    A. Summary of the Lesson Plan:Students will discuss what a producer is. Students will make a list of producers in our

    community.

    B. Target Population: Grade Level: 2nd grade Skill Level: All levels Grouping:

    C. Materials: White board and markers Producer worksheet and pencils

    E9.2.3 Identify producers in your neighborhood and community.o Student-Friendly Standards

    I can identify producers in our community.E. Procedure:

    1. Review from yesterday what goods and services are.2. Make two lists on the board: Goods and Services. And record the students ideas.3. Tell students that workers who provide goods and services are called producers.4. Tell students that producers use resources to make goods or provide services. There are

    three types of resources. These are natural, human, and capital.

    5. Explain that natural resources are gifts of nature that are untouched by human hands;they can be used to produce goods we want. Ask students for examples of natural

    resources. Write the responses on the board. [sunlight, tree, land, coal, oil, water]

    6. Explain that human resources, also called labor, are the people who do the work. Askstudents to identify some human resources in the school. Write the responses on the

    board. [teacher, librarian, principal, secretary, custodian, cafeteria worker]

    7. Define capital resources as goods made by people and used to make other goods orto provide services. Tell students that a hammer is a capital resource. Ask them to

    provide other examples of capital resources they use in the classroom each day.

    Write the responses on the board. [pencils, scissors, table, chair]

    8. Assign the students to work in pairs. Give each group a picture worksheet and havethem locate examples of natural, human, and capital resources.

    9. The students will also identify who the producer is in the picture.10.Have the students list 5 producers in our community.11.CLOSURE: Today we learned what a producer is. We learned that there are three

    types of resources. These are natural, human, and capital.

    F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

    Students will identify producers in our community.

    Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.I will know that the students understand the concept of producers in our community by

    assessing their picture worksheet.

    G. Reflection:1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?

    I believe that student will be able to understand what producers are. So I feel that

    this will be the easiest part of the lesson to teach. I also think that the students will

    enjoy working together with a partner in listing the different resources in their

    picture.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?I think that teaching the students the different types of resources will be the most

    challenging part of this lesson. I am not sure that all of the students will understand

    the differences between the three. I think using real world examples will help in the

    process.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?Read the story Roxaboxen, written by Alice McLerran, illustrated by Barbara

    Cooney Published by HarperCollins (April 22, 1991). Ask students to create their own

    name for a community and have each one think of a good or a service he or she

    could provide to community members.

    I will spend more one on one time with students that do not grasp the concepts.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?It might help to bring in pictures of the different types of resources so that thestudents can make real world connections.

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?I always have a difficult time coming up with ideas on how to teach the topic.
