Taking Responsibility The colder weather will soon be upon us and the Lost Property bin is overflowing once again. Please help your child to develop their organisation skills by ensuring that their name is on all school clothing. Remind your children to take responsibility by putting belongings in their bag and doing it up. Thank you for your ongoing co-operation in this matter. Getting Reading Right at Home Workshop

On Tuesday, 13th June (Week 8), we will be holding a ‘Getting Reading Right’ workshop. Walk Safely to School Day Last Friday 19th May we took part in Walk Safely to School Day. Thank you to Mrs Brown who met with students and walked to school from the corner of Martinsville Road and Freemans Drive. Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. For more information visit www.walk.com.au

WOW! Look at the new garden the wonderful Gardening Group has made outside Ms Hamilton’s room. Thank you to our Gardening Group for helping make our school beautiful. Kerrie Hamilton, ACTING PRINCIPAL

Chess Report Last Thursday 13 fantastic ambassadors of Cooranbong Public School made the journey to Avondale College to compete in Round 1 of the Hunter Primary Schools Chess Competition. We had two teams compete in the Rookies competition with Haydn, Asec, Isaiah and Sam all managing to win matches. Isaiah won all 5 of his matches and this team currently sits second in the Rookies competition. Kalyani, Missi, Byron, Sashi and Ella competed hard throughout the day with each of them enjoying at least one victory. Most of these players learnt the hard way that one move in chess at a critical time can easily be the difference

between victory and defeat. The attached photograph shows the sportsmanship of our two rookies sides preparing for battle. Darcy, Marley, Jarrod and Brad competed for the first time in the Knights Division which is aimed at older, more experienced players. Jarrod was the stand out in this side, winning four matches and confidently claiming the bye as a victory. Our Knights team sits in second place, very close on points to the leading team. It was fantastic to receive an email after this competition applauding the manners and sportsmanship of our students. Round 2 of this competition will be in Term 3. Chess will continue in the Library on Tuesday and Friday each week. Listen at the morning assembly as some learn to play type sessions will be included to incorporate all the students waiting to learn more about playing chess. Mr Andrews CHESS CO-ORDINATOR

Yummy Food in 1/2K

This term 1/2K have been looking at Informative texts. On Wednesday the students had to make their own sandwiches, which they enjoyed eating.

After their stomachs were full they then wrote a procedure explaining the equipment and steps they took to make their sandwich.

PSSA Soccer PSSA soccer was a huge success this week. Our second and third games saw Cooranbong moving through to the next round. WooHoo!! Our first game was a 9-4 win against Pelaw-Main and our second game a 5-4 win against Cessnock. It was a nail biting even score at half time. We were well matched in skill level but Cooranbong’s fighting spirit and will to win gave us the winning edge. I’d like to make a special mention to John Cheyne who has made every effort to help these boys become the champions they are today and a special thankyou to all the parents who were able to help with transport, and those who went above and beyond to make sure every boy on the team was prepared in every way. Mrs Murray
