A super time was had at Ashvale Court's Street Feast in June. Through fantastic community spirit, the estate had a great day, all sponsored and provided for free by the community. Featuring a giant marquee, a BBQ, loads of BBQ food, goodies, cakes, slush puppies, drinks, and music. There was no charge for showing up and it was an extremely successful opportunity for the community to meet up, chat, and get to know each other. Friendships were made or rekindled, community spirit was strengthened, new members of the community were introduced and kids played lots of games to beat the band! A fantastic example of community spirit at work.

Local members of Donore Scouts enjoyed a fantastic weekend at Jamoige in Limerick. The young scouts took part in plenty of activities and challenges, including dressing up as cultures from the past. Donore scouts are pictured here with their leaders as ancient Romans.

A replica of the last letter written by Patrick Pearse the day of his execution was one of the many exhibits of 1916 memorabilia displayed in Duleek Parish Centre at the recent Easter 1916 commemorations organised by Duleek Heritage Group.

Kept in safe-keeping by a Drogheda woman who received the letter from Patrick Pearses aunt, Jim Curley was proud to put it on display and read it out to the sizeable audience. Poems written by the other 1916 leaders were also read, and paintings of the heroes by Ben Ryan were also displayed. There was traditional Irish music and dancing by Comhaltas, as well as The Maguire Family and young Calum Agnew. Joan Dorey, whose uncle was Philip Clarke from Kellystown, Duleek and Monknewtown, Rossin, was shot in Stephens Green, Dublin, also spoke of her uncle.

Refreshments were served and all could relax and discuss their own personal connections with 1916 and the formation of our state.

This exhibition of 1916 memorabilia will be on show again in the courthouse during Duleek Fair Weekend, Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 August. Fiona Ahern from Bellewstown Heritage Group will give a talk on James McCormack, Julianstown, who was shot at the GPO, Dublin, during the Easter Rising. Michael Wymes will give a presentation on Duleeks Augustinian Abbey at the Fair.

A fundraiser in aid of a Miracle for David raised over 3,500 for a Cushinstown boy, adding to the amount raised through a Go Fund Me appeal. David was lucky enough to be released from hospital just days before the event took place.

David nearly 14 years old and was born with Cerebral Palsy and Global Developmental Delay. He is profoundly disabled and needs 24 hour care.

His mother Bernie has organised a fundraising campaign to make his life a bit easier and to improve the quality of his life. She needs to get a car suitable for transporting Davids wheelchair. A suitable second-hand vehicle will cost around 7,000.

David loves to go for a spin in the car, but since he is now a growing teenager, I can no longer lift him in and out of my old car, so hes now stuck in the house, explained Bernie, who lives outside Duleek.

.A 5k family walk/run in aid of A Miracle for David takes place on Sunday 24 July leaving

    Miracle for David

Cloghertown Utd FC pitch at 4pm. Entry is 10 for adults, children free. Participants are invited to a BBQ in Donnellys pub afterwards where an auction will take place. Items for auction would be much appreciated. Contact Bernie on 087-6609130.

    Whats On... Whats On...

FORIGE AWARDWell done to the young people and leaders in Duleek Forige for scooping second place (Silver Star) in a National Forige competition held in City West at the weekend. Up against stiff competition, the Youth Club scooped second place for the thorough planning, implementation and review of their hugely successful Community Breakfast and Family Fun Colour Run. This event was planned in an effort to raise community spirit, brighten lives, and bring smiles to peoples faces, following a spate of crimes in the locality earlier this year that had people on edge and fearful for their safety. Well done to all involved.
