FLU SEASON HERE
That wonderful time of year is here again and unfortunately I’m not refer-ring to Thanksgiving or Christmas. Yes, we are into another “flu season”. We have been VERY fortunate the last cou-ple years in that we have avoided any major issues with residents contracting the flu. Although we encourage and en-joy visitors at all times day and night, we strongly advise and REQUEST that if you are experiencing any symptoms with the flu, please refrain from visiting until your symptoms clear up. THANK YOU
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION!!!!
SEASON OF THANKSGIVING
Every day of the week at WRC we have what we call our “stand up” meeting. A group of about 12 staff members get together to review the last 24 hours and look forward to the day ahead. We re-view resident medical conditions, trans-portation to medical appointments, up-coming activities, etc. Recently I asked this group of co-workers what they are REALLY, REALLY thankful for in this sea-son of thanksgiving. The predominant answer was: FAMILY. This got me think-ing about the incredible “family” we have here at WRC! While we are not technically family, I have long said that my staff and I feel and act like we are “extended family” for each and every resident. I think this is what makes WRC such a special place. We ARE a family taking care of family – nothing more, nothing less. It is our commit-ment and it is truly who we ARE!!!

2nd ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GONG SHOW
It is with GREAT excitement that I an-nounce we will be hosting the 2nd annu-al Christmas Gong Show on Wednes-day, December 18 at 2:45. This is a “gift” for our residents and I must say it is one of the most unique and unusual gifts we could ever provide. We recruit talent (sometimes questionable?) from our staff, our residents, the local school and community to perform an act which will be judged by a panel of “experts.” So if YOU are reading this right now, I REQUEST you call Traci at 785-883-4101 and sign up for this in-credible event. YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS IT!! Also, if you know of someone who might be interested, please tell them to give us a call. We already have several acts on board but we are look-ing for more. Talent or no talent, you are welcome to be in our Christmas Gong Show. It is outrageous AND fun. Hope to see you on the 18th!!
‘til next month,
Scott

Bill resides in Sunrise Assisted Living neighbor-
hood and Alta is a resident in the Meadowlark
neighborhood here at WRC. He was born Feb-
ruary 2, 1934; she, February 17, 1936 in/around
Stanberry, Missouri. The year Alta was born,
there was a snow storm and her father hooked
up the horses and took her mother to town to
deliver Alta; Bill was born on his family farm.
Bill and Alta were married May 2nd, 1954 and
raised 4 children; 3 daughters and 1 son. They
also fostered many other children. Bill and Alta
are grandparents to 13 and great grandparents
to 13.
The Beatys owned a grocery store in Troy, Kan-
sas for 20 years before getting into the barbeque
business. They would frequently deliver their bbq
to stores like Price Chopper, Hy-Vee and other
affiliates.
Their favorite holiday is Christmas. Spending
time with family and celebrating the Lord Jesus
Christ.
The Beatys traveled with their children to many
states and enjoyed their family time. Bill would
love to see Petra, a city in Jordan. Petra was
carved into the colorful sandstone cliffs perhaps
as early as the 5th century BC.
Welcome Bill and Alta to our WRC family!
Jackie is WRC’s night LPN. She resides in Paola.
Jackie has one son and one daughter; a grandson
and another grandchild on the way.
When she is not working, Jackie enjoys listening to
true crime and exploring abandoned houses. She is
a big fan of coffee as well.
Jackie would love to vacation in a cabin in the
mountains overlooking a lake. The cabin would be
large enough for her to have her family there as
well. Making memories and enjoying the beauty of
nature.
When asked her favorite part about working at
WRC, Jackie said it’s the family atmosphere. We
are glad to have you here!

A note from Jennifer Carpenter, Lifestyle Coordinator:
The year is just about over. It has been a good year, one filled with fun and excitement; a year where we have made new friends and lost friends. One where some of us needed encouragement, an ear to listen; a year we have needed a shoulder to lean on and arms to embrace us.
I’ve been so blessed to work with the volunteers at Wells-ville Retirement Community. Throughout the year our volun-teers have provided wonderful services to our residents. Here are some of the services our volunteers provide: The shoulder, the ear, the arms (I mentioned), worship services, devotions, bible study, music, table games, crafts, one to one visits, manicures, bingo, special treats, gifts, helping with outings, writing letters, being a pen pal, reading... The list goes on.
WRC volunteers are like Duracell batteries; they continue to give the precious gift of themselves.
I just want to thank you and remind you every contribution and service is invaluable. Your untiring efforts throughout the year are appreciated Our president said “Let’s make America great again”. I be-lieve America has always been great. Not only America but the world because of VOLUNTEERS like yourself. Your ea-gerness to reach out with a smile is special and wonderful. You all are very special people!!! THANK YOU for making WRC a great place to live.
