DEALER APPRECIATION

I would like to personally thank Steve Minghenelli, owner of Dylan's RV located in Sewell, New Jersey, for his gracious donation to our chapter, the New Jersey Garden Aires. Not only did he donate money he also donated shirts, backpacks, and other goodies stuffed in our bags. Steve went out of his way to get us a place for dinner and sent his service manager Christian to talk about maintenance, he also sent his customer service coordinator Autumn to make sure everything went as planned. Autumn was also responsible for getting us the shirts and goodie backpacks and some much needed Newmar Flags. It was also nice to know Dylan's was well represented. Three of our twelve coaches were purchased at his wonderful dealership. Christian offered anyone at our rally who had a problem with their coach immediate service. I cannot say

enough about Dylan's RV and wish other dealers would follow his fine example. Thanks again from all of us.

Thomas and Lynn Gingerelli (21978)President New Jersey Garden Aires

11FEBRUARY / MARCH 2019 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

Greetings from Nappanee! 2018 went by incredibly fast, and I expect nothing different for 2019. We are into January and so far we have had a mild winter in Northern Indiana. I would be happy if the mild weather continued into spring! I hope your holidays were enjoyable and healthy, and you were able to spend quality time with family and friends, maybe even while using your Newmar.

Thank you for your support of the Kountry Klub and Newmar Corporation. We appreciate and thank all of the Klub leadership, directors, chapter officers, rally hosts, volunteers, and everyone that helps to drive the Klub. As always, this includes Linda Feece and DeAnn LaMaine in the Klub office in Nappanee who do a great job supporting the organization.

In a time when many RV manufacturer owner clubs are shrinking in size or closing, the Kountry Klub has continued to grow. New memberships grew by 10% in 2018, on top of the growth for the last few years. The growth of the Klub is a real credit to the leadership at all levels and our members living the Klub experience.

Bob and Bonnie Krieger have decided to make 2019 their last year as the International Directors of the Kountry Klub. I have truly enjoyed working with Bob and Bonnie for the years they have been in the Klub, and am looking forward to working with them this year. Their passion, dedication, commitment, efforts, experience, and leadership for the Newmar Kountry Klub have been great and they will be very difficult to replace. If you have interest as a candidate for the International Director position, please find the details in this edition.

Newmar continued to be very blessed in 2018. We always have our challenges and opportunities, but it is a blessing to be able to work with the Newmar team, which now numbers over 1,000 people.

Here are a few highlights from 2018:-started operations in our new Paint Building expansion in January, 2018.-increased our production rate twice, and are currently building 55 coaches per week. -continue to implement process improvements internally and with suppliers to improve product quality and reliability -construction and startup of the state of the art expanded Newmar Service Facility in Nappanee. I believe the results of this project show Newmar’s commitment to our customers, and am sure you will agree if you have the opportunity to visit us in Nappanee. The overnight service park, reserved exclusively for service appointments, will be completed in the spring. -continued to change manufacturing department layouts to improve safety, process quality, material flow, add new processes to support new product features, and increase capacity. -very recent addition of 2 large mezzanines in our main assembly facility Looking ahead into 2019, we have many projects in process to enable us to further enhance and grow the Newmar Plant Tour experience in Nappanee. We feel that highlighting more of our manufacturing process through a more comprehensive plant tour will help us further demonstrate “When You Know The Difference.” Look for more details in the spring.

As this is written I look forward to seeing many of you at the Tampa Supershow Rally in mid-January and in Syracuse for the Kountry Klub’s 2019 International Rally in the fall.

God Bless, and Safe Travels!

Did your New Year enter with a BANG?? A new and different outlook?? It sure did for me and continues “as I type this” article for you. No, my friends it is not my location, or a lovely rally, or a new hair do…..it is learning to be a one hand, one finger typist!! This will be the shortest article I ever start!! On New Year’s Day, totally due to “Operator Error”, I fell and fractured my left wrist...UGH! Surgery has been done to correct all the damage with various and asunder screws, plates, and what not to get the bones and nerves properly back in their place. Jeeeezzzeee!! My dogs are so disturbed...no walks for a bit. Intensive rehab starts just 2 weeks post op. What did I learn?? DO NOT walk 3 dogs, take a phone call, talk to a neighbor and chew gum all at the same time!! What will I gain?? After rehab, a stronger left jab to match my right hook! Thank you for all the get well wishes!

On with the shortest article I will ever write with my one good right hand…

This will be an exciting New Year in 2019. Sure do hope that you have started the New Year off in the right direction and have marvelous Valentine plans with your loved ones. For the Kountry Klub in 2019, we have new adventures, new web site, new members, new rally sites, new refreshing ideas, and new Klub officers. Stay tuned and stay connected and stay informed!

With the new web site, we hope we have made it more user friendly, made it easier to navigate and more up to date. Many of our chapters, regions, provinces are posting news and photos on face book and we hope to get some of that on the web site. Our fast growing membership needs to be informed about our events and gatherings. Our members need to know that every single one is very important to us.

Looking at the calendar on the wall we just realized that we are entering our 5th year as International Directors! How the heck did that happen? It is true…things moves faster when you are having fun. We do apologize for hogging all that fun! The time has come when we need to step aside and allow others to plan some of these great events for all of our marvelous NKK members.

We want you to know that this will be the final year that we will serve as International Directors for the Newmar Kountry Klub.

HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENINGBob & Bonnie Krieger (12508-L), International Directors

Linda Feece, Klub Coordinator • DeAnn LaMaine, Office Assistant

We want you to know how much we have enjoyed what we have been doing for the past 4 years. We want you to know that we have enjoyed the fun, fellowship and FOOD and music that we have shared with you, our Directors and MAL’s, and members. We know that this kind of fun is hard to find nowadays. As you know, when we all spend these special times together, we become one extended family. We will long treasure those hours and our times spent together as wonderful gatherings. We have shared all of the above: big dinners, loving conversations, huge hugs, fond memories with laughter and tears and have enjoyed each and every moment! But not to worry – we have one more year of this exciting journey – so Rally On – let’s make this a great year!

