FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families and Friends
Term 2, 2020 will be remembered for the way our entire school community - teachers, parents and
support staff, adapted and responded in a time of crisis to deliver positive outcomes for our students
at The Caves. Report cards are out and we can now farewell this crazy term, taking with us memories
of our successes, our failures, our learnings, our misgivings and our silver linings. Well done everyone.
We made it!!
COVID-19 Guidelines Term 3
In saying that, the COVID-19 threat hasn’t gone away and we will continue to be bound by many of
the restrictions that COVID-19 has forced us to set in place.
Guidelines for students
- Unwell students are to remain at home until well
- Regular handwashing/sanitising, particularly before & after eating, & after going to the toilet
- Encourage students to bring water bottles
- Social distance where appropriate
Guidelines for staff
- Unwell staff to remain at home
- Continue to practise good hand washing and cough-sneeze hygiene
- 1.5m distancing including in staff rooms and other shared spaces
- Open windows and promote air flow where possible and when environmental conditions allow
Guidelines for Parents/adult visitors
- Observe physical distancing measures by not congregating in areas inside or around the school
eg car park, at drop off and pick up time, outside classrooms, office or at the school gate.
- 1.5m distance at all times from another adult for all parents, visitors and staff
- Stop Drop and Go to continue morning and afternoon for the time being
Sports Days/Parade
- Physical distancing of adults must be adhered to – 1.5m distance at parade and on sports days
- Helpers at sports day to adhere to health and hygiene practices when touching sports
equipment
Library books and school readers
- A school process for quarantining books has been established. Students will be allowed a
borrowing capacity of 6 books. Three books are returned to the quarantine trolley on Library
day (Friday) and three new ones are borrowed. Returned books will be processed after 72
hours of quarantine.
Cleaning

Chaplain
We have received funding for a chaplain and I’m happy to announce the James Harrison will be joining
us at The Caves SS on Fridays for the rest of the year. James will be coming to school today to
meet the students and talk to them on parade.
Cyber Echo
In a school where we are embracing the use of technology to engage students and
differentiate their learning, we also recognise the need to help students understand the
pitfalls of certain online behaviours. Next term the students in Year 3 to 6 will be doing
6 lessons that teach positive online behaviours. They will address on-line relationships
versus face-to-face relationships, social networking, online grooming, protecting personal
information, privacy settings, reporting, communicating positively online and creative a positive digital
footprint. The message that “What you share will always be there” underpins the program and each
lesson teaches children key safety strategies.
Raising Resilient Children
Resilience is the ability to rebound or spring back. In the school context, it means the ability to cope
with problems, to pick yourself up, brush yourself off and get on with things. It is the opposite of
becoming stressed and anxious when things don’t go to plan and it is a quality that all children (and
adults) need, to cope with the problems they encounter in their lives.
Please consider joining us at school on Tuesday night 21st July to watch an online session about Raising
Resilient Children. I’ll make a big pot of soup to share with anyone who’d like to attend. Think of it
as a social night out and learn something at the same time. Flyer with more information is within this
newsletter.
Extra-Curricular
On top of their already heavy workload, each of our teachers takes on
extra-curricular activities with students in the lunch hours. Ms Dean runs
the choir. Miss Mac has the coding club and the Dungeons and Dragons
group. Mrs Schroeter runs our Student Council and Mrs Gray runs the
drama club. Students gain so much enjoyment out of these activities
which truly enrich their education. This week we had the pleasure of
seeing the Drama Club in action as the Funkydoodle Circus Clowns.
Thank you to all the staff for the extra effort you put in to give our
students an extra amazing education.
I hope you all have a wonderful two week break. I will be spending some
quality time with my family and I’m particularly excited about getting to know my brand new grandson
Thomas Jack, who was born last week. I look forward to seeing you all back safe and sound next
term.
Kind regards
Wendy

the school office as soon as possible.
A NOTE FROM YOUR SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHER
School photos are almost upon us again! The school has engaged MSP Photography
to create our school records this year and you are invited to purchase prints of
your child. On photo day, every student will be photographed regardless of
whether you are purchasing or not.
Your child will bring home a personalised order envelope from the photographers. Please take care to
read and follow all the instructions carefully. This will ensure your order is processed smoothly and
efficiently and will help you to avoid any late fees. You will have the option to order online or with
cash in your student’s envelope. Please take care to follow the instructions carefully.
Additional order envelopes are available from the school office for separated parents, blended
families and grandparents. You will need to collect these on or before photo day and give it to the
photographer on photo day. Be sure to write “Mum’s order” or “Dad’s order” on top of your envelope.
COVID 19 NOTICE
Due to the current social distancing health directive proscribed by law, school photographers
are obligated to social distance from all students, school staff and parents whilst visiting your
school. This is a hard and fast rule that we cannot break or bend. As a result of this
requirement, it means that we have had to remove any traditional group photos (including sibling
photos) from our offerings until such time as social distancing requirements are lifted.
We are truly sorry for any disappointment that this causes and appreciate your understanding
that these circumstances are outside of our control.
As school staff are unable to help with photography enquiries or payments, please direct your
questions and comments directly to MSP Photography by phoning 4921 3355 or to
Thank you for working with us through these unusual times and we look forward to a
great photo day.
Keep smiling!!!

A ‘Raising Resilient Children’ seminar is being offered
to all parents at no cost on Tuesday 21st July from
7:00pm to 8:15pm. Wendy is happy to open up the

via Zoom together as a group.
If you would like to attend, please let us know as soon
as possible. Thank you
School Watch’ – Look, Listen, Report
Our school is a hive of activity during the terms but
it lays quite dormant and uninhabited during our
holidays. While we are in a small rural community
schools provide an opportunity for criminal activity
– becoming targets for unlawful entry, arson,
stealing, graffiti and property damage offences.
The School Watch Program is a partnership
between the Department of Education and the
Queensland Police Service (Protective Services).
The program aims to reduce criminal activity in
Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look
out for after-hours crime in our schools.
If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt
to intervene. Instead, call the School Watch
number of 13 17 88. If you see a crime in progress,
please call Triple Zero (000).
Let’s all work together to help create a safer school community for our students.
If you have information for police, contact Policelink
by providing information using the online suspicious
activity form 24hrs per day at
www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting.
You can report information about crime anonymously
to Crime Stoppers, a registered charity and
community volunteer organisation, via
crimestoppersqld.com.au 24hrs per
