  • The theme of Cultural Diversity Week this year is Curiosity, Conversation and CommunityCome out and meet your neighbours, share your cultures, celebrate the community’s many languages and learn about each other’s faiths. We don’t even have to leave Hobsons Bay to enjoy iconic architecture, worldly flavours, and spiritual adventures. It is all right here in our local community. From our First Nation people to our successive waves of migrants, our diversity is continually changing and shaping our community. Let’s celebrate this diversity together to connect and share in our common humanity.

Council acknowledges that these activities occur on the traditional lands of the Kulin Nation. We recognise the First People’s relationship to this land and offer our respect to their elders, past and present.

“On behalf of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, I wish all Hobsons Bay residents a very happy Cultural Diversity Week and thank you for your continued support in this important program to promote diversity and the benefits that brings to our vibrant and culturally rich state. The Commission is a proud partner of Hobsons Bay and we commend the Council’s efforts in celebrating and promoting diversity and inclusion. May you all embrace the spirit of the week and enjoy the vibrant festivities and the conversation it brings.”

Ms Viv Nguyen Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission

"I am pleased to invite you to celebrate Cultural Diversity Week 2020 in our multicultural city. Hobsons Bay is home to people from 140 different countries with our residents speaking more than 100 different languages. Cultural Diversity Week is a great opportunity to connect with neighbours and help make Hobsons Bay an inclusive place to live, work and play. I hope you enjoy the 2020 program on offer.”

Councillor Colleen Gates Mayor of Hobsons Bay

“This year, the first day of Cultural Diversity Week coincides with the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Harmony Day on 21 March. Let’s spend time together so we can understand and appreciate each other’s cultures so much more, unite and broaden our minds.”
