Then, the collection of publications, newspa -

pers and printed medias allowed us to create

a first map on the topic. The last two steps

consist in a exploration both of the web a of

our home countries and cultures. This last

method gave us a wider field of vision and

took advantage of our dierent perceptions

and backgrounds. In all these four cases, we

kept in mind that a welcoming sign is not

always obvious. We tried not to underesti -mate any kind of message, even though it

    was weak.

M atching our datas during these twoweeks, we began to draw a path, andto get a precise idea about the notion of wel -

coming and the several forms it can show.

Indeed, we admitted at a certain point, that

the welcoming could be generated through a

message, but also a sign, a word, and even a

shape or a simple trace on the wall. It can be

cultural, social, artistic and sometime concep -

tual. More than a notion, its a state of mind,

an attitude that can be spotted in almost every

type of media, physical or not.

In a world where communication increase eve -

ryday, cultural identities are more and morerelayed by the technologies, and distances are

shortened by the medias and the progress,

welcoming has become a central issue, but

also an essential tool for the new experiences

our this world provide us. therefore, we can ex -

pect this notion to change and materialize into

new approaches and values, probably more

    adapted to our everyday mutations.

For all of us in the group, the meaning of wel -coming is strongly linked with a positive value,an exchange, and a very human concept. Its about

a connection between the people, their environ -

ment and therefore, the things surrounding them.

The notions of personal spheres and property -

physical or intellectual - are the core of this issue.

The multiple ways of creating interactions and

relationships between beings and things, places,

signs or cultures are its language. Then, in orderto analyze the welcoming process, we decided

to look around through dierent medias, experi -

ences and gestures surrounding us and speaking

    about it.

T hus, four main axes could emerge at the verybeginning of the study. The acquisition of ma -terial infos and images in situ was the first step.

You move into a new city, for life, for va -cation, for whatever. You dont know thenew city. You have just the tourist guide and

nothing more. You dont know, where is the

best place to live, where are the best locations

to go out. Sometimes you wish that there is

somebody supporting you. Being there for

you and showing you the city through his ex -

periences and his point of view. In Frankfurt/

Main, a Godfathership program allows you

to meet a local citizen, that will introduce

you to the city and help you to find out what

youre looking for. You will contact him (or

her) in advance. While you meet him, he will

show you the good spots and special places

in his home town. Therefore, youll not stand

alone anymore and you will soon feel like

    home in this foreign city.

of the project. Everywhere in Milan blankpapers were left, asking one of these three

simple questions: what are you doing ,

what are you thinking and what are you

feeling. This message invite people to think

about their identity, based on the cultural

changes and new social behaviors that the

socializing networks have made. It interests

specially on the widespread status update

phenomenon. the second step consists in

the collection of peoples answers, written on

these papers. The third step is a event where

photo shooting will be made, completing

the posters and allowing IS to hang them all

around the city. This project is a reflexion on

peoples changes due to Facebook or Twit -

ter, etc. It explore the very essence of peo -

ples personality through a simple media and

a short ad visual sentence about it. The main

objective is to make the citizens become

    IdentitSociale

actors of their city, an though, oer them a

chance to express themselves in a larger and

wider space, Milan. Depending on the result,

it may become a very welcoming and shar

In the last few years the Polytechnic of Mi -lan and the Chinese University of Tonji havestarted a productive twinship, whose main

Tired of sitting for the boring chess game? Or

the same punches in boxing? Well try both, chessboxing. It was found by a Dutch artist,

Lepe Rubingh and not long after that it was

launch in UK with 51 members. How it works,

participants will box for 3 minutes then they

have to focus and think strategically on to

the chessboard for 4 minutes. Its a think -

ing and fighting sports combined together.

Once a checkmate before 6 rounds of chess

or knockout before the 5th round of boxing

    CheckmateandKnockout

is made, then we have the winner. It doesnt

matter how bad you are in the ring you still

can win on the chessboard by a checkmate

and also the other way around. The idea is

to train people to be able to adapt quickly

to stress or panic and be calm when needed.

Also to remind people that fighting is not just

about the muscle, but need to be supported

    by strategic thinking too.

T his is one of the strangest things I've ever seenWe were chilling in Porta Ticinese when some guycame with a dead stued fox, walking around like it was

his dog A huge amount of people start to follow him,

wanting to caress the animal and asking for her name

"Fulvia!" He answered, and precised then, that he will

open a special facebook page for the animal. The impact

of Fulvia was amazing! More or less 500 people were ask -

ing something about it on the night, and later, when we

passed by in the same spot, people were saying hello,

showing pride to know the name of the most crazy and

trendy attraction of the night. This stued fox has now a

facebook page and a lot of friends, that will probably get

to know each-other through Fulvia. A step beyond, it's

amazing to see how a useless object can create links in

the real world in less than 30 min Since we were with

this guy, we were introduced to a lot of milanese people

and felt really welcomed in this crowded place.
