From the Desk of Father Pauselli

In last week’s bulletin, I thanked the O’Brien’s for taking a parish leadership role in the 2015 Diocesan Annual Appeal. I

called Mrs. O’Brien Melissa and it should have been Michelle. Once again, I am grateful to them for accepting this leadership

role in the 2015 Diocesan Annual Appeal.

The Religious Education Program for the 2015/2016 will begin this weekend. I thank Mr. Banull for his leadership role in this

program and all of our good people who assist in this most important work. Each year it is always our goal to have a quality

religious education program for our young people and I know that will be the case for this year as well.

Did you hear about the Bishop who hired a secretary who had worked for the Pentagon? She immediately changed his filing system to ―Sacred‖ and ―Top Sacred.‖

Have a great week!

Religious Education / Life Long Faith Formation (Advent and Lent Bible Study) / Vacation Bible School / RCIA /

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

THE WORD IS THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD THROUGH SCRIPTURE, THE FOUNDATION UPON WHICH WE CAN CONTINUE TO BUILD OUR FAITH.

Religious Education Registration Available Now!

The 2015-2016 Religious Education Program is HERE! Registration forms can also be picked up in the parish office

during normal business hours or on our parish website. Please register as soon as possible. Registrations received after

September 27, 2015 will be assessed a late fee. If you have a child in catholic school in 2nd, 6th or 7th grade who will

be preparing for a sacrament please inform Brittain Banull at the Parish Office. Religious Education Classes will resume

on Sunday, September 13, 2015. Thank you to all the parents who have already registered for the program.

Catechetical Sunday

Next weekend our parish will join with parishes throughout the diocese and the country to celebrate Catechetical Sun-

day. At 11:00 AM Mass we will recognize all those involved in handing on the faith to children, youth and adults in our

parish. Catechetical Sunday reminds each of us that in Baptism we are charged with the responsibility of handing on

and witnessing to the faith in all we do. Our catechetical programs help us to fulfill that responsibility by presenting our

faith in a systematic way. Please keep all of our catechists in your prayers throughout this year.

Religious Education Help Needed!!!

Our Religious Education program is in need of teachers and aides. Religious Education Classes for grades 3 & 5 run on

Sundays from 9:00AM to 9:50AM for grade 1, 2 & 4 from 10:05AM to 10:55AM & grades 6 & 7 from 6:00PM to

7:30PM. If you are interested in one of these teacher or aide positions please contact Brittain Banull at the Parish Office

570-344-1724.

Interested In Becoming Catholic?

Try R.C.I.A. “The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults” The Catholic Church is always ready to welcome those who wish to become a part of its faith community. The faith

community of Divine Mercy Parish strives to reach out to anyone interested in exploring the possibility of becoming

Catholic. This is always done in a manner where there is no pressure or obligation placed on a person to actually become

Catholic. Anyone seeking answers to their faith life can enter into a process where they, along with many others, search

for God in a new and more meaningful way.

If you have felt the first stirrings of interest in discovering who Jesus is and what it means to be a Catholic, please con-

tact Brittain Banull at 344-1724 for more information.

Ministry Fair There will be a Ministry Fair the weekend of October 3rd and 4th following all Masses.

Participants will be given the opportunity to speak with members of each ministry to discern if you are being called to

minister to the needs of our parish community.

All baptized persons are called to share in the Church's mission through service in parish ministries. The manner and

degree of engagement to this call differ, depending on the gifts we have been given by the Holy Spirit. We are all

called to transform the world by living out our baptismal vocation, being and becoming the Body of Christ in the

world, and advancing the Kingdom of God amidst the pressing demands of marriage, family, school and workplace.

The people of Divine Mercy Parish have been abundantly blessed with many gifts and talents. Please consider using

them to better our parish.

The ministry of lector calls us to be servants of the Living Word of God. In proclaiming the readings at the Sacred Liturgy, the lector does more than simply read. A lector's spirituality must include an understanding of sacred Scripture as God's Living Word made present to hu-mankind throughout history, but most fully present in the person of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. This ministry is a charism for the building up of the community. It requires some natural abilities such as the skill for developing proper proclaiming techniques, reading skills, and a clear and steady voice. While all of these are necessary and being comfortable with public speaking is an important element of the ministry, it does not by itself render someone fit for the role of lector since the purpose of this important ministry is to celebrate the faith shared by the gathered assembly. The rule of Saint Benedict reminds us, “anyone can read Scripture in public; only a believer can proclaim them.”

What is

the Ministry of Lector?
