Instead of doing a "Rotary Day", the Rotary club of Front Royal decided to do a “Rotary Weekend”. The weekend began on Friday evening, December 5, with a Christmas themed club meeting/party. Rotarians, their spouses, children and grandchildren along with guests from the Rotary Club of Linden enjoyed a Christmas party with entertainment by the Randolph Macon Academy Chorus and a special appearance by Santa Claus. Saturday was full of activities all day long. It started off with Rotarians and Interactors manning the Salvation Army kettles at the local Walmart. Over $3,000 was raised in just eight hours. Meanwhile other Rotarians we're putting together boxes of food for the Doc Smith Christmas baskets for those in need. Our club Rotarians delivered over 150 baskets in the community that afternoon. Meanwhile other Rotarians were filling hundreds of yellow and blue balloons with the Rotary logo on them in preparation to hand out from our float in the Front Royal Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. The Rotary float, which led the parade, represented the many services and contributions that our local Rotary makes to Front Royal community. Our float won first place for community spirit. It was a great weekend, for Rotary awareness. Over 70% of the club membership participated in some or all of the Rotary Weekend events.
