Key Club is an international volunteer organization of over 260,000 high

schoolers who work toward one mutual goalproviding service to make the worl

a better place to live. Key Club members lend a helping hand to manyorganizations, such as The Eliminate Project, Childrens Miracle Network,

your volunteer work with Key Club benefit others, but it will also benefit you.

Being a Key Club member helps you by:

Giving you an opportunity to make friends with students from your classand upper/lower classes

Building your character as well as your leadership skills Showing colleges that youre willing to put in the time to help those

    around you

    Dont Forget!$30 dues must be

Dues are necessary because a portion must besent in to Key Club International, another

portion goes to charity, and the remainder goestoward purchasing Key Club shirts. If you need

contact Ms. Kiklas in Room 2408.

Fundraising for The Eliminate Project:The Eliminate Project serves as the district project and is at the top of the

international Key Clubs to-do list. One baby dies every nine minutes from maternal/neonatal tetanus (MNT).

However, The Eliminate Project has eradicated MNT from 20 countries since 2000. Three does of a $0.60 vaccine

save a mother and all of her future children. Our goal is to stop MNT by 2015. To learn more about The Eliminat

    Project, visitwww.sites.kiwanis.org/Kiwanis/en/theELIMINATEproject/home.aspx.

Volunteering at K2 Academy Parents Night Out: Parents Night Out is one of the most popular Key Club events.

Occurring at a local gymnastics facility, it is a chance for mentally challenged children to have a good time with ou

volunteers while also giving their busy parents some time to themselves.

Participating at a multitude of events at local venues: Cy-Falls volunteers also participate in a variety of unique even

such as craft bazaars, school carnivals, festivals, marathons, and more.

Attending District Convention (DCON): DCON is the final summation of Key Club at the end of each year. Key

Club members travel to Dallas to participate in a conference with workshops, elections, charity events, contests, an

dances. Further, each club is awarded certain distinctions based on their annual achievements. Our school was

recognized as the 5th place club in the entire Texas-Oklahoma district last year and is on its way to 1st place this year

on the lookout for more DCON information soon.

Fishing forFreshmenWith the advent of the 2012 school year right before our eyes,

Cypress Falls Key Club has been busily occupied with the most

important mission of the yearrecruiting members. For every c

their main source of new volunteers is the influx of freshmen w

enter the schools double doors each fall semester. Though man

current members reach out to friends and family to join the

organization, not all prospective Key Clubbers are lucky enough

be in contact with someone who is already involved in the prog

Because of this, the Cypress Falls Key Club goes fishing for new

members every year at Fish Camp. Many of the incoming fresh

are anxious yet inquisitive about whats to come during the nex

years of their lives. As upperclassmen who have been there our

its our job to make them feel welcome in our school. Further,

committed Key Club members, its even more important for us

treat others with the respect, integrity, and care that are charactof the organization were a part of.

At Fish Camp, Key Club members enthusiastically greet and

befriend the incoming ninth graders to ease some of the worrie

feel about entering a new phase in their lives. A nervous freshm

be last year, I remember hearing the energetic chanting of Join

Club! and wondering why anyone would choose to join a club

key-makers. My curiosity got the best of me, nonetheless, and I

decided to take a closer look. The President of the organization

enthusiastically telling a small group of students about their

numerous volunteer events. As I watched her speak, I determinthat I wanted to find something I could be equally passionate a

and signed my name to become a new member. Meeting an am

person or discovering a new niche can make a big, scary school

    much nicer placer to be.

The recruitment of new members at Fish Camp helps incomin

freshmen meet new friends, build their character, and recogniz

passion for volunteering while also having a lasting impact on t

community. The more volunteers, the more of an impact. Wha

greater is that in four years, these freshmen will be leading theCypress Falls Key Club. In four years, theyll be crossing the sta

and leaving the halls of Cypress Falls to become adults. In four

the concepts they learn as a volunteer will be something they ca

apply to the real world. Key Club members who learn to do

whatever it takes to help those around them in high school w

carry those skills throughout life and help people wherever they

and thats what Key Club is all about.

he accolade was announced at the end of the International Convention before Key Club

members from around the world. Chandwani said, I was honored to receive such a

wo years, and Ive been involved with a lot of fundraisers for the project.

Moreover, Chandwani was selected to serve as the Convention Liason during the upcoming

chool year. In her position, she will be in charge of coordinating the 2013 District

he weekend. On her Tex-O-Key blog, Chandwani wrote, DCON is a way for us all to

ome together at the end of the year to celebrate our dedicated service with passion,

xcitement, and enthusiasm. DCON is extremely important because of the diffusion of ideasnd practices that takes place.

he Cypress Falls club sponsor, Kathie Kiklas, said, Roshni has been an enthusiastic

member of our Key Club, and I couldnt be prouder of everything she has accomplished.

We look forward to many great things ahead from Chandwani.

From July 4 to 8, Cypress Falls

Key Club members traveled toOrlando, Florida, for the annual
