The conflicting event to be held on July 31st thru August 2nd is the Mountain Home Country Music Festival. This three day music concert is expected to bring in 20,000 plus people to the concert site located about twenty miles west of Fairfield. The Mountain Home Country Music Festival is the latest addition to the Willamette Country Music Concert series which has events in Brownsville, Or- egon (August 14-16) and Cape Blanco on the Oregon coast (July 31-Aug 2). Over twenty artists will be performing with headliners Brad Paisley, Blake Shel- ton, and Florida Georgia Line. Other performers in- clude: Justin Moore, Lone- star, Sara Evans, Thompson Square, Parmalee, Frankie Ballard, Jana Kramer, and Jackson Michelson. Concert tickets are avail- able online at mountain- homefestival.com. Various camping tickets are also available on the web site for tents, RV’s, handicap assessable, and upgraded VIP packages. On Friday of last week, the Camas County Fair Board announced that the 2015 Camas County Fair will be held August 6th thru August 9th. The Camas County Fair is normally held on the first weekend in August (July 30 thru August 2), howev- er another major event has been scheduled for those dates. Rather than compete that event, the fair board decided to postpone the fair by one week. The board is also looking for additional - energetic - people wanting to serve This Friday, February 6th, the 1A D2 District IV Girls Basketball Tournament will begin in Shoshone. The schedual will not be finalize until after Wednesday night, but the first game will begin at 4:30 p.m. The Championship game will be played on Wednesday, February 11th, at 7:30 p.m. 1st and 2nd place teams will go to the State Tournament to held on February 19- 21. The third place team will go to a play- in game. The Boys 1A D2 District Tournament begins on February 16th in Shoshone. Roadway Projects in Wendell Area Travel plans on Idaho 46 this construction season will be greatly impacted by con- struction throughout 2015, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Five projects are on tap for the roadway between Buhl and Gooding, beginning later this month and lasting through next winter. Work will include replac- ing three canal culverts, re- aligning and reconstructing one mile of roadway, recon- structing the main roadway through Wendell, perform- ing an asphalt overlay, and making bridge repairs over the Snake River. The five projects include: 1: Starting later this month, work will begin to replace the bridge over Ce- dar Draw and realign the intersection at Bob Bar- ton Road and Rex Leland Highway (3500 South, 1950 East), about five miles south of Wendell. Glenn was raised and educated in Oklahoma graduating from Jennings High School in Mayof1952.HeservedintheUnitedStatesAirForcefrom1955to1958. OnDecember22,1962GlennmarriedCristieVeederin Bellflower, California. They celebrated their 52ndanniversaryjustbeforeChristmas.Afterlivinginsev-eraldifferentplacesGlennandCristiefinallysettledinLander, Wyoming in 1966. There they raised 4 children: Galen, Chris, Michael, and Michelle. Glenn worked for U.S. Steel for 17 years. In 1985 the family relocatedto Lake County, California where Glenn worked for HomestakeMiningCompany.In2004GlennandCris-tie moved to Wendell, Idaho. Glenn’smanyinterestsincludedhuntingandfishingas well as traveling with his wife to spend time with familyandfriends.Inthelast11yearstherehavebeenmultipletripstoNevada,Wyoming,andAlaskatoseehis kids and grandkids. “The Toano Road”withShaunaRobinson

The completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, spawned the construction of four significantfreight and stage routes into southwestern and southern IdahofromnorthernUtah,andNevada.Theseroads,orig-inating in railroad townsalong theCentralPacificRail-road,establishedavitallinkforgoodsshippedfromtheEast Coast and California to the mining camps and towns in the southern reaches of Idaho Territory. One of these major roads was the Toano Road, which was surveyedin1870andpromotedasafast-freightroad.Byfol-lowingthisrouteacrossnorthernNevadatoitsconfluencewith the Oregon Trail west of today’s Hagerman, freighters couldreachBoiseina“speedy”sixdays.The“ToanoandIdaho”linehadlimitedsuccessduetocompetitionfromtheKelton Road, unexpected events in mining towns south of Toano, and construction of the railroad through southern Idahoin1884.Nonetheless,itstenyearsofexistencehadan important impact on the early mining towns and settle-ments of southern and southwestern Idaho. From 2003-2005, the Twin Falls County HistoricPreservation Commission conducted a survey of the historic Toano Road in Twin Falls County, mapping and photographing the route as it looks today. Please join Shauna as she takes you “road-hunting” for theToano Road in Idaho. Conservation Stewardship Program The Natural Resources Conservation Service is nowaccepting applications for the 2015ConservationStew-ardship Program. Producers who maintain a high level of conservationstewardshipontheirlandmaybeeligibletoreceive compensation for their efforts. Applications re-ceivedbyFebruary27,2015,willbeconsideredforthisyear’s funding. “The Conservation Stewardship Program emphasizesconservation implementation.Theprogramoffersfinan-cial incentives to farmers and ranchers to manage their farms, ranches,and timber lands toconservenatural re-sources,”saidTravisThomason,actingIdahoNRCSStateConservationist. “Theprogramencouragesagriculturalandforestrypro-ducers to address resource problems by improving andmaintaining existing conservation activities as well as undertaking additional conservation ‘enhancements’,”Thomason said. The2014FarmBillexpandedtheprogram’sconserva-tion activity list.
