Continuing a Legacy
Established in 2008, the Conrad Foundation honors the legacy of Apollo 12 astronaut, Charles “Pete” Conrad, and his four-decade passion for innovation and entrepreneurship. The organization promotes contextual learning, innovation and entrepreneurship, and foster students’ abilities to apply these skills to create a sustainable world for this and future generations.
Established in 2008, the Conrad Foundation honors the legacy of Apollo 12 astronaut, Charles “Pete” Conrad, and his four-decade passion for innovation and entrepreneurship.
During his teen years, Pete struggled academically. At that time, dyslexia was not typically recognized or fully understood. But, a perceptive headmaster saw Pete’s spark of genius and gave him the confidence he needed. Pete went on to earn a scholarship to Princeton University and a ride to the Moon as commander of Apollo 12. In November 1969, he became the third man to walk on the Moon.
After many years as an aerospace explorer, Pete’s entrepreneurial spirit took flight. He founded four companies devoted to the commercialization of space travel.
OUR VISION The Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge (Conrad Challenge) will be the leader in connecting students and subject matter experts to develop world-changing solutions. OUR MISSION To promote contextual learning, innovation and entrepreneurship, and foster students’ abilities to apply these skills to create a sustainable world for this and future generations.

About the Challenge
“We must inspire young minds and give them the resources to combine
innovation, education and entrepreneurship.”

The Power Pitches The stage is set. Once our teams are accepted into the Finalist round, they begin planning for their moment on the stage at the Innovation Summit. Student teams have six minutes to present their product concept or solution to a panel of five industry expert judges. Upon completion, the judges score the team and provide on-the-spot initial feedback. Just like the hit TV show Shark Tank!
Inspirational speeches & dialogue
Our students meet, mingle and gain advice from industry experts, leaders in innovative fields of study, dynamic adventurers and inspirational legends like astronauts and U.S. Navy captains. We set out to find the most engaging and dynamic speakers ever year. Our goal is always to educate and inspire.
"The Navy and the Conrad Foundation both share a deep commitment to STEM-related career fields. The Navy’s sponsorship of the Conrad Challenge provides the opportunity for a diverse group of
Navy experts to share their experiences and perspectives with the competitors." - Capt. David W. Bouve, national director of marketing and advertising, Navy Recruiting Command
“It was also great to be able to speak with adults with real-world work experience to help guide us on where to go from here with our innovations.” Conrad Challenge Student
