Why must students use technology? There can be infinite uses of the computer and of new age technology, but if teachers themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails. -Nancy KassebaumTeaching in the Internet age means we must teach tomorrows skills today. Jennifer FlemingTeachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewingit as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event. Heidi-Hayes JacobsWe need technology in every classroom and in every student and teachers hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world. David WarlickEducation is evolving due to the impact of the Internet. We cannot teach our students in the same manner in which we were taught. Change is necessary to engage students not in the curriculum we are responsible for teaching, but in school. Period. AL Course of Study: TechnologyThe Alabama Course of Study: Technology Education defines the minimum required content that students should know and be able to do to learn effectively and live productively in an increasingly digital world. The technology content standards are organized into six distinct strandsTechnology Operations and Concepts; Digital Citizenship; Research and Information Fluency; Communication and Collaboration; Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making; and Creativity and Innovation.Content standards build on each succeeding grade level, eliminating repetition from one grade or course to another. The standards address each level of instruction with an increase in depth and rigor from the primary grades through high school. This curriculum, when combined with effective instruction, enables students to achieve the overall goal for technology education in Alabama, technology fluency.
