It began with a security showcase in O’Neill’s offering information and top class equipment, some free of charge. The emphasis was on the community remaining alert to suspicious activity in their local area, and relaying it back to base via the Text Alert system. ‘Message in a Bottle’, a medical alert system for the elderly or infirm, was launched. Information and stickers available at Sharon Keogan’s office. Duleek’s Got Talent was a huge success! Congrats to the young participants, particularly winner Kelly McArdle (see inside). The Commemoration of The Wake of Brian Ború in Duleek Abbey was re- enacted Sunday. In 1014, High King of Ireland, Brian Ború was victorious over the Vikings at the Battle of Clontarf, however both Brian and his son were killed. His body was waked overnight in St Mary’s Abbey, as stipulated in his will, before burial in Armagh. Duleek Heritage Society members dressed in Celtic costume were joined by various groups acting out the king’s final journey. The Royal Procession assembled at Mill Hill and proceeded down Main Street to the Abbey. Light refreshments were then served in The Spire Restaurant. Duleek / Bellewstown GFC Inaugural Challenge, a Fun and Family Cycle saw 80 cyclists of all levels participate in aid of club funds. Cyclists had a choice of undertaking the 10k Family Cycle Event, the 75k Fun Cycle Event or the 85k Challenge Cycle Event. As well as the 80 cyclists, a large number of volunteers helped out as marshals and stewards at every junction, and a big thanks goes to them from organising team member Ian Cudden.
