– Dubai 2016), the 8th Asia Africa conference of the World Federation of Societies of

Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM), 12th International Pan Arab Critical

Care Medicine Society Conference (IPACCMS), the 3rd Middle East Surviving Sepsis

Campaign Meeting and 2nd Global Sepsis Alliance - Middle East Awareness Day

CME Accreditation:This Conference is CME accredited, 18 CME Hours from MOH/ 25 CME Hours from The IPACCMS.CME Certificates will be obtained starting April 30th, 2016,through the Conference website: www.eccc-dubai.comDelegates should log in using the registration number on yourdelegate badge. The deadline to receive your Certificates isJune 30th, 2016.

Food & Beverage:Coffee breaks will be open to registered delegates.Meals will be offered against daily vouchers provided with thedelegate badges.

Hotel information:The hotel also offers a variety of all-day dining restaurants tochoose from. There is an ATM machine conveniently located in the hotel in-between the InterContinental Hotel and the Conference venue.There are several banks and ATM machines located in theshopping mall attached to the hotel.

The Conference venue is a non-smoking venue. Participantsare requested to visit designated smoking corners when smok-ing is desired.

4 years of residency program in medicine and neurology between 1997 until2001 in department of health in Dubai. I was under supervision of Dr JihadInshasi and Dr. Mohammed Saadah. In addition, I was trained for two yearsin medicine. Completed Canadian royal college in neurology (FRCPC) in2009.

I had my residency in university of Toronto which is ranked number 1 inCanada by royal college of Canada, and ranked number 4 in whole NorthAmerica by American Academy on Neurology. We do see approximately1000 cases of acute stroke annually which is the largest number in Canada.I was personally involved in regional stroke program and I was involved inat least 500 stroke cases and 80 tpa cases. By finishing the residency I was able comfortably tomanage neurological cases as general neurologist in June 2007. Mohammed is a consultant emergency & crit-ical care physician, & an assistant professorof emergency medicine. He has just recentlyjoined the Maternity & Children Hospital inDammam as the unit head of the adult ICU.He received his MD with honors from KingFaisal University (Dammam, KSA) in 1999,

followed by the Emergency Medicine specialty with first honors from theRiyadh Armed Forces Hospital (Riyadh, KSA) in 2005. He then finished hisCritical Care Medicine subspecialty from the University of Western Ontarioin 2009 (London, ON, Canada). Following a Master in Applied Physics(Portsmouth) and a brief period in industry,Guillaume started his career in academia atthe University of Hertfordshire’s (UH) Schoolof Electronic, Communication, and ElectricalEngineering in 2000 as a researcher on aproject funded by the British Heart Foundation

to develop patient simulation technology for use in healthcare education.Very rapidly Guillaume started demonstrating fellow academics that man-nequins and computer controlled patient simulators could be used in a dif-ferent manner with learners to observe critical thinking, decision making,and the application of clinical skills in a more autonomous manner than pre-viously dared with students. With this approach Guillaume embarked in mul-tiple simulation-based educational activities across a range of disciplineswith undergraduate students as well as in collaboration with local NHSTrusts for the training of junior doctors in the large clinical simulation that

he designed and directed at UH for interprofessional activities. Guillaumeis regularly invited to run courses and workshops to educators from otherinstitutions, has various journal editorial responsibilities, and leading rolesin the international simulation community. The visibility of his activitiesgranted Guillaume the award of a National Teaching Fellowship in 2006, aSenior Fellowship in 2009 from the Higher Education Academy (UK), and afull tenure professorship in 2011. Whilst still affiliated to UH, where he com-pleted his PhD in healthcare simulation-based education and PgCert teach-ing qualification in Higher Education, he is now based in Qatar working asDirector of Research for Hamad Medical Corporation Ambulance Service(HMCAS). In this role he has actively led and contributed to a large numberof innovative projects on a broad range of domains across other HMC de-partments, including: simulation train the trainer; paramedic training; highacuity patient transport, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, and MajorIncident Response.

Dr Ahmed E. Badr, MD, is the Chair of the De-partment of Anaesthesiology for the AlleghenyHealth Network (Pittsburgh, PA, USA).