There will be more information about the application process for International Director in the Happenings and within this issue on page 5 as well as a time line to follow as we proceed. During orientation, the newly appointed ID will work with us as we continue the planning for our 34th International Newmar Kountry Klub rally in Syracuse, New York and in planning for the next International Rally.

And now, a few words about our recent journeys – We attended the North Carolina/South Carolina Christmas rally at the beach and had a great time. Myrtle Beach is always fun to visit – great entertainment, great restaurants, and great shopping – when you put that all together, with great Newmar friends, you have a winning combination! Unfortunately, our journey was delayed for several days by a snowstorm that dropped 6 inches near Roanoke Rapids in North Carolina - the main slide would not come in for several days because of a 4 inch block of ice on top. The two accompanying photos show snow in NC on the way to Myrtle Beach and yet about 100 miles further down the road

the weather was great and scenery spectacular…. the Reason for the Season!

We will be opening registration for our Albuquerque Balloon Festival event February 4th – we have 25 sites available this year! Unfortunately, that event starts right after the International in Syracuse so it makes it difficult to attend both since it is about a 3 day drive between the two events. There are several vacancies still left for the Newfoundland/Maritimes caravan but Alaska is sold out. Contact Linda in the office to be put on a waiting list if you are interested in Alaska.

Our special events and caravans are very popular and sell out quickly. We are in the process of adding new, experienced host couples to our cadre of guides and will soon be announcing new events – stay tuned!

We will see you down the road….safe travels!

13FEBRUARY / MARCH 2019 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

In a blink another year is gone, it’s hard to believe that it is 2019, and spring is right around the corner - or at least we hope it is. We wonder what this New Year will bring, and all the adventures we will experience. So far there are over 60 rallies,

luncheons, breakfast, and special event listed on the Newmar Kountry Klub calendar. So many opportunities for meeting up, sharing experiences, creating lifelong friendships and learning. So grab your calendar, a pen and a map, and start planning your travels. Or just flip a coin and head out. Those Newmar RV’s love to be used, and just think of all the fun you will have along the way.

Our new year began in Tonopah, Arizona, with the Arizona State Rally over New Years, hosted by Arizona State Directors; Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes. We ushered in the New Year with laughter and friendship. Then it was off to Indio, California for the Golden Aires Rally, hosted by Ken & Leah Wilson, and more fun and friendship. Then back to Arizona and the desert. Quartzsite was another success this year with record numbers, and as always Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes and crew were amazing hosts. We hope you saw some of the pictures we posted on Facebook. If you are a member of Facebook, be sure to get onto your Region page and like the Newmar Kountry Klub main page as well. It’s a great way to see what is happening, and to share in events.

So far we have plans that will take us from Arizona to California, back to Arizona, then into Nevada, Texas and Oklahoma. With stops along the way to visit and meet as many of you as possible. We will be in Nappanee, Indiana in May, to have some work done on our traveling home, then up to Canada. We will add rallies and events as they continue to populate on the calendar. We definitely know where we will be in late September - the beautiful state of New York. This will be our first ever visit to New York and we are excited.

We hope by now, you have seen the new Web page for the Newmar Kountry Klub - it’s got all kinds of new things. Make sure you explore it. Ask questions if you

INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS-AT-LARGEEvan & Debbie Hughes (19771)

don’t understand or can’t find something, we’ll do our best to get them answered. Change is challenging and exciting all at the same time.

A few years back one of the chapters of the Kountry Klub began collecting Box Tops for Education and donated them to an elementary school in the area they hosted their annual rally. We as Members-at-Large would like to step this up a notch, and do this for our International Kountry Klub Rally. So we are asking you to please begin saving those little pink Box Tops. If you meet us at a rally, you may give them to us or better yet save them and bring to the International Rally in Syracuse, New York. If you are unable to attend the International Rally, watch for information on where you can mail them prior to the rally so they can be included. If we all pitch in think of the positive and amazing things we can do.

May your road be smooth and your travels fun. Until we meet on the road,

FULLTIMERS CHAPTERTom & Roni Lehmkuhl (20913)

The Kountry Klub is hard at work making plans for the big International Rally in Syracuse, New York scheduled for September 30-October 5. We hope to see many of our Fulltimer members there and will be having a Fulltimers Chapter social. We are hoping to present a series of “Life on the Road” Seminars during the rally. More about all that later.

Any Fulltimer Chapter members that haven’t renewed their membership are encouraged to do so. We are holding dues at only $6/year and March 15 is the deadline for renewal. There’s a form on-line at the Newmar Kountry Klub’s website at newmarkountryklub.com under the Klub Regions tab in the Fulltimers section. If you would rather print and fill out a form and mail it in, you can find one in the Traveling Times newsletter or request one emailed from Dave & Sue Leonard at [email protected]. Then it’s just a matter of mailing your check to Dave & Sue at the address on the form. As a member of the chapter you can continue to receive our Traveling Times newsletter, be among the first to hear about events and activities planned by the group, be involved in our closed members-only Facebook group and if you desire, receive a yearly roster of all our members.

New members are always welcome. Anyone interested in the fulltiming lifestyle and a member of the Newmar Kountry Klub can join our Chapter. New member applications are available on the NKK website or from the secretary in the same manner as outlined above for renewals.

We would like to thank all our officers that have been so helpful to our chapter. We couldn’t do it without you.

We encourage our members to get involved - why not plan a rally? Let us know what you’re up to by submitting articles to the Traveling Times newsletter and joining and posting on our chapter members-only Facebook group

As always, if you have suggestions, comments, or just want to say, “Hi” - email us at [email protected].

