Compare and Order Decimals.

Compare DecimalsDecimals are compared the same way as
whole numbers.

Comparison using ModelTo Compare 0.9 and 0.5
• Ones in both numbers are equal.
• On comparing Tenths we find that 9 tenths > 5 tenths.
• Thus, 0.9 > 0.5

Steps to compare decimals using Model• Compare the ones first.• If ones is same in both cases, then
compare tenths.• If tenths is same, compare the hundredths.• Decimals having greater tenths or
hundredths is greater.

Place Value ChartDecimals can be compared using Place
Value chart.To compare 2.39 and 2.46
Ones . Tenths Hundredths

3 > 4
Thus, 2.46 > 2.39

Steps to Compare decimals using Number line
Step 1: Line up the decimal points. Compare the greatest place first.
Step 2: Compare the next greatest place.Step 3: order the decimals from least to
greatest.

line. The number on the left of the number line
is least. The number on the right of the number
line is greatest.

2.7 is on the left of the Number line. So, 2.7 < 3.5