Dr Badr has held many high level positionsprior to joining AHN including of the Paul L.Foster School of Medicine Department of

Anesthesiology, Clinical Director of the Neuro-science Center and Medical Director of Perioperative Services at the Uni-versity Medical Center. He has authored or co-authored more than 100

Dr. Dana Bakdach was graduated from QatarUniversity, College of Pharmacy with an honorBachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in2012. She then completed her post-graduateDoctor of Pharmacy degree at Qatar Univer-sity in 2013 with the Head of the GraduatingClass distinction. Since then, Bakdach has

been practicing as a clinical pharmacist in the medical intensive care unit(MICU) at Hamad General Hospital (HGH). Meanwhile, she finished hercritical care traineeship with the American Society of Health-System Phar-macists (ASHP) and finished her On-site training at the University of Pitts-burgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Bakdach assisted the training of the post-graduate PharmD studentsduring her clinical expertise. She also assisted in delivering several educa-tional lectures to the undergraduate pharmacy program as part of the teach-ing curriculum.

Dr. Bakdach had couple of publications pertaining to pharmaceutical scienceand pharmacy practice. Her research interest is currently focused in inten-sive care managements and medication safety.

Dana is an integral part of the ECMO program; her knowledge and experi-ence in extracorporeal physiology and Drug-Patient interaction have beeninstrumental for the success of the ECMO program at HMC.

Dr Bhagwanjee is Professor in the Depart-ment of Anesthesiology at the University ofWashington Medical Center. His clinical expe-rience has been in Trauma, Surgical and Car-dio-thoracic intensive care and his researchinterests have been in outcome prediction inthe critically ill and the development of re-

gional mechanisms for critical care delivery. In this regard he proposed amodel for delivery of critical care in South Africa and established the SouthAfrican Critical Care Clinical Trials Group. More recently he formed, andleads, ACART group (Acute Care for Africa Research and Training). He hasreceived multiple awards for best research publications. His current researchactivity is in the implementation of an emergency preparedness care pro-gram for the WWAMI region of the USA and describing models for criticalcare delivery to low income countries. He has developed a Sepsis programfor LMIC and has adapted this program to assist with addressing the Ebolaoutbreak in West Africa.

He trained as an Anesthesiologist and Intensivist at the University of Natal,South Africa followed by a nine year appointment as Head of Departmentof Anesthesiology at the University of Witwatersrand. Dr. Bhagwanjee hasmultiple international affiliations and leadership positions. He served asPresident of the Critical Care Society of Southern Africa and he subse-quently received the Presidents’ Award of the same Society. In 2001 he waselected to the Council of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive andCritical Care Medicine and subsequently served as Secretary-General ofthis organization. He has been an advisor to the WHO for the managementof global sepsis outbreaks and epidemics. He was accepted as a memberof the AUA in 2010. In 2009 he was appointed to USCIIT and as AssociateDirector he is responsible for global outreach to international organizationsincluding the International Forum for Acute Care Trialists. In 2015, he alsoreceived an Honorary Fellowship (SCCM) from the American College ofCritical Care Medicine and was appointed Adjunct Professor in the Depart-ment of Global Health.

ice 2012-2014, including the development and implementation of new train-ing courses as the Senior manager for Education.

In 2013-2014 he was the lead Consultant CCP involved in the training andimplementation of ECMO transportation within HMC, helping with design ofthe transport vehicle, patient transport trolley and the ECMO transport sim-ulation programme. He developed and implemented a multidisciplinary train-ing programme to deliver a safe high acuity adult retrieval programmebetween the EMS and MICU consultants. He has been involved in a nu-merous ECMO retrievals within UK during training and in Qatar after the in-ception of the programme.