…and we’re happy to count all of you among our friends. While enjoying the sunshine and warmth of Florida this winter, we sincerely hope wherever you are, you are safe and warm and content. And of course, gearing

up for a great year of travel.

The holidays are always a challenge for those of us who live this nomadic life and we had to improvise holiday activities this year. We no longer have a sticks and bricks and our daughters live in different areas of the country. This year Tom stayed in Florida with our elderly dog that couldn’t make the trip and Roni flew to Indianapolis the day after Christmas to see kids and grandkids. Our lifelong friends from Cincinnati drove down to see us for New Year’s Eve. The four of us have spent every NYE together since 1971 when we were still in high school and we do everything in our power to keep that tradition going. Family, Friends, and Traditions are important to us in whatever form they take.

As you read this, the Newmar Rally at the Tampa RV Supershow is just a memory. This has become quite a popular event, selling out this year. Thanks to everyone that stopped by the Newmar tent for the Fulltimers Social. Now, we just have to find room for all those essential doo-dads and what-nots we purchased because we couldn’t live without them or get that King Aire with more storage space.

Mark your calendars to join us for a meet and greet for Newmar owners hosted by the Fulltimers Chapter in central Florida to be held Thursday, February 21 at 2:00 pm at our winter hang out at Mt. Olive Shores North in Polk City. Polk City is located 1 hour east of Tampa and 45 minutes west of Orlando and 5 miles north of I-4 at exit 38 FL-33. We’ll have a cookout at Clubhouse 1. Email us to RSVP by Saturday, February 16, and for more information and directions. Bring your drinks and a dish to share and enjoy meeting new people. We’ll supply the hot dogs and hamburgers.

There has been quite a bit of interest in our Spring Rally “There’s Silver in Them-Thar Hills” at Rose Valley RV Ranch in Silver City, New Mexico April 15-19. The rally is limited to 17 coaches and as of this writing, is almost full. Contact the rally host, Barbara Nuehring, by dropping her an email at [email protected] to see if there’s still room if you would like to attend. Barbara and her co-hosts, Nancy & John Kelker, have a fun time planned in Grant Country, New Mexico including trips to historic sites and lots of yummy food.

The Fall Rally and Annual Business Meeting is shaping up and will be held in the Thousand Islands area of New York September 22-27. Last year we had 49 coaches attend the Fall Rally and we are reserving sites for 60 this year. Of course, with a rally of that size we are going to need a lot of help to successfully pull it off. We’ll be putting out the call for volunteers, please consider attending and helping out. Volunteering is a great way to get know your fellow Fulltimers better. We will be releasing more details very soon so save the dates and keep an eye out for that announcement.

16 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM FEBRUARY / MARCH 2019

Wow! Can you believe that Christmas has come and gone and we are already a month into 2019? Where in the world did 2018 go? I really believe that as we get older time goes by faster than it did when we were younger. How did we ever have time for work as the saying goes!

For us the last month of 2018 wasn’t much fun. First, we purchased new carpeting for our condo that took forever with installation taking place the day after Christmas. After all the delays the installers showed up with the wrong carpet! The owner of the storage lot where we park our motorhome did a lot of work in the dirt area behind our row and apparently the mice there didn’t appreciate it. They decided to visit our coach along with most of the others around us. It was one way for our coach to get a really good cleaning. Finally, on our way to the Arizona State rally our refrigerator went out.

By the time you are reading this we have already been to three rallies in January. The Arizona State Rally over the New Year in Tonopah, Arizona. Ruth Ann out did herself again with some really amazing food. The California Golden Aires Rally in Indio was again well attended. This rally has been held at Indian Waters RV Park for several years just prior to the FMCA Western Region rally. Finally, we were at the “Gathering in the Desert” in Quartzsite, Arizona along with over 120+ other Newmar owners. The event has five nights listed as the “official” dates but it is one of those you come when you want and leave when you are ready. This event has grown every year since Ted & Ruth Ann stepped up as the primary hosts. This year they had four co-host couples! The Gathering is held about nine miles south on the town of Quartzsite and it is all dry camping. It will be the most fun you ever had dry camping! If you’ve never attended you are missing out on a lot of great fellowship with other Newmar owners and some great dinners prepared by Ted & Ruth Ann and their army of volunteers. Add it to your list of things to do next year.

There are several rallies on the 2019 Klub calendar. Rather than list all of them here please refer to the Klub calendar either online on in the Konnection magazine. The 34th International will be September 30-October 5 in Syracuse, New York. Early parking begins on September 27. Region 1 and 6 are again responsible for parking and registration. So, if you would like to volunteer please email us.

Probably by now you have noticed that the Klub has a new updated website. The webmaster spent quite a bit of time doing the makeover prior to it’s launch the middle of December. Hopefully by the time this article is published all of the kinks and bugs have been worked out.

Bob & Bonnie Krieger, our International Directors, will be retiring at the end of the year. We have enjoyed working with them for the past four years as our International Directors and two years

REGION 1 // AZ, CA, CO, NM, NV, UT

Region Directors :: Marty & Marion Marcum (17221)

prior to that as Region 5 Directors. If you are interested in the position you need to contact the Klub office for a copy of the job description. To apply you will need to submit a resume along with any other pertinent information you feel appropriate to the Kountry Klub Board of Directors attention Mr. Kevin Bogan.

We can be reached [email protected] or 562-762-8853. Safe travels!

ARIZONA Hello from Arizona to all our Newmar family. The Holiday season is upon us as I write. Christmas is our celebration of the Savior’s birth. New Years will find us at Saddle Mountain RV Park celebrating the New Year at the Arizona State Rally. Next, we had two weeks to finish preparations before we arrive in Quartzsite for the Newmar “Gathering in the Desert” along with our four other hosts. The registrations show that we will have another very large Gathering with a coach count over one-hundred twenty a month ahead of the event.

