Many of our veteransstrugglewithvarioustypesof disabilities, but theyarenotlookingforahandout,theyjustwantahandup. The IHT program isdesigned to help veteransdevelop vocational skills,

SoldierMountainArtswillbehostingthisyear’sEas-terEggHuntinFairfieldthisSaturday,March26th,startingat6:30p.m. Littleones(ages0-5)willhuntpriortothesungoingdown-7:15p.m.Theflashlighthuntforallotherageswillstartatdark,about8:00p.m.Bringaf lashlightandyourbasket-buckets. SoldierMountainArtswillbesellingadinnerpack(hotdog,chips,drinkandacookie)$5Wewillalsohaveabunchoffunglowinthedarknoveltiestopurchasetomakethehuntsuperfun.AllsalesgotowardstheArtsPrograms. They moved to Gooding in 1936 to get away fromthedustbowl.AfterschoolinGooding,hewenttotheWeiserTradeSchooltolearnwelding,andfromtherewenttotheVancouvershipyards. At18,hecamehometoenlist intheUnitedStatesMarineCorps.Hewashonorablydischargedin1946.Whenhecamehome,hemetPat,andtheyweremarriedthatfall. Hewasafarmerandlandlevelertherestofhislife. Hewasprecededindeathbyhisparents;1daughter;1great-grandson;7sisters;and1brother. Legislative Update from Representative Donna Pence Wearegettingdowntothewireandbillsareflyingfastandfuriousinanefforttofin-ishbythetargetdateofnextThursdaythe24th.Therearenumberofagencybudgets,land,water,educationtaskforceandhealthcarebillsthatstillhaveonechambertopasswithfivedaysremaining.H582isabilldealingwithahypotheticalsituation of how lawmakers will managefederalland,whichinthebilltheyfeelwillbe transferred to Idaho from the federalgovernmentviatheflawed“equalfooting”conceptthatUtahlawmakerspresentedtouslastweek.Itisframedasa“justincase”situation.Ivotedagainst582incommittee,butitpassedoutonapartylinevote. InonesuccessThursdaytheHouseRe-sourceCommitteevotedtoholdincom-mitteeH586whichproposedtohavethelegislatureapproveanysaleortransferofprivatelandtothefederalgovernment.Thisprovedtoomuchofaprivatepropertyrightinfringementforamajorityofthecommitteetostomach. Thereisalittlemovementonthehealth-carefront.AMedicaidExpansionlikebillwillappearMonday.Therehasbeenasignifi-cantrampingupofpressuretodosomethingthissessionfromthepublic.ThebillwillseekawaiverfromthefederalgovernmenttouseanIdahospecifictypeofplanforthoseupto100%ofpoverty.Theunfortunatethingaboutthisbillisimplementationisabout18monthsaway.ItisalsolikelythatthoseinthegapwillseemoneysavedasaresultofObamaCarehelppayforadditionalcareatHealthclinics.Theseserviceswillbeavail-ableforthis18mo.period.WewillstillneedtheCATFundandCountyIndigentFundstohelpwithseveremedicalproblemsinthisgroupofworkingpoor. AnotherbillputtorestwasonethatwouldaskforaConstitutionalAmendmentdoingawaywiththeState’sConstitutionalbanonanytaxdollarsbeingusedtofundprivateorChurchsupportedschools.Itwouldbeamajorstepincreatingvouchersforeachstudenttouseatanyschooltheywantedtoattend,whichistheultimategoaloftheschoolchoicemovement.SomethingIbe-lievewouldbedifficultinmanyofoursmalltowns.Itwillbecomingbacknextsession.