He is currently completing a Doctorate in Professional Practice in Organi-sational Change focusing on the role of leadership, multidisciplinary andteam practice and clinical effectiveness. Jean-Daniel Chiche is Full Professor of Criti-cal Care Medicine (Paris Descartes Univer-sity), currently working in the MedicalIntensive Care Unit of Cochin University Hos-pital in Paris. He graduated as MD in Paris,studied in Liège for 4 years (Belgium), and ob-tained a PhD after a 3-year research fellow-

ship at the Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School) inBoston. His clinical interest lies in the field of acute respiratory failure andsepsis. He also holds an appointment as Research Director at the Cochin

Shaheenah Dawood is a Consultant medicaloncologist and head of the medical oncologydepartment in Dubai Hospital in the UnitedArab Emirates. She trained in medical oncol-ogy at McGill University Hospitals in Canadaand subspecialized in breast cancer manage-ment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. During

her training she was awarded multiple scholar in training awards and ASCOmerit awards. She has served as an editorial fellow at the New England

Journal of medicine and has an MPH from the Harvard School of PublicHealth. Rolf Hartung was born in 1954 in Bonn-Ger-many. He started his medical studies in Bor-deaux-France in 1973 and graduated inBonn-Germany in 1979. His internship in Ar-gentina was followed by two years of PhD inhistopathology department of RWTH - Univer-sity Aachen-Germany. Hereafter he com-

pleted his residency training in general surgery in the surgical departmentof the university hospital Aachen and became Facharzt in general surgeryin 1987. He specialized in visceral and endoscopic surgery and subspecial-ized in visceral & digestive surgery in 1997. In 2009 he became Fellow ofthe Royal College of Surgeons of England and Fellow of the InternationalCollege of Surgeons of America, and in 2011 Fellow of the Royal Collegeof Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He worked for 16 years as headof consultants in EKM Hospital in Muelheim, an academic teaching hospitalof the University Duesseldorf-Germany. In 2003 Rolf Hartung became headof general surgery in Rashid Hospital Dubai. From 2006 till January 2014he was the head of the new general surgery department in Dubai Hospital.

In June 2013 he joined BR Medical Suites in Dubai Healthcare City as con-sultant general surgeon and Head od Department of Surgery and CBS inMediclinic City Hospital in Dubai Healthcare City. Rolf Hartung is assoc.professor of surgery in Dubai Medical College and was program director ofDubai Residency Training Program in general surgery until begin 2010. as the "best resident" at WCMC in 2007. In 2014, he was awarded “Theyoung clinician of the year for the middle east” by Arab Health and ClevelandClinic Foundation.

Dr. Fawzy areas of expertise are transport of critically ill patients, advancedhemodynamic monitoring and optimization, severe respiratory failure andECMO. He has established the Qatar severe respiratory failure – ECMOProgram in 2014 and is currently working on establishing the mobile ECMOprogram through simulation and training.

Ibrahim is a dedicated educator and as Assistant Professor at the WCMC-Q, he continues to contribute to medical students, residents and fellows ed-ucation, assessment and development.

to be the first and only unit of the hospital to be fully accredited for threeyears without any comments. She is a member of many pediatrics and pe-diatric intensive care national and international societies.

Dr Khathlan has special interest in the research ethics, and protection ofthe vulnerable groups; she recently completed writing the manual of con-ducting human subject’s research in KAUH. Dr Ahmed Labib is a senior Consultant Inten-sivist and Anaesthetist at the MICU-HGH,Doha. He joined HMC in December 2013. Heis a Fellow of the Royal college of Anaes-thetists and the Faculty of ICM, London.Ahmed is a core member of the SRF-ECMOteam.

Ahmed accomplished advanced speciality training in Anaesthesia and ICMin the UK where he worked and trained in large training institutions and uni-versity hospitals.

Doing research at St James’ University Hospital, Leeds- a regional centrefor liver disease and transplant, Ahmed studied extracorporeal liver supportin the form of single pass albumin dialysis (SPAD). Dr. Lumb’s clinical interests include cardiac anesthesia and critical caremedicine. He received his medical degree 1993, com-pleted his master’s degree 1998 and Philos-ophy of Doctorate 2008 in Anesthesiologyand Intensive Care at Tanta University Hospi-tal, Tanta, Egypt. He is an Assistant Professorof Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medi-cine.

Dr. Mady was awarded the Saudi Fellowship in Adult Critical Care Medicinefrom Saudi Commission for Health Specialties in Kingdom of Saudi Arabiaand also elected to fellowship in the American College of Chest Physician(ACCP).