Check the NKK website for the large number of rallies and activities you may want to attend and if your travels bring you to the southwest. Arizona has four locations where Newmar owners meet for breakfast or lunch once or twice a month. Thanks so much to the hosts of these events. For all you Yuma winter residents we need a new host volunteer there, hint, hint. Consider attending the Arizona Sun Catcher’s rally at Havasu Falls RV Resort in Lake Havasu, Arizona from April 4-9. The Arizona Sun Catcher chapter hold great rallies.

The planning for the 2019 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Special Event is going well. We have 25 attendee sites and are attending the second half when the Special Shapes Rodeo occurs. See time lapse video link below. This video was taken in 2015. The Event has grown much larger since then! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGj2G4Ge2bQ

Registrations will open on Monday, February 4 at 10:00 am eastern time. This event usually fills up very quickly. Although this year there is a date conflict with the International Rally in Syracuse, New York being just a week before the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. For those of you who spent the winter/spring with us in our great state we THANK YOU and we look forward to your return again next year. Perhaps we will see each other on the road somewhere this year and remember, the NKK Calendar is a great place to look for places and rallies to include in your travels throughout the year. There will be a free day to explore Havasu, Kingman, Laughlin or Oatman — a list of the many possible things to see and do will be provided. Finally, bring your team spirit and your competitive nature because we are planning the first annual Sun Catchers Wide World of Sports (who will succumb to the agony of defeat!?!). Of course, there will be shared meals, lots of laughs and fellowship with an all-around great group of people!

CALIFORNIAGreetings all and welcome to the New Year. By now we have rung in the New Year with the Golden Aires Rally in Indio and the Gathering in the Desert in Quartzsite. I hope many of you were able to join in the fun.

If you haven’t started your RV season for 2019 as of yet, there are many events on the horizon:Nevada State Rally – end of MarchArizona Sun Catchers – beginning of AprilCalifornia 49ers – late AprilRegion 1 Rally – mid-MayCalifornia State Rally – end of May

Check the calendar for locations and specific times. We are also looking forward to a strong west coast presence in New York in late September for the International Rally!!

As I write this message, we are still looking to fill the Golden Bears’ President’s position. I would greatly appreciate speaking with those interested in assuming a leadership role in the Kountry Klub. Volunteer clubs such as ours cannot function without members that get involved. Don’t just follow, be a leader.

It will soon be Valentine’s Day. Make sure you let your special someone knows how much they mean to you!

See you down the road,Larry and Mary Roberts (21041)California State [email protected]

CALIFORNIA 49ERSFinally! We’ve made a decision on our rally for 2019! Hurray! Yippee! The California 49ers 2019 Rally will be held in Paso Robles, California at The Vines starting April 23rd with everyone departing on the 26th. We’ll have a ton of fun with our 2nd annual Korn Hole Tournament and other fun events and great food so we look forward to seeing you all there!

On another note, as most of you know, we live in Thousand Oaks, California. November was a very difficult month for our little city with the mass shooting and the fires that left 75% of us with mandatory evacuations. We lost two family friends at the shooting and many neighbors lost their homes due to the fires. Please pray for the families that were affected by both of these horrific events...it will take time for our community to heal and your prayers are deeply needed.

Hugs and Blessings,Jay and Cheryl Freeman (20343)[email protected]

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS Greeting from Southern California, we can’t believe that it’s already 2019. The years seem to just fly by when you are having fun especially when you are living the RV Life Style. 2018 was a great year for us, we attended many Newmar rallies, including the International Rally in Gillette, Wyoming. Now it is time to look thru the Kountry Klub Calendar and select the 2019 events to attend.

The California Golden Aires would like to thank our two big supporters, Tom Linstrom RV and Holland RV for their past and continuous sponsorship to our rallies. Our rallies success is partially due to their contributions and support. Many of their customers that have purchased a Newmar from them have joined the Kountry Klub and our chapters.

TECH TIP: SERVICE / RECALL INFORMATION: It’s time for the annual service on your Spartan, Freightliner, Ford or Workhorse chassis. Also, if you tow a car or truck, it’s a good to check your towing equipment. To determine whether your RV, car or truck has been recalled, visit the website the US Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for recall information.

As this is written we hope to see everyone in Indio and at the Gathering in the Desert. “Every day is a vacation when you live in a RV.”

White clouds and safe travels to you.Ken and Leah Wilson (20332)Presidents (951) 743-6156

is a new day. We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that 2019 is starting off the way you hoped.

Our annual, four-day, June Rally has been set up for June 13, at the Royal Gorge KOA, which is approximately 7 miles west of Canyon City, Colorado. This area offers so many attractions that I can’t list all of them. The main ones include seeing the Royal Gorge from the suspension bridge that spans the 1000 ft. deep gorge. The Royal Gorge Train, which travels along the Arkansas River in the bottom of the gorge is also a favorite. The KOA Park is holding 15 sites for our group. More information will be coming out in the next month or so. So, if you think you are interested, SAVE THE DATE.

Safe travels to everyone.Randy and Kathy Bohmeyer (19329)[email protected]

NEVADAWe survived another Holiday Season. As the years pass, we are not sure just how we did it or how we are going to do it again next year. With all kidding aside, what a wonderful time of the year. Spending time with family and close friends reliving memories and making new ones to share in future years. It goes without saying that with young children the stress level goes up but also the rewards are greater.

