‘Flying Start’ We had another cold session this week for Flying Start. It was still a great morning with more students feeling comfortable in the environment and with the teachers. We read the well-known Pamela Allen book ‘Who sank the boat?’ All students created a boat with all the animals from the story, including the mouse jumping in at the end. There will be no Flying Start session next Monday due to the Queen’s Birthday public holiday. We will see you all again on Monday 17
th June at 9.30am.

More from Reconciliation Week… There was more to enjoy towards the end of last week with our Reconciliation Week events including the Reconciliation Smoking Ceremony, Yarns with special guest, Ray Timbery, and Stage 3’s assembly item.
The smoking ceremony, held first thing on Friday morning, was a lovely way to begin the day. Ray spoke deeply about respect, love and having good values. He then lit a small fire, smouldering various native plants to produce smoke for cleansing and to ward off bad spirits. The students and staff appreciated being a part of this special ceremony. Ray then visited each class during the day to further promote the messages he shared with us during the smoking ceremony and told us some great family stories, showed artefacts and demonstrated boomerang throwing.
At 12:15pm, everyone joined together again with parents and guests, for a Reconciliation assembly in our school hall. Stage 3 students: Cody Tate, Abigail Gray, Skyelah Gray and Stirling Inder lead this assembly. Their stage peers presented a Reconciliation Timeline for everyone to walk through and then re-enacted the very significant song ‘From Little Things Big Things Grow’. Ray also joined Stage 3 on stage in his traditional dress to play the didgeridoo for the audience. It was a very respectful and special assembly. Well done Stage 3 and thank you Ray!
Crookwell Public School meets Ray Timbery from Dharug.
Mrs Bell & Mr Whittington keep the kindling burning for the Reconciliation Smoking Ceremony.
Ray performs a very special cultural ceremony to kick off a
great day on Friday.
Kindergarten is fascinated by the items Ray shares with

Friday’s assembly.
Kiarna McCarten’s vocals melt the audience.

Gurindji Strike in Australia’s history.
Abigail, Cody, Skyelah and Stirling proudly present the whole
school artwork contributed to by every student and staff member in our school.
Cooper Galway enjoys having his face decorated by Ray.

brought in by Ray.
Family and guests walk together, with courage through
Year 5’s Reconciliation Timeline.
Students learn from walking through the timeline and reading
about significant events in Australia’s history.
Ray joins Stage 3 on stage to perform the didgeridoo for our
school community.
The audience can’t help but join in with the amazing sounds
coming from the stage.
Sophie, Abigail and Maddy are so appreciative that Ray
could bring so much to our school in one day!
Glynn McIlwain’s smile sums up an amazing Reconciliation
Week at Crookwell Public School.
Gymnastics This week students from K-6 continued to enjoy participating in our Gymnastics program. Students developed their skills in rolling. With Vaughn’s assistance, we have been performing egg rolls, stick rolls and somersault rolls. Students particularly enjoyed practising their somersault rolls using the wedge.
Year 4 students practise ‘child’s pose’.

World Environment Day Wednesday 5
th June was World Environment Day. Students
in Stage 2 explored this year’s theme of ‘Beat Air Pollution’, discussing things people are doing to tackle this issue. Students in 3/4 Echidna wrote about what they as individuals could do either now or in the future. The 3/4 Koala classroom was a buzz of activity, working to reduce the imprint of the fashion industry on the environment by making re-useable fruit and vegie bags from old T-shirts.
Angus Barber, Kade Fowler, Louise Robertson and Evelyn
Dark display their World Environment Day projects.
Alex Anderson and Bailey Sewalt are a picture of
concentration as they sew.
Anthony Barber and Erik Skelly make a well-focussed team.
Reagan Willis and Ada Dunn seem to have their sewing
technique figured out.
Liam Garnham didn’t realise helping the environment and
sewing could be so much fun!
Snow Day It was exciting to see the beautiful snow on Tuesday after the teaser we had the week before with just a few flakes falling. Many staff members and students were unable to attend school due to road closures but for the people who did make it safely to school we had a great day. Well done Mr Whittington for doing a great job helping to clear the snow and ice to make access to our school safe for students, parents and staff on Tuesday morning.
Mr Whittington and our local council workers worked together
to make sure the paths in to the school were safe on Tuesday morning.
David, Erik, Ella, Regan and Skye were very excited to wake
to a snow covered landscape on Tuesday morning.
A very quick play and then back inside to where it was warm
and dry!
Earn & Learn Returns Woolworths are running Earn & Learn again this year between 1 May and 25 June. If you spend money at Woolworths during this period don’t forget to collect the stickers. Sticker sheets can be collected from the office for you to fill up and return to the school. The more stickers we get, the more equipment we can buy.
Enrolling Now For 2020
If you know of families who will have children starting school at Crookwell Public in 2020 please encourage them to return their Application for Enrolment Form promptly. This will allow staffing arrangements for next year to be firmly in place by the commencement of the new academic year.
Families new to the school community are invited to contact the school on 48 321 213 to arrange an interview with Mr Whittington, meet the staff, tour the school and receive a Crookwell Public School Information package.
Thank you to the families who have already completed and submitted their child’s application to enrol.
Dental Assessment Notes - reminder A friendly reminder that on Tuesday 18
th June the
Community Services dental nurse will be visiting the school. This year’s dental assessment will take place between 9:15am – 11:15am. The consent form for a free oral health assessment undertaken at school by a dental therapist from the Goulburn Child Oral Health Service was sent home earlier this term.
This form needs to be returned to the office with either a yes or no response before the dental assessments take place in
the coming weeks.
Some Benefits of Regular School Attendance
For Students:
The development of skills and attitudes such as self-discipline, punctuality, and being organised will optimise life choices.
Regular attendance leads to making friends and learning how to maintain relationships over a length of time.
Regular attendance leads to learning social skills necessary to live and work with others.
It’s safer at school than on the street.
The more students attend, the more they will learn and the more they will like school.
How many days of school has your child missed this term?

When you receive your child’s report you will notice that the report format has changed this year. We would greatly appreciate your feedback on the changes we have made. There will be a short survey that we would like parents to complete at Parent/Teacher interviews in relation to the new report format. We thank you in advance for your participation in the survey.
