Kathy Wicksteed is the National Subject Lead for languages for the ALL/CfBT programme of support for the new secondary curriculum, and is a former President of the Association for Language Learning. Do Coyle is Professor in Learning Innovation at the School of Education, King's College, Aberdeen. She is an international expert in CLIL and has developed theoretical frameworks for training teachers in CLIL. She sits on advisory panels at local, regional, national and international levels. PRIMARY STRAND Philip Hood has worked in both primary and secondary CLIL contexts for over ten years, teaching primary age children and offering specific ITE and CPD. He coordinates a Masters level course in CLIL at Nottingham University. Kristina Tobutt has taught French and German to primary and secondary learners, using both language teaching and CLIL approaches. She has presented sessions at the Primary Languages Show on the integration of French into the EYFS curriculum and is the main author of the cross-curricular resource pack, A La Francaise. John Sly works for West Berkshire LA, overseeing the primary language coordinators, providing a training program and producing resources. He has produced a module of work on tropical rainforests for Y5/6 and is currently developing modules and training to integrate language learning into aspects of creativity and performance in PE, Dance and Music. SECONDARY STRAND Mike Ullmann is director of the Languages Specialism at Hockerill Anglo-European College and a former Guardian Teacher of the Year. One of the pioneers of CLIL teaching in the UK, he was instrumental in establishing a French ‘bilingual section’ more than fifteen years ago in order to raise motivation and achievement. This move was a key factor in the transformation of the school from underachieving to outstanding. Katie Lee, Director of Specialism at The Willink, has been working for ten years in secondary language teaching by immersion. She will be reporting with colleagues from the Y7 team, on their first steps in Content and Language Integrated Learning. They have worked with the Universities of Nottingham and Aberdeen to plan and teach a CLIL module across Y7. The project model incorporates learner and teacher reflection as well as creative use of ICT. HEI STRAND Patricia Bertaux is a language trainer and international officer at the IUFM de Lorraine, Université Henri Poincaré Nancy 1. She has been involved in initial training courses for CLIL, including school placements abroad, for over ten years. She is currently working on CLIL professional development within the European CLIL Cascade Network. She is also the national coordinator for France of the Anglo-French initial training exchanges. Suzanne Graham, Senior Lecturer in Language and Education, is Subject Leader for the PGCE in MFL at the University of Reading. She has researched and published widely in the area of motivation in language learning and is the University-based CLIL Practitioner for the University's Secondary Language Exchange Programme.
