The Courier e 2016 Presidential Primary Next Tuesday, March 8th, Idaho voters will go to the polls to vote in the Presi- dental Primary for the Re- publican and Constitution parties. While there will be 13 names on the Republican ballot (see page 9), only 5 are still officially in the race. at number may be further affected by yesterday’s Super Tuesday results. e Democrats will hold their Presidential County Caucus on March 22nd at the following locations: • Lincoln Co. - TBA • Camas Co. - Rodman Residence, 822 East Hy 20 • Gooding Co. - P&Z Meet- ing Rm, 145 7th Ave. E. • Blaine Co. W.R. HS Individuals wish to par- ticipate in the Democratic Caucus are encouraged to register online at idaho- dems.org. ----- Also on March 8th, vot- ers in Lincoln and Camas counties will vote on school levies. Shoshone Joint School District #312 (Lin- coln and Jerome) is asking for $300,000, and Camas is asking for $50,000. ‘Right to Try’ Bill Passes House Last Wednesday, the Di- etrich Boys trounced Rich field to win the Northside Basketball Championship with a score of 80 to 48. After winning the SCIC District Championship, the Wendell boys beat Marsing (47-31) to earn a spot in this year’s State tournament which begins this ursday, March 3rd. e 1AD2 tournament will be held at Caldwell High School. Dietrich will face off against Summit Academy at 8:00 p.m. this ursday. e 1AD2 cham- pionship game will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Ford Idaho Center. e 2A tournament will be held at Capital High School. Wendell’s first game of the tournament will be this Thursday at 6:15 p.m. against Melba. e 2A championship game will also be held on Saturday in the Ford Idaho Center. Game time is 1:40 p.m. Dietrich & Wendell off to State Tournament Imagine for a moment that you (or someone you love) have been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). ALS has a 100% death rate, but there is an experimental procedure at Emory University that has reversed ALS symptoms completely. Would you want to try that treatment? Of the nearly 24,000 peo- ple who have died of ALS during the last ten years, most of them would have said yes. But, because of FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) regula- tions, they didn’t have op- portunity to make that choice. is sort of govern- ment interference affects numerous diseases includ- ing various forms of can- cer, Oddly enough, many of these treatments have been tested and are already being use in Europe and elsewhere. While we have right to expect drugs and medical procedures to be reasonably safe, if a person is terminal, what is the harm in let- ting them try experimental treatments? On Monday of this week, an overwhelming majority of our Representatives in Boise agreed to pass House Bill 481 which gives termi- nally ill patients a ‘right to try’ experimental life-sav- ing treatments. Introduced by Represen- tative Melissa Wintrow, this ‘Right to Try’ bill is an effort that will potentially help peo- ple extend their lives. is bill also reaffirmed that decisions like this are best made by a patient and their doctor. “People should have the right to try to save their own lives,” said Rep. Me- lissa Wintrow. “It’s a key belief of mine and of most Idahoans that the govern- ment should not have a say in our personal medical decisions,” e bill is now heading to the Idaho Senate.