Many of us did not have the time to take down and store our holiday decorations before answering the call of the open road and visiting with members of our Newmar Family. Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes (19361) combined the fun and excitement of bringing in the New Year into their Arizona State Rally. What a blast!!! After the Arizona Rally there was no time to waste getting to Indio, California and the California Golden Aries Rally. Thank you, Ken & Leah Wilson (20332) for hosting another wonderful rally. As the Golden Aires ended their rally, Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes were getting ready to greet over 110 coaches to the Gathering in the Desert outside of Quartzsite, Arizona. How do they do it?

The Nevada State Rally will be held at the Lake Mead RV Village inside the Lake Mead Recreational Area. There will be a tour of the area in Las Vegas that had artesian wells thus making Las Vegas possible. A tour of the Mob Museum and a private tour of the newly opened National Indoor RV Center with lunch. Along with our Co-Host Marlene Kirch (19317), we will have breakfast each morning with a welcome dinner the first night of the rally. The rally fee is $130 per couple and $95 for a single person. Fee DOES NOT include your site fee and you must contact the park directly, phone 702-293-2540, be sure you tell them you are with the Newmar Rally. Remember, there is a maximum of 20 coaches and the deadline is the end of February 2019.

Wishing you smooth roads and following winds,Cheryl and George Zellers (19163)Nevada State [email protected]

NEVADA MOTHER LODE It’s going to be a great 2019! We are getting a Newmar Dealer in NEVADA! By now, National Indoor RV Center has opened in the Las Vegas area and we are excited to welcome them. For us Nevadans it’s exciting to get a dealer that can do sales and services in our state. We have enjoyed the winter months

in Arizona with sunsets to remind us how blessed this RV life is. Our travels afforded us the pleasure of meeting a number of our Newmar family owners, including over 100 coaches at the ever fun Gathering in the Desert in Quartzsite, Arizona this past month. With many of you now making the trip home from the winter months or looking forward to the spring and summer travels we want to get our Nevada Mother Lode Chapter Rally 2019 on your calendars. We are joining in on the fun of a premiere entertainment event, Hot August Nights August 8-11 hosted in Reno, Nevada. Our rally will be staying nearby in Gardnerville, Nevada this year. Join us for 3 days of fun! We will take a group bus trip through a number of the event venues, enjoy music, entertainment and of course the classic vehicles that make Hot August Nights a top destination for car and truck lovers. We will also enjoy a day in Lake Tahoe checking out various history, culture and whimsy as part of 4-person team leisurely scavenger hunts. Not the least we include the great times we have in fellowship, meals and comraderies. This is a limited space event so sign up now on the NKK Calendar! We hope to see you all in Nevada. Happy Trails. Joe and Sue Murin (21301)[email protected]

NEW MEXICOAs I write this, Lorie & I have just returned in our Newmar from a family Christmas celebration in Las Vegas, Nevada. Due to a major winter storm hitting New Mexico during our planned return, we took a southern detour through Tucson and Las Cruces which added 4 hours to the travel time but added a comforting safety factor. We have learned that this wonderful lifestyle requires a certain degree of patience and flexibility. It seems every trip we take we learn something useful to add to our store of knowledge. One of the things we are considering in our rally plans is to create a forum to share and exchange knowledge, experience and ideas among the rally attendees.

As reported in the last Konnection, the New Mexico State Rally will be held in Angel Fire New Mexico, from Thursday, June 13th through the Monday, the 17th (4 nights). Our event will coincide with the “Balloons Over Angel Fire” weekend. As this is their most popular annual event reservations must be made directly with the RV resort before March 15th to secure one of our contiguous blocked sites. This is a first-class resort with modern facilities in a beautiful part of New Mexico. Angel Fire RV Resort 800-633-7463. Mention New Mexico Newmar Kountry Klub to secure our group rate of $58.50 per night including tax. For information on amenities go to www.angelfirervresort.com. Early arrivals and extended stays up to 5 days before/after will enjoy a $52.00 nightly rate. The projected rally fee (DOES NOT INCLUDE SITE) will be $135 per coach (2 people) $67.50 for (1). Included will be three evening meals including one “pot luck” and 3 breakfasts. The fee and our schedule will be finalized as we move toward the date. Please check the Klub website or contact me, Jim Landers 505-508-9353 or [email protected]

NEW MEXICO CHILI PEPPERSAs we write this article, Cindy & I are wrapping up our Christmas Season. We were so blessed to have had all 5 of our grandchildren, their parents and our mothers with us on Christmas Day. We hope that each of you had a blessed Christmas Season. We are planning to have a quiet New Year’s Eve at home.

Cindy & I will be in Santa Fe for 4 days in January to finalize some of the details for the 2019 New Mexico Chili Pepper’s Rally. As a reminder, the rally will be in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the Santa Fe Skies RV Park, beginning August 15-19 (4 nights). Our group rates are $50 for a back-in space and $52 for a pull-thru space. They accept: Good Sam’s, FMCA, AAA, AARP, Senior, and Military for a 10% discount from the above rates. These rates are good if you want to arrive as early as August 14 and/or if you want to depart on August 20. You should make your reservations as soon as possible. The group reservation is under the name of the Newmar Kountry Klub.

The 98th Annual Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (www.swaia.org), the Santa Fe Indian Market, will be held in Santa Fe on August 17-18. We will be providing you with a schedule of all the events, day trips, places to dine, directions, a list of exhibitors and much more. The Santa Fe Indian Market is a 97-year-old Native art market. It is the largest and most prestigious juried Native arts show in the world and the largest cultural event in the Southwest. Over 1,100 Native artists from the U.S. and Canada sell their artwork at the market. The Indian Market attracts 150,000 visitors to Santa Fe from all over the world. For many visitors this is a rare opportunity to meet the artists and learn about contemporary Indian arts and cultures. Indian Market Week precedes the Indian Market Weekend. It is a series of events in Native film, literature, music, fashion and visual art.

