Christmas Advent greetings to you!
Ok, so I have to confess, it’s hard for me to resist the commercial enticement
during this time of the year. The “Christmas season,” which seems to start
even before Thanksgiving, brings so much excitement and festivity around
town, I can forget the season in the Church. It’s not actually Christmas yet, but
Advent. Advent. So… hmm. Ok, I get out the purple/pink candles at home and
am reminded every Sunday in Mass, how many weeks are left. But in my
mind, I am thinking about how many days until Christmas, not how many days
of Advent. Instead of just counting down the days until presents, I want to be
spending each day in conversion of my heart. Preparing myself to welcome
the Savior. I went to www.osv.com, searched for Advent, and found some
great articles on how to keep Advent front and center. Excerpts follow:
As we enter into the season of Advent, it is easy to get caught in the whirlwind
of Christmas preparations, whether shopping, baking, party planning or
somewhere in between. We know that Advent is a season of conversion for
the heart. Let’s spend more time this season praying and preparing our
hearts for Christ’s coming. Explore “Expecting a Miracle: Advent by the Nativi-
ty scene”, “The Definitive Guide to Advent”, the O Antiphons, Jesse Tree and
other resources to strengthen your Advent journey.
Join me as I challenge myself in the coming weeks, to keep Advent in the cen-
ter of my thoughts and prayers. Go to osv.com, or just google Advent, you’ll
have many ideas and suggestions for yourself and your family!
Yours in Christ,
Melissa Hill Garcia
