Prayers for the Sick and Dying The Divine Mercy Chaplet is one of the best means of assisting the dying. Jesus revealed the power of this prayer to St. Faustina. The Lord gave many promises regarding recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet for the sick and/or dying.

There are parishioners who regularly pray the chaplet. We have a prayer chain and are accepting prayer requests.

If you are interested in joining the prayer chain, please contact Bea Harrigan at (973) 827-0083. If you have a special prayer request, or prayers for a loved one who is sick and/or dying, you may call Bea Harrigan, Cheryl Avery at (973) 702-1342, or Denise Drogo at (973) 875-6863.

News: A Summer Addi on . . . My name is Stephen Delia Jr, and I am very excited to be assigned to St. Francis de Sales for my summer pastoral internship. I grew up in Long Hill, NJ, which is locat-ed in southern Morris County. There, I was homeschooled from second grade all the way through high school. During that me, I was also very involved in the Boy Scouts, where I eventually earned the Rank of Eagle. A er gradua ng high school, I enrolled at the New Jersey Ins tute of Technology, where I began studying for a degree in mechanical engineering. All this me however, I was discerning a voca-

on to the diocesan priesthood as well. A er two years of studying engineering, I decided that God was calling me to enter seminary at that me. I then began my seminary studies, becom-ing a member of the College Seminary of St. Andrews, located at Seton Hall. In my two years in the college seminary, I studied mostly philosophy, and some entry level theology. St. Andrews was for me a great place for growing in character, and forming many great and las ng friendships. A er comple ng college seminary studies, I was sent to begin the theological phase of seminary study. For this, I was sent to the North Ameri-can College located in Rome. There I currently study Theology under priests of the Order of St Dominic (the Dominicans). I greatly enjoy these studies, and feel they are benefi ng my forma on greatly.

Life In seminary for me is a wonderful experience. I have the opportunity to study more about God, His great love for us, and His saving involvement in our lives. I am ensured ample me to pray, and I am afford-ed great opportuni es for spending me with the other members of my community. All of these things are for me a great joy. Addi onally, being in Europe for my studies has afforded me the wonderful opportunity to visit many of the Holy Sites of the Catholic Church, as well as the ability to encounter the Catholic Faith as it is lived out in other cultures. I am excited to be with you all this summer, and look forward to mee ng you all, and experiencing parish life as it is lived out here at St. Francis de Sales Parish.

Yours In Christ, Steve Delia.

SAINT JUNÍPERO SERRA (1713-1784) July 1

No one who has stood before the quiet majesty of Mission San Juan Capistrano, or the altogether different but no less lovely Mission Dolores in San Francisco, or any of the missions from San Diego to Sonoma can fail to bless the Franciscan padre who, while not founder of each, was inspiration for them all, Saint Junípero Serra. Abandoning the comfortable academic life to which his doctorate in theology entitled him, Serra journeyed to the New World where his tireless traveling, dramatic preaching, and penitential austerity converted thousands of native peoples. Saving souls and celebrating the sacraments were Padre Serra’s primary mission but not his only one. Education in letters and crafts, trades and agriculture transformed the people, while roads and irrigation systems transfigured the landscape. His more than thirty years of ministry were not free from conflict with authorities or without controversy in the retrospectively critical eye of history. But when John Paul II beatified him in 1988, he praised Padre Serra for assisting his converts to use their new faith to advance their true human development. - Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. To All of our Graduates, Graduation is a time for reflecting on God’s gifts to us and for gratitude for all that He does for us. Heavenly Father, look on these graduates with Your Love and bless them as they leave school to move forward in life. May Your Spirit give them many talents and skills and help them to use them for your glory and for the good of all people. Amen.