Now is a great time to sign-up for this rally with Newmar Kountry Klub and reserve one of the 20 spaces we have reserved at Santa Fe Skies RV Park. You will be making and paying for your own reservations at the RV Park. Here is contact information for making your reservation:

Santa Fe Skies RV Park, 14 Browncastle Ranch, Santa Fe, NM 87508, (877) 565-0451 or (505) 473-5946. www.santafeskiesrvpark.com. We have not yet completed our plans for the Rally; therefore, we have not determined the cost of the rally. We will complete our plans in January/February 2019 and will let you know the cost then.

We would also like to suggest that you consider signing up for the New Mexico Newmar Kountry Klub State Rally that will be held at the Angel Fire RV Resort, in Angel Fire, New Mexico, from June 13-16 (4 nights).

21FEBRUARY / MARCH 2019 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

Acco rd ing to a popu la r Christmas carol, the ‘Happiest time of the year’ is the holiday season. But for many RVer’s the happiest time of the year is when we start planning our schedule for the next camping season. We hope everyone had a great holiday season and terrific start to this New Year. Now that the

holidays are behind us, we are busy putting together our travel itinerary for the upcoming rallies, a couple of SPURs and visits throughout our region.

The Region 2 Rally, being held in Caldwell, Idaho is now on the Kountry Klub calendar. An error was made in the last Konnection where the rally date was shown as June 3-7. The rally is actually scheduled from Sunday, June 2-Thursday, June 6. That will leave a couple of days for people to travel to, and attend the Evergreen Aires Rally in Clarkston, Washington as well. During our Regional Rally, you will have an opportunity to tour some of Idaho’s beautiful wine and cider country. Be sure to sign up early as there is a limited number of spaces available for this optional tour!

Also be sure to check out the Evergreen Aires Rally beginning June 10-14 and the Washington State Rally in August from the 11-15. You have more chances than ever this year to meet the great people of the Pacific Northwest!

We expect to have our personal travel plans finalized by late February. Once we do, we will publish them on the Region 2 Facebook page and on Twitter. So if you’re going to be in Region 2 at any time this year, be sure to join one or both of our social media groups. There will be a lot going on this year, so please join us now and get the news and updates first! Newmar Kountry Klub Region 2 AK,ID,MT,OR,WA,WY and @NKKRegionTwo

For those of you who reside in Region 2, and while you are putting together your own schedule for the year, why not plan on hosting a SPUR (Simple Pop Up Rally)? As the name implies, it’s simple. Just pick a place to camp for a few days, announce it on the Facebook page (a few weeks in advance please) and let us all know when and where you’ll be. We’ll quickly put it on the Klub calendar for the rest of our Newmar friends traveling in the Region to see. As the SPUR host, all you have to do is plan a simple meal on the first night so everyone can gather at your campsite. Hotdogs, pizza, ‘hobo stew’ on the campfire or ‘stone soup’ are just a few ideas. From there, it is up to you and your fellow Klub members. Plan some group activity or sightseeing together; pick a nice place for lunch; or just relax and get to know your fellow Kountry Klub members.

In addition to the Regional Rally, we will be hosting a few SPURs as well this year. Plans are being made for holding them in Oregon, Montana and Wyoming. Stay tuned for the dates and locations. We will also be attending the Evergreen Aires Rally in Clarkston, Washington.

REGION 2 // AK, ID, MT, OR, WA, WY

Region Directors :: Mark & Lesleyanne Weiss (21042)

Even if you don’t want to host a SPUR, we would still invite you to publish your whereabouts on the region Facebook page. We are well on our way to 100 members in our Facebook group and you never know who might be in the area. We’ve met some really great friends that way!

As a service to our fellow NKK members, we have started a file of favorite campgrounds on the Region 2 Facebook page. Look for it under the ‘Files’ option at the top of the page under the header. Feel free to add your favorites to the list. While there are a number of campground review websites, we have found that nothing beats a personal recommendation from fellow campers. Tell us what you liked about the place and maybe some interesting things to do in the area. And if you can’t figure out how to update the file, just email the information to us ([email protected]) and we’ll take care of it for you.

If you’re anything like us, we use our winter break to reassess how we utilize our RV space and clear out some ‘stuff’ we’ve accumulated. We all know space management is the key to successful camping in an RV... long or short term. If you have some great ideas on how to manage space, feel free to share them with all of us on the Facebook page. We could sure use some fresh ideas.

As you’ve probably noticed by now, we use Facebook for a wide variety of reasons. If you’re not on the Region 2 Facebook page, what are you waiting for? You don’t have to live in our region, or even visit our northwestern states regularly. You just need a desire to be part of a great group of NKK members!

Enjoy your ‘Happiest Time of the Year’ and plan on joining some, or all of us, this summer. Region 2 is a beautiful part of North America! And while you’re planning, don’t forget to schedule the International rally this September in Syracuse, New York on your agenda. All indicators show that it’s going to be a great one!

See you down the road!

WASHINGTONHere in the “4th corner” we have experienced the most beautiful fall. In November, we had more than one inch of rain and none of our usual November wind storms. Now in December, as we draw close to Christmas, we have been experiencing clear sunny days and cold, crisp, starlit nights. Just right for lighting a fire and having a mug of hot cocoa.

It’s not the ideal time of year for ‘glamping’ in the Pacific Northwest, but some of us do manage to get out now and then. We winterized our Ventana in mid-November and put her inside for the winter, not to be seen again until probably March. We did manage to take a trip over the Cascade Mountains to the Bavarian Village of Leavenworth for the tree lighting festival and that was one of the highlights of our Christmas season! Put that one on your bucket list!