Since 2008 he has been worked as fulltime Consultant Intensivist at KingSaud Medical City (1200beds) in Riyadh. He is a Supervisor of Educationaland Training Program for Physician and Fellowship Training Program of

Critical Care Department.

His Clinical research interests focus on “Hemodynamic Monitoring, Noso-comial Infection in Intensive Care, Panamedic 2009 H1N1 Influenza A,MERSCoV, Traumatic Brain Injury, haematological disorders in ICU andMechanical Ventilation. He supervised many theses in Anesthesiology andIntensive Care Medicine. Dr Mady has published many abstracts and orig-inal articles in regional and international journals. He has active participa-tions in many local and international conferences and has been awardedAl-Razi Award in the Emirates Critical Care Conference 2010 and awardedfirst place in International Congress of Saudi Critical care conference 2010.

Dr. Rabi’s first academic appointment was at the University of In-diana, as an associate professor of pediatrics and a pediatric critical care

attending within Riley Hospital for children, one of the most comprehensivechildren’s hospitals in the United States. he is Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Caremedicine. He was the founding president of the German Sepsis Society in2001 and became the founding chairman of the Global Sepsis Alliance in

2010. He was member of the Council of the World Federation of Societiesof Intensive & Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM) and is member of the In-ternational Sepsis Forum (ISF). As speaker of the public founded nation-wide German research network SepNet he initiated a number of largemulti-center randomized clinical trials on the efficacy and safety of new di-agnostic and therapeutic approaches in sepsis. His research activities inthe field of sepsis and intensive care medicine led to more than 750 peerreviewed publications and the Research Award of the Federal State ofThuringia/ Germany in 2008. Francesca Rubulotta obtained her MD withlaude and commendation at the University ofCatania. In 2002, she gained accreditation inAnesthesia at the University of Trieste andlater in 2004 she obtained her specialty in In-tensive Care Medicine (ICM) at the CatholicUniversity of Leuven. Her training in ICM took

place in the USA, the Netherlands, and in Belgium. She is currently workingin the UK as Consultant and Honorary Senior Clincial Lecturer in ICM andAnaesthesia at Imperial College, Charing Cross and St Mary’s Hospital inLondon. In 2012, she obtained her PhD at the University of Catania. Since2011 she is clinician for Anesthesia in Bariatric Surgery at Imperial College,international center of excellence. Dr Rubulotta is the Chair of the divisionof professional development (DPD) of the European Society of IntensiveCare Medicine (ESICM) since 2013. Dr Rubulotta is a member of the Euro-

Dr. Sung is the director of the division of Neu-rocritical Care and Stroke at the University ofSouthern California (USC) with joint appoint-ments in neurology and neurosurgery. Hegrew up in Minnesota and received his med-ical degree from the University of Minnesotaand was trained at the University of Maryland

and at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, which is where he received his first fac-ulty appointment and also completed a Masters in Public Health in Epidemi-ology.

Dr Ziegenfuss graduated from University ofthe Witwatersrand, South Africa in 1992. Hisearly post-graduate career was in the surgicalarena with predominant exposure to Trauma,General and Cardiac Surgery.

After completing his surgical fellowship in Lon-don, England in 1998 Dr Ziegenfuss moved to

Australia in 1999 to pursue an Intensive Care Fellowship. Having completedhis Intensive Care Fellowship in September 2002, he has worked as a Con-sultant at The Prince Charles Hospital since December 2002 – the largestacademic Cardiothoracic ICU in Australia. His special interests include ad-vanced extracorporeal circulatory support in all its forms, complex cardiores-piratory disease, resource rationing and Team management.

Dr Ziegenfuss finds the complexity and diversity of multi-organ illness in-teresting and challenging. He enjoys the necessity of a broad medical knowl-

edge, procedural skills and the use of advanced technology to achieve thebest outcomes for patients under the care of the ICU Team.

Dr Ziegenfuss thrives on helping others around him excel at their achieve-ments. He is focussed on raising the level of productivity of multidisciplinaryteams via education and by redefining medical practices through appropriateuse of technology and research. To this end he is extensively involved inthe implementation of clinical information systems across all of QueenslandHealth ICUs.
