Protecting God’s Children Workshops The Archdiocese of Detroit’s “Protecting God’s Children” workshop is held periodically throughout the Archdio-cese. To find a session that fits your schedule, go to www.virtus.org and se-lect “Registration.” You will be directed to a prompt to search for locations. You will need this to do ANY classroom or lunch-room volunteering. (Please call DRE Mr. K at 810.765.8300 if you need help.) All volunteers working with children must have attended a “PGC” workshop. Remember: you need to complete this workshop in order to volunteer for field day or camp or to chaperone field trips.

Volleyball Practices began this week. Ms Sa-mantha Duncan returns as coach. Her team includes eighth graders Julia Du-Vall, Lydia Kukawka, Dresden Scott and Nicole Zawadzinski, seveth graders Maggie Bartholomew, Claire Camp-bell, Rebecca Goulette, Taylor Marlatt, Scarlett Scott and Anna Winne, and sixth graders Gemma Downey, Audrina Guldemond and Allison Kuzera. The girls’ first game is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 12, at St. Augustine, and their first home game a few days later: on Thurs-day, Feb. 15. Looking forward to a great season!
Financial Aid for 2018-19
The first step for anyone wanting to apply for tuition assistance is to submit an application for help through the Arch-diocese of Detroit. Information and in-structions are available at : www.online.factsmgt.com/aid Parent Information Letter Pastor Signature Sheet Online application through FACTS is re-quired. Your application must be accompa-nied by your pastor’s signature. You can download the form using the above ad-dress and ask your pastor to sign it. That form needs to be turned in by Feb. 19. We are fortunate in having some oth-er, local scholarship resources as well; however, application for the AoD’s grant is required prior to applying for any other assistance.

Influenza We had a number of students out last week either diagnosed with influenza by their doctors or having influenza-like symptoms. (This week has been better!) The Health Department expects this to be a bad year for ‘the flu” and they offer more information at these web address-es:

PTO invites dads, grandpas and un-cles for a light breakfast next Wednes-day, Feb. 7 from 7-7:30am in the cafete-ria.
Auction 2018
...will be NEXT Saturday, February 10, in the Holy Cross Activity Center. The Auc-tion committee has been hard at work for months to make this evening exciting, fun and profitable for the school! Are you short on service credits? Some work shifts are available on Feb. 9 and at the auction on Feb. 10. Contact Tiffany c/o school for information.
Eighth Graders’ Baby Pictures Every year in our yearbook, we play “match game” with our 8th graders, pub-lishing baby pictures of them and trying to match each baby to his/her 8th grade self. Of course, we don’t have baby pic-tures of your kids! So this is a plea to parents of this year’s eighth graders: please send Mrs. Steinmetz a digital copy of a baby picture of your child that we may publish in our yearbook. We’ll need the photos before March 1. Thanks so much for your help!

Helping the Pantry Next week brings the second Friday of the month: time for our monthly drive to re-stock the parish’s pantry. Food do-nations have the pantry in good shape. However, paper products, soaps and hygiene projects are in short supply. If you are able to help, things like toi-let paper, paper towels, toothpaste, shampoo, and hand, laundry and dish soaps are needed for our collection for the pantry during mass on Feb. 12. Our needy neighbors thank you!
Science Fair Display Boards ...are available in the office: $4 each.

Science Fair! Students in grades 5-8 will be taking home information about the Science Fair. (They should already have been discuss-ing possible ideas with their parents!)Projects will be due on March 7.
Holy Cross T-Shirts The PTO has a few Holy Cross logo T-shirts available for sale at the school office. There are youth small, medium and large and adults small and medium (short sleeve) for $10 each; “sparkly” one each youth small and adult large at $13 each; one each youth large and adult small long sleeve t-shirts for $15 each; and caps for girls at $20 each. Stop in to see them if you are interested.

Open House ...is Sunday, March 11 (1-3pm). Parents and student ambassadors will be sought to show prospective families through the school and answer their questions. Students’ art and science fair projects will also be on display. Do you know someone who might be interested in joining our “family?”—invite them to the Open House!
Bingo Concessions
Bingo concessions at the Wednesday bingo are back! But not for service cred-its: now bingo concessions will help you earn money for camp. Earnings from concessions will be pro-rated among the workers (by number of bingos worked) and applied to their camp bills at the end of December 2018. One worker per Wednesday bingo will be needed beginning February 14. If you are interested or for more information please contact Tracy c/o school.