We have been busy planning the Washington State Rally, which is scheduled for August 11-15 in Oak Harbor on beautiful Whidbey Island, Washington. This is a beautiful part of the state on the edge of the San Juan Islands and the North Whidbey RV Park is right next to the breathtaking views of Deception Pass. Never fear, Whidbey Island is accessible by bridge, thus, no ferry ride required. We are planning an optional whale watching cruise (subject to review of possible new Washington state whale watching regulations), but the boat

operators assure us that there are lots of other species of whales to be seen in the San Juan Islands besides Killer Whales. This rally is currently on the NKK calendar, but we are not yet taking reservations, so check back regularly for the beginning of reservations. You don’t want to miss this rally.

As you read this, it is now past Christmas and we are well into 2019. We hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season and we pray for a happy new year for all. Keep the tires between the lines and we hope to see you at a rally in 2019.

Blessings to everyone …Ben and Donna Barker (20884)Washington State Directors

EVERGREEN AIRES The Evergreen Aires Rally is all planned for June 10-14 in Clarkston, Washington. It is now on the NKK calendar so be sure to check it out and get your registration in. 23FEBRUARY / MARCH 2019 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. At this time, we are in San Diego with family and having a great time with the grand-daughters.

We want to thank Jim & Jane Thomas (15629) for serving as Texas State Directors for the

past three years. We have always enjoyed working with them. We are sure we will see them at a Newmar event in the future.

We want to welcome Randall & Kathleen Haydon (20296) as the new Texas State Directors starting in 2019. We are looking forward to working with Randall & Kathleen and are glad to have them on board.

It is that time of the year to start thinking about the upcoming rally season. In looking at our calendar, it is filling up fast starting with the Region 3 Rally in Fredericksburg, Texas on April 15 -19. Next is the Oklahoma State Rally on April 25-28 in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The Arkansas State Rally will be May 1-5 in Batesville, Arkansas. After that, we leave for the Alaska/Yukon Caravan. Nineteen of the twenty slots were booked in the first 30 minutes after reservations opened. After Alaska, we will be home for a few weeks; then it is off to the International Rally. The Kansas State Rally will be July 18-21 in South Hutchinson, Kansas.

If you live in Region 3, we want to let you know that we have a Facebook group that you can join. We would love to have you as a member.

Be sure to check the Calendar of Events to see all the rallies that are taking place. Remember, you are always welcome at any Newmar rally. You only need to be a member of the Kountry Klub to attend.

ARKANSASThe Arkansas State Rally is scheduled for May 1-5 at Brecks RV Park in Batesville. See ad for more information.

We will be in Texas and hope to attend the Newmar Luncheon.James and Ruth Ann Hairston (17646)Arkansas State Directors

KANSAS By the time this Konnection hits your mailbox February will be here, and those of us from the mid and northern states will be looking forward to evidence of spring and warmer days.

Sherry & I are staying in South Texas the first two months of the New Year, and have enjoyed attending the Newmar Luncheons and seeing winter friends again.

REGION 3 // AR, KS, LA, MO, OK, TX

Region Directors :: Larry & Patsy Wood (12255-L)

We want to thank Darrell & Jeanette Wehmeier for hosting the Kansas Kountry Sunflower luncheon on November 3 in Topeka. We were unable to attend, but understand that some folks attended that are new chapter members, and Sherry & I look forward to meeting them.

The first event on our Kansas rally schedule for 2019 is Larry & Patsy Wood’s Region 3 Rally in Fredericksburg, Texas. The Texas Hill country is a fun place to visit, and we hope many of our Kansas Klub members will plan to attend.

Please check the Calendar of Events in the back of this Konnection for a schedule of Kansas Kountry Sunflower rallies and also the Kansas State Rally. Mark them on your calendars now so you will know when they are and not schedule in a conflict later. Sherry & I look forward to attending as many rallies as possible and look forward to see you there. Larry and Sherry DeWitt (11440-L)Kansas State Directors

The Louisiana State Rally is scheduled for March 19-21, at Lakeside RV Park in Livingston, Louisiana. We attended two excellent, Newmar Rallies recently. The “Christmas in Branson Rally” was packed with 12 Branson shows, good food and fellowship. It was an exhausting rally with all of the fun activities. Thankfully, the “Rally in the Florida Keys” was more laid back. We enjoying the great fellowship and food, and the warmer weather. Kudos to both rally masters, well done.

OKLAHOMAWell here it is winter time and we are hopefully in our places whether it be a warmer climate or home. As of this writing, Christmas is upon us in Oklahoma and the temperature forecast in the mid 50’s. June & I are planning on heading to Tucson the day after Christmas to spend a little time in the warmer climate playing a little golf and taking a tour of the military graveyard where all military planes are transferred after active duty.

I hope everyone has planned their spring and summer travels, but if you haven’t, I’d like to offer some suggestions. In April, we have both the Region 3 Rally and the Oklahoma State Rally. The Region Rally is April 15-19 at Fredericksburg, Texas. June & I are the hosts for this years’ Oklahoma State Rally at Wanderlust Crossings RV Resort in Weatherford, Oklahoma. It will be held April 25-28. This rally will include lots of food, seminars and displays of new Newmar Units. Please check out the rally ad in this Konnection addition. As of this writing, we will have just returned from a week on the gulf coast with several other Newmar owners. I’m hoping I will have gotten to ride a jet ski as I have never ridden before. I hope everyone has a great spring and summer and hope our trails will cross at one of the many rallies

Happy trails,Bill and June Aduddell (21490)Oklahoma State Directors

TEXASChristmas 2018 will be over and a New Year begun as you read this article. Jane & I hope your Holidays were wonderful and that each of you will enjoy a happy and prosperous 2019. As the New Year begins Randall & Kathleen Haydon will become the new Texas State Directors. We wish them great success and joy as they lead the Newmar Kountry Klub Lone Star RV Klub in the coming years.

