Dear Parents

Another action packed week to conclude

Term 2. This week the school has been through

the seasons with the weather and

unfortunately we were unable to hold the

Athletics Carnival due to the cold and wet.

We have rescheduled and are confident of

the event going ahead on Wednesday,16 July

which is the first Wednesday back. The

decision to postpone is always hard but the

conditions on Tuesday saw the need to

change the date.

NAIDOC week started on Monday with a

combined gathering of schools for the official

Flag Raising held at Cowra Public School. It

was great to see many of Cowra’s Aboriginal

Elders attend the event and the morning tea

that was provided. Today the NAIDOC Public

Speaking Challenge was held at the school

with several schools being involved. In what

were spectacular performances, Lindsay

Munro, Luke Wilson, Tyahla Munro and Mac

Webster all presented fantastic presentations

with the subject being Aboriginal People and

their involvement in the Australian Army.

Congratulations to Tyahla and Mac who were

placed second and will now go on to

represent Lachlan at the Regional final later in

the year.

Also this week Mr Murray has been to most

classes and presented a talk on Aboriginal

artefacts which was received well by all the

children. Mr Murray also demonstrated his skills

on the Didgeridoo.

On Wednesday the school was represented

at the Peachy Shield in Dubbo by our Rugby

League team where they played 3 games.

The competition was extremely tough and we

commend the boys for their strong

performance on the day. A big thank you to

the parents who travelled with the boys and

Mr Murray.

Tonight the school will hold the first Disco of

the year. Stage 1 will commence at 5pm and

go through to 6.15pm followed by the Primary

Disco starting at 6.30 and concluding at 8pm.

A small door fee of $2 will be collected on

the night and the canteen will operate for

the purchase of drinks and food. We

encourage all students to attend this event

as it is always a great deal of fun. It is

compulsory that all children are collected

from the Auditorium by an adult (parent).

No child will be allowed to leave the

school without an adult.

Tomorrow is the NAIDOC mufti day and we

encourage everyone to wear red, black or

yellow. The day will include Stage 3

Aboriginal students and a friend

participating in an interschool challenge at

Mulyan Public School while the rest of the

school will be attending a special NAIDOC

Assembly which we encourage parents to

attend. Starting at 11.30, this assembly will

highlight several programs run through the

school which are linked to Aboriginal

culture. Also prizes for the NAIDOC

colouring and story telling contest will be

handed out.

The canteen will be holding a “Red, Yellow

many more treats on sale. A note was sent

home yesterday outlining the food on sale.

During the holidays parents should take the

opportunity to teach their children their

mobile and home phone numbers as

many students who have been completing

personal health and protection lessons do

not know their correct phone numbers and

correct addresses.

Congratulations to Joshua Pokoney who

just missed out on a place in the Western

Region Rugby League team last week.

I hope that everyone enjoys the break and

stays warm and safe over the holidays.

School will resume on Tuesday, 15 July.

Enjoy the holidays.
