS lap.

    KARLYeah. Walking home from work and Isee him on the grass by the

    MURRAY picks him up. MURRAY examines.

    MURRAYThats Tom alright!

    KARL exhales.

    KARLYou better get a collar for thatguy. Almost didnt recognize him.Good thing Id just left Walmart,thats where I saw the flyer.

    MURRAYOh, you work at Walmart? Yknow mynephew, he stocks shelves, I think.

    KARL(first confused, thenpanicked)

    MURRAY kneels down, opens the pantry and lifts up the bottompanel, revealing a ton of cash.

    KARL pays his attention towards the money.

    MURRAYSo lets settle at... 2250?

    KARL looks around. Suprised by the lavishness of the estate.

    We see money being plopped down in KARLs pasty white hands

    KARLWell its been a pleasure doingbusiness with you, Murray!

    INT. BUBBA GUMP

    KARL and SAMPSON and another friend, DONALD are eating.

    The restaurant is semi crowded

    The way they are talking they would not be easily heard byothers in the restaurant

    KARL(looking around)

    Ive never seen Forrest Gump.

    SAMPSONYeah Its alright, except the oneblack guy is a fucking mongoloid.

    EXT. THE FLEETWOOD HOUSE-DAY

    It is slightly drizzling.

    We see KARL and SAMPSON standing outside the door, we seetheyre putting on masks. Theyre looking around and theysee the coast is clear.

    We see SAMPSON kicking the door

    CUT TO:

    KARL and SAMPSON both sprinting away from the house.

    It is now raining harder.

    We hear the fading security alarm of the house.

    SAMPSONAN ALARM! A GODDAMN ALARM! ARE YOUFUCKING KIDDING ME , KARL!

    KARLI DONT KNOW! SORRY!

    SAMPSONAND YOU SAID NO ONE WOULD BE HERE!

    We see, in the distance, MURRAY exiting his house, staringdown the road, he is on the phone.

    KARL almost slips but he doesnt take too much of a fall

    KARLWELL, ITS A FUCKING SNOW DAY,THAN! WELL THERES NO WAY HEFUCKING SAW US IS THERE?!

    SAMPSONYEAH, NO WAY

    INT. THE FLEETWOOD HOUSE

    We see the door busted open

    Police are there.

    MURRAYI cant say. I didnt see any ofthem. They had these masks.

    Officers nod.

    Theyre with some buddies.

    We turn to the door of the place and approaches the two men(ADAM + STU) in motorcycle helmets coming that just entered

    STUWell that was him getting out ofthe car in the fuckin lot

    SAMPSON turns and pays his attention to the bowling.

    The men enter the bathroom before SAMPSON

    SAMPSON enters the bathroom.

    ADAM and STU hiding in the handicap stall grab SAMPSON anddrag him in. They cover his mouth and hold a knife to histhroat

    STUYou brother made a lot of fuckingbad decisions! He owed us a lot offucking money! Being a pussy andkilling yourself doesnt fuckingvoid it! Youre in the drug stream!You know the Fandangos! Get theGODDAMN MONEY! Dont make us haveto come back for ya, get it?!

    They hit him in the head with the butt of the knife once, wehear a ringing, they hit him again and the screen goesblack.

    INT. A BACKROOM OFFICE

    We see ADAM and STU, sitting at the desk, helmets off.Theyre white guys. mostly bald. Shaved ADAM has black hairand a beard. STU is head type.

    Both are around LATE 20S/EARLY 30S.

    TANGSo he got the message.

    STUYes sir.

    TANGYou guys did good. The motorcyclehelmets, ha! He mustve beenfucking trembling.

    ALEXShaking like a shitting dog, sir.

    We see ALEX and STU sitting on a bench. Park is empty

    He buys a newspaper.

    He flips through until he finds the appropriate article.

Hisreport claims that two men, inmotorcycle masks assaulted him inthe restroom. He claims that themen assaulted him with severalstrikes to the head, which hasimparied his memory. He does not

    They both look worried.

    EXT. TEXAS DESERT

    We see the dead armadillo and DARREN walking towards thecadaver.

    We see dont his face. We see it get pulled up by the tail.We see his waistband with an old cellphone. We see it ring.

    EXT. SIDEALK-DAY

    It is cloudy. Traffic is low. They are eating pastries anddrinking soda

    STUSo... I think Ive got a plan.
