There are only four root words in the English language that begin with dw.

Can you name them?

Answer: dwell, dwarf, dwindle and dweeb.

What’s in a brand name?

Adi and Rudi Dassler formed Dassler Brothers Shoes in Ger-

many in 1925. After WWII, Rudi broke off to form his own

shoe company called Puma, Adi Dassler formed a competing

company named after himself: Adidas.

2016 Mental Health Summit

August 23, 2016

The mission of the 2016 Mental Health Summit hosted by

VA Illiana Health Care System was to enhance the mental

health and well-being of those who have served in our

armed forces and their family members through increased

collaborative partnerships between the VA and the com-

munity. The goal of the summit was to facilitate an active

discussion about how we as collective members of our

community can proactively address the mental healthcare

needs of Veterans and their families.

Three representative from Crosspoint attended the Mental

Health Summit held at the Danville Area Community Col-

lege (DACC): Joey Smith, Vanetta Harvey, and Anita John-

son. Crosspoint hosted a display table with informational

materials about the Crosspoint Supportive Housing Pro-

gram for Homeless Veterans and their Families and

Crosspoint staff also provided handouts and brochures

about other Crosspoint programs.

Thought for September

Scripture says you should put aside childish

things when you grow up. I take that to mean

willfulness, self-centeredness, and things like

that —not imagination, creativity, and joyful cu-

riosity.

Dick Van Dyke

Danville Native & Actor,

in his memoir Keep Moving

Aimee Unakis was able to dunk our Executive Director

Thom Pollock after 12 balls.

IPS News – From: Aimee Unakis

Due to the relocation, out of state, by our two Employment Specialists, we have hired two new staff to

fill those positions. Meredith Grant, transferred from Care Coordination, and an external applicant,

Karla Anderson was hired to fill the other position. Please join us in welcoming Karla and congratulat-

ing Meredith on her transfer! We look forward to having another successful year in IPS.

The Vocational staff would also like to highlight a success story each month. This month’s standout

is “Rick”*, an employee of a local McDonald’s. He has been successfully working now for 5 months

and reports loving his job. He was in our program for almost 2 years before he started McDonald’s but

he and his Employment Specialist never gave up. Persistence held out and Rick has become a valu-

able member of his company’s team. His supervisor, at McDonalds, reports that she is very happy

with Rick and his work ethic, dependability and infectious smile. Rick has become so confident that

he will be a speaker, in September, at the annual Recovery Conference in Springfield. Rick will be

sharing his story on how getting a job has changed his life and his outlook. The Vocational program

not only helps individuals find competitive employment, but also instills hope, confidence and inde-

pendence.

If you know of a person served that could benefit from the program, please complete a referral form

and submit to Aimee Unakis.

WRAP News - From Aimee Unakis

Joey Smith, VA/Justice Care Coordinator, has been accepted as an applicant for certification for

WRAP Facilitator training this Fall in Pekin, IL. He will be attending with Aimee Unakis, who is a

shadow trainer for the 2016 class from Regions 3 and 4. Congrats Joey!

Once Joey has graduated from the training, he will be one of four certified WRAP facilitators at

Crosspoint (along with Randi Jones, Diana Brenneman and Aimee Unakis). This will make Cross-

point one of the few agencies in Regions 3 and 4 to have four Facilitators!

PSR News- From: Aimee Unakis

The PSR team and several persons served will be attending the annual Recovery Conference on Sep-

tember 15th in Springfield. This conference is always arranged by consumers of mental health and

several break out sessions provide different topics and positive stories of hope and recovery! If any-

one wishes to go with the team or separately, please see Aimee for more information.

The PSR Staff consists of our Skills Trainers: Holly Phillips, Diana Brenneman, and Taryn Miller.

All three programs are currently accepting referrals.
