The lost property baskets are overflowing and the coat hooks are groaning under the weight of items of ‘lost’ school uniform that nobody appears to own. Please have a thorough check to ensure none of these ‘lost’ items belong to you.

All named items will be returned to their owners before the end of term with unnamed items boxed and donated to a charity. Please don’t lose something you value. End of Year Survey Attached to last week’s ‘News & Views’ is a brief School Communication Survey and English Survey for Parents. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and the information provided will prove very useful in helping to determine the directions the school will follow in the future. Your help with this matter is much appreciated.

N.B. Completed surveys must be returned to school by the end of term.

This video of Year 7 students explain why teens shouldn’t be worried about starting high school, and how they can get off to a great start in the first few days.

Year 5 Dazzles! Once again the students in Year 5 demonstrated their dramatic skills while performing their Christmas item aptly named Deck the Shed with Bits of Wattle. A take on a traditional carol, the play saw Australian animals helping a mate in the true spirit of Christmas. Our school hall was decorated with an old tin shed, lots of local flora in the form of gum and wattle tree branches and glittery stars. Along with Santa dressed in Blundstone boots, an Akubra, shorts and singlet was a heavenly Year 5 choir singing the praises of an Aussie Santa. Congratulations Year 5 on such an outstanding performance. You are certainly entertaining thespians. Merry Christmas Crookwell Public School!

Bush creatures, Eboney Handcock Petria Okkonen

and Megan Forbes were at the ready with flora for the Christmas shed.

Our Aussie Santa, Isaiah Druett along with Aussie

animals, Joshua Merryfull and Shay Smith completed the Christmas shed scene.

Road Safety Reminder for Parents and Carers these Holidays Remember when walking near roads, on footpaths, near driveways and in car parks always hold your child’s hand, talk to your child about road safety and point out road safety dangers and differences in new environments. The best way to keep your child safe on or near the road is to hold their hand. Talk with your child daily about road safety. K, 1, 2 Gallery Excursion We had a wonderful time at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery last Wednesday. Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 explored a variety of indigenous artworks at the Gallery and participated in creating artworks about our Australian culture with the Gallery’s Education Officer, Sally.

Year 1 and Year 2 also had the opportunity to learn about water and waste management through games run by Teena from the Goulburn Shire Council. Meanwhile Kindergarten went to the Goulburn library to listen to some Aboriginal dreamtime stories with Michelle.

It was a fantastic day!

Kindergarten carefully listen to a dreamtime

story read by Michelle in the library.

Isabella Moon, Emma Robertson, Logan Cartwright,

Keeley Cunningham, Sianabel Anderson and Vincent Bill enjoy the time to create artworks

from the Aboriginal dreamtime stories.

Sally O’Neill and Kindergarten discuss their

ideas about the Indigenous artworks on display at the Goulburn Gallery.

Thank you Year 3 & 4 Parents The teachers from Years 3 and 4 would like to say a huge thank you to the parents who helped make our assembly item a success. We appreciate the time and effort it takes to help students learn their lines and put costumes together. We would like to give a big thank you to our awesome makeup artists, Kylie Ward, Jess Potts, Sandra Moore and Nicole Price who took time to transform our gorgeous students in to grisly looking zombies!

Truly! They are really quite friendly … well most of the time. Year 7 2015 BYOD Initiative A group of Year 6 parents from across district schools are getting together to bulk buy laptops suitable for Year 7 students to use in 2015. This is in response to the ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) initiative that was recently announced. The group is hoping to buy the BYO devices at a cheaper rate than if they were purchased individually.

If you would like to learn more about this ‘bulk buying group’ please complete and return the slip below to CPS by Monday 15th December, 2014.

Enterprise and Entertainment at the Fete Year 6 held a very successful fete on Wednesday. Students took the opportunity to catch up on some Christmas shopping at the White Elephant stall. Many students went home proudly displaying fake tattoos, creative hairstyles, beautifully manicured nails and professionally made-up or painted faces. There was not an empty tummy to be found after students devoured cakes, ice-creams, drinks and sausage sandwiches. Well done Year 6, you did yourselves proud and raised approximately $1500! Thank you to all students, parents and staff for supporting Year 6.

Charlie Price, Noah Davis and Zac McGregor used their BBQ skills to feed the hungry hoards at the Year 6 Fete.

2015 Classes and Teachers I am very pleased about the educational and social advantages that our class grouping will allow again next year. This arrangement that is not based on enrolment numbers, although made possible by enrolment numbers, will allow the academic and social needs of ALL students to be best met. A great deal of time and effort by your child’s teachers, the people who know your child best at school, has been spent considering assessment data and peer relationships to form the most effective classes possible. They are experienced, educationally trained and dedicated professionals who want the very best educational ‘package’ for your child at Crookwell Public School.

I want you as parents to embrace and fully support this plan however I do understand that some of you will have questions and concerns that you would like addressed. I encourage you to phone me on 48321213 to discuss the matter or make an appointment to arrange a meeting time if you have any questions or concerns.

Early in Term 1 2015 a ‘Meet The Teacher’ afternoon will be conducted. I hope that you will be able to attend these meetings to understand what is happening in classrooms and learn the steps you can take at home to best support your child’s academic and social development. Early Stage 1 Kindergarten: 30 students will be taught by teachers Miss Jade Logan and Mr Ryan Grey. With a pupil teacher ratio of 1 teacher to 15 students this is an excellent start to school. This organisation is even more desirable when you consider the class will also have the support of a school learning support officer and be participating in the highly successful L3 (Language, Learning and Literacy) Program. Kindergarten will be housed in the current purpose designed Kindergarten classroom.

Stage 3 Year 5: 35 students will be taught by Miss Kirstie O’Neill and Mrs Margi Jansen. This results in a pupil teacher ratio of 1 teacher to 18 students. The class will be housed in the current Year 5 classroom that is located under the library in the canteen block. The class will also be supported by Learning Assistance Support Teacher (LAST) Mrs Helen Anderson. This arrangement is ideal and will allow for students right across the educational achievement spectrum to have their learning needs met.

Year 6: 18 students will be taught in the classroom upstairs above the canteen, adjacent to the library in the room where the current Year 6 class is located. The class will be taught by Mrs Lesley Atfield who will prepare them well for their secondary schooling.

Additional Staff In 2015 Mrs Davies will continue to implement the Reading Recovery (RR) Program with students in Year 1 as well as assuming the role of school’s librarian.

Mrs Anderson will become the school’s Learning Assistance Support Teacher (LAST) working with students across the school requiring additional academic assistance.

Mrs Wendy Lyons will no longer be a part of the staff, having taken up a teaching position at Laggan Public School. On behalf of the Crookwell Public School community I would like to thank Mrs Lyons for her work over the years and wish her well as she takes up her teaching position at Laggan Public School.

School Learning Support Officers, Mrs Kate Gay, Miss Jessica Stephenson and Mrs Nicole Price will continue to provide additional assistance and support to students in classrooms across the school.

Mrs Billie Willis will return to part-time work where she will work in the office with Mrs Robyn Hall and Mrs Sharon King. A big thank you is extended to Mrs Megan Johnston who assisted in the office while Mrs Willis was on leave.
