Defensive Driving Course Information You must register in advance and be on time. As a reminder, any person who drives a motor vehicle when his or her license is cancelled, suspended or revoked is in violation of S.C. Statute 56-1-460 and is subject to arrest; this includes driving to and from TTC campuses. The student should verify before enrolling (at www.scdmvonline.com) if you have a penalty points balance on your driving record for the credited points to be applied. Books included. Motorcycle Safety Course Information Student riders are required to bring the following riding gear items to class: above the ankle shoes, long pants, long-sleeve jacket or shirt, full-fingered gloves, eye protection (which can be normal glasses) and a 3/4 face or full face coverage DOT-approved motorcycle helmet. If you do not have your own helmet, we can provide one for your use. Motorcycle Basic Rider (BRC) This course is for both the inexperienced rider and for the more experienced rider needing the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Certification, and teaches the basic techniques of safely riding a motorcycle. The course meets South Carolina law for an insurance discount, so please contact your insurance company to verify your eligibility. Note: Students must complete an online e-course and, later in the class, a riding assessment to receive the Motorcycle Safety Foundation card. The new e-course replaces the Friday evening classroom and must be taken prior to the Saturday and Sunday sessions on any computer from registration time to Friday. The printed certificate of completion must be presented Saturday morning upon reporting to class. Practical Application Riding: Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; class riding time may vary due to weather conditions and level of enrollment. Training bikes are provided; however, more experienced riders may bring their street legal, registered and insured personal bikes for use in the course. Students with a S.C. learner’s permit who successfully complete this MSF course qualify for a S.C. Motorcycle License Endorsement. Please note: You must complete the required e-course prior to reporting to class on Saturday morning. The e-course can be taken on any computer and takes about three hours to complete. After registration, a separate email will be sent to you containing the link and code to enter. Once you have completed the e-course, print a hard copy of the completion certificate and present it to the rider coaches who are teaching your class. Prerequisite: Motorcycle Basic Rider (BRC) enrollees must be eligible for a driver’s license and able to ride a bicycle. Note: The weekday course and weekend course each have the same criteria. The only difference between the two courses is the class location: weekend course is held at Trident Technical College’s Main Campus in North Charleston; weekday course is held at the Naval Weapons Station range at Joint Base Charleston. The weekday course is designed for those who prefer the later start class hours and convenience of a weekday format. Books included. The Motorcycle License Waiver (3PT) course is for individuals with a S.C. Motorcycle Learner’s Permit who successfully complete the Motorcycle Basic Rider (BRC). Participants successfully completing this test within 14 days of the completed BRC course earn a SC DMV Motorcycle License Waiver to be presented to their local DMV to receive a license. The class runs most every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Testing time slots will be prescheduled upon the conclusion of the previous BRC course and students must be pre-enrolled for the test on one of the two following Saturdays. The test must be scheduled within 14 calendar days after but not prior to successful completion of the BRC course for the license waiver to be accepted by the DMV. Students can test on the motorcycle on which they took the BRC course. However, at the presentation of waiver papers to the DMV for the license, if recalled by the DMV for a re-test, you may be asked by the DMV to have a motorcycle available for that appointment. The Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair course is for the rider who wants to add years to their bike and keep it trouble-free while saving a lot of money on repairs. A top notch mechanic teaches valuable tips and techniques.
