Dutchman Doings January 6, 2017 FROM YOUR ACTIVITIES DEPARTMENT: I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. The decorations throughout our park were just beautiful and the volunteers did an excellent job of decorating the Patio, the Main Hall and the Saguaro Hall, so many sincere thanks to all of them! We’re now ready to start the new year with some great entertainment on Saturday, January 7th, with Saturday Night Fever, a tribute to the Bee Gees. This will be a great show so be sure to get your tickets before we sell out. We need an attendance of 200 to make these shows work, so please don’t wait until the last minute to buy your tickets. You may bring your own drinks and snacks if you choose. There will be a lot going on the next three months, so please be sure to read the Dutch- man Doings and keep an eye on the white board by the post office for any changes or updates for any events. 2017 will be a great and prosperous year for everyone, so let’s start enjoying it! FROM YOUR ACTIVITIES DEPARTMENT:

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. The decorations throughout our park were just

beautiful and the volunteers did an excellent job of decorating the Patio, the Main Hall and

the Saguaro Hall, so many sincere thanks to all of them!

We’re now ready to start the new year with some great entertainment on Saturday,

January 7th, with Saturday Night Fever, a tribute to the Bee Gees. This will be a great show

so be sure to get your tickets before we sell out. We need an attendance of 200 to make

these shows work, so please don’t wait until the last minute to buy your tickets. You may

bring your own drinks and snacks if you choose.

There will be a lot going on the next three months, so please be sure to read the Dutch-

man Doings and keep an eye on the white board by the post office for any changes or updates

for any events.

2017 will be a great and prosperous year for everyone, so let’s start enjoying it!

FROM THE DESK OF YOUR MANAGERS:

Happy New Year to all of you! The new year rang itself in kind

of wet and cold, didn’t it? We are grateful that so many of you have

returned safely back to your Arizona home.

There have been a few inquiries about when the park will be

doing another photo directory. We are looking at next fall and win-

ter season (2017/2018) to begin this project and will send updates as

we have more information.

We have been researching plastic recycling companies that

would collect & recycle plastic products for us in the retention area.

The previous company that we used, discontinued this service. Please

place only cardboard & paper in their appropriate dumpsters.

Jerry is glad to answer your questions regarding improvements

to your property, so feel free to stop him or come by the office &

we’ll get your info and forward to him to contact you.

Enjoy your Arizona winter!

Lost Dutchman

residents dramatize

‘The Greatest Story

Ever Told’ as part of

special Christmas Eve

service by Mary Ellen Reinke resident profiler

P ASTOR CORNELIA GREEN had the vi-

sion: tell the familiar story of Jesus Christ’s lowly birth through a Christmas Eve Pageant featuring Lost Dutchman residents as Mary & Joseph, the angel who brought the news to the shepherds and the 3 wise men who came from afar.

When Pastor Cornelia first shared her idea with choir and church council members in De-cember 2015, she found volunteers who were willing to help her carry it out. Helen Busick, 585 Geronimo, agreed to help “bring the story to life.” She would contact chapel-goers who would be willing to act out the roles of the cast of char-acters and she would create appropriate cos-tumes for them to wear. She found volunteers to set up Christmas punch and cookies for all to share after the Christmas Eve Chapel Service.

That first Christmas Eve program was such a success that it has become a TRADITION here at Lost Dutchman RV Resort. In spite of the fact that it was raining hard as residents assem-bled in the Main Hall on Saturday, December 24, 2016, for the 4 p.m. service, nearly every seat was filled. [About 250, according to Dave

Mortenson, chapel VP, 135 South.]

Special music was provided by Wes & Barb Reed, 268 Apache, who did a prelude of Christmas music and accompanied the traditional carols that were sung by the congregation.

Pastors Cornelia & David Green’s Christ-mas Greetings included cards & candy canes given to each participant, along with the Christ-mas program, hymnals and vesper candles by the ushers as they were seated. The pastors opened the service with prayers and scripture reading of Isaiah 9:6. Pastor Cornelia’s special reading “I’m Spending Christmas with Jesus Christ This Year” reminded the congregation that those we’ve lost this past year are having their best Christmas ever in Heaven with Jesus. Chapel Choir director Bob Howard’s (496 Eagle) Prayer of Thanksgiving reminded all of how much we have to be thankful for at this time of the year.

Anita Hildebrandt’s “Who is Santa Claus?”—a repeat of the well-received special reading she did last year let chapel-goers know that the iconic man in the red suit didn’t always represent commercialism.

In scene 1 of the skit of the Birth of Jesus Christ Deb & Gary Damborg . 166 Jojoba, played Mary & Joseph as they laid the newborn Baby Jesus in the manger and the congregation sang “What Child is This?” and “Away In a Man-ger.”

In scene 2 Linda Busick , 126 Kachina, was the angel sharing the good news of the Sav-ior’s birth with shepherd Chuck Busick as the group sang “The First Noel” and “Go T?ell It On the Mountain.”

In scene 3 Wise Men Stan Schoonover, 466 Desert, Chuck Bauer, 75 Navajo, and Wayne Busick, 585 Geronimo, brought gifts to the babe in the manger as the congregation sang “We Three Kings” and “O Little Town of Bethle-hem.”

Candles were lit for a moving rendition of everyone’s favorite “Silent ˜Night” followed by the “Joy To the World” finale.

Thanks to Liz Bauer, 75 Navajo, & Anita Hildebrandt. 680 Ironwood, and many volun-teers who donated cookies there were refresh-ments and fellowship to be shared by all.

“It’s a holiday tradition we hope to continue,” said Helen,” with a little tweaking each year.”

HIPPIE 50’S PARTY

This year our 7th annual 50’s dance party will be held Monday, Feb 6 from 7 to

10 pm in the Main Hall. Tickets are now on sale from Ron Hall 534F or Diane McNal-lan 576G for $5. The pulled pork lunch will again be served before the dance party starting at 6 pm payable at the door for $5. For those new to the park who aren’t fa-miliar with this event, we start at 2 pm decorating the main hall with 50’s décor. Any-one is welcome to come join in the fun to create the 50’s mood. We changed it up a little this year in adding “hippie” to the agenda. So we’ll also put in some of the “hippie” décor. For the dance party come in style with either a 50’s or hippie era outfit (costume is optional) and we’ll go back to our younger days. Ron and Diane will spin your favorite tunes while you rock n roll.

Prizes will be drawn with your ticket stubs.

From the Dance Committee