Jane & I have enjoyed our tenure as the Texas State Directors and will continue to be active members of the Newmar Kountry Lone Star South Klub. The Texas Kountry Klub has enjoyed a large increase in membership over the past few years. With only one Newmar Kountry Klub Chapter in Texas there is a looming problem of finding rally venues that can accommodate a large rally of over 40-50 rigs per rally. In Texas we have the challenge of dealing with RV Parks that are full of Winter Texans and transient oil field workers. Of course, this is good news for the RV Parks but makes for a challenge to plan monthly rallies. However, the next 2 Texas rallies are scheduled for March and May 2019.

March 7–9 the KLSS Rally will be at the Buena Vista RV and Safari Park, Evant, Texas 254-791-5441.

April 26–30 the Newmar Region 3 Rally will be at the Vineyards of Fredericksburg RV Park, Fredericksburg, Texas 830-992-1237.

May 16-18 the KLSS Rally will be at Sunset Point on Lake LBJ, Marble Falls, Texas 830-798-8199.

To enjoy these rallies attendees are required to sign-up on the Newmar Kountry Klub Web site and to make your own reservations with the RV Park. However, if you will go to the chapter Web Site at www.kountrylonestarssouth.com, you will find the information you need to sign-up for a rally. Click on the Tile at the top that says Useful RV Sites you will find the Newmar KK Calendar. If you scroll down to the proper date and click on it a form will open where you can sign-up for a KLSS Rally.

Over the past three years Jane & I have enjoyed seeing Texas become the State with the largest contingent of Newmar Kountry Klub members in attendance at the Newmar International. Of course, the Newmar KK Full Time Chapter always has the largest total representation, but then most of them claim an address of Livingston, Texas.

2018 was a stressful year in some ways because our beloved Region 3 Director and fellow Texan, Larry Harrington, passed away. Then the KLSS April Rally had to be postponed due to flooding. Here in Texas we have learned to never complain about the rain because we’re usually begging for rain for much of the year.

Jane & I thank all for the privilege of representing the State of Texas. As you travel this incredible Nation we hope and pray you will have journey mercies. We know all of us are so blessed to be able to drive and enjoy our Newmar Motorhomes. See you all on the road.Jim and Jane Thomas (15629)Texas State Directors

ILLINOISWe hope your holidays were filled with family and good wishes. Now spring is arriving at our warmer locations and those up north are tired of their cold weather and planning trips! We are too!

It seems like by now we all have several rallies penciled in on the 2019 calendar. In Illinois, our first rally is in Mil Shoals, Illinois at the Glover’s Farm in June. Since they provide us with hookups, the guest list is full, but we’re looking forward to a relaxing time. Our State Rally is being held at the Newton Race Track in July at the NASCAR INFINITY race. We are doing a joint rally with Iowa and looking forward to a different pace and experience. Since we had to buy tickets and make reservations in 2018, again we are limited with numbers. If you are interested and can find a spot for camping, let us know and we can probably help you find some tickets near us. The race date is July 27, 2019. Next on our calendar is our Region 4 Rally in Rock Island, Illinois September 9-12. From there we will be on our way to Syracuse, New York for the International Rally. We’re really looking forward to going somewhere we’ve never been before and hope to do a few side trips along the way. After we penciled in all of those dates, we will now plan our family get-togethers and wonder why we still have a home in Illinois. Until we decide where we want to live when we grow up and stay healthy, we’ll keep traveling. We were saddened to lose another long time Klub member last November, Don Ozburn. His wife, Sandy passed away a couple of years ago and they both will be missed. He held several chapter officer positions in our NKK, and hosted many rallies. Enjoy spring and we hope to see y’all down the road! Richard and Donna Ritchie (16254)Illinois State DirectorsDonna 847-804-4274Rich [email protected]

IOWAHi everyone! Hope this finds everyone well. Our State Rally is being held at the Newton Race Track in July at the NASCAR INFINITY race. We are having a joint State Rally with Illinois this year. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new friends. Since we had to buy tickets and make reservations in 2018, again we are limited with numbers. If you are interested and can find a spot for camping, let us know and we can probably help you find some tickets near us. The race date is July 27.

We wish to welcome the new Minnesota State Directors, Ted & Vivian Olsen (19476) from Spicer, Minnesota, we look forward to working with you. A very big THANK YOU to Pete & Joan Neururer (16603) for helping us out ever since we took over as Region 4 Directors, we truly appreciate

everything you put forth. Enjoy your retirement!!!

Our turn out was small for the December 11 Newmar Luncheon at the Golden Corral in Surprise, Arizona. The January one held on January 15 was a whole lot better. Great to see you all again.

We have the Newmar Owners and Guest Luncheons scheduled on February 12 and March 12 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Golden Corral located at 17674 N. Litchfield Drive in Surprise, Arizona. Please come and join us, we have the meeting room reserved. If you are going to be in that area let us know and give us your e-mail address, we will see to it that you receive the dates and time each month.

The 2019 Region 4 Rally is scheduled for September 9-12 at the Rock Island-Quad Cities KOA located at 2311 78th Ave West, Rock Island, IL 61201. To make your reservation call: 1-888-562-4502, tell them you are with the group name – Newmar Kountry Klub for September 9-12 and provide your credit card for guarantee of reservations before May 31.

Campground rates at the current time for pull thru is $57.00 per night. All campsites have 50 amps, water & sewer. Free Wi Fi. You will need to make your own reservations.

At this time, we are looking at Deere and Company World Headquarters (we tried for the John Deere Factory but it is closed for the months of August and September each year). We can do the John Deere Pavilion, Iowa 80 Truck Stop and Museum. We also looked at the Mississippi River Boat Luncheon Cruise, (the boat is out of town that week so that was a no go!). We are considering the Pickers Channel Cat Boat Tour need more information before we decide on this. Registration fee: (To be announced)

Happy to say, Del is doing better, Lawn Bowling and Golfing. He had another Angiogram last week, good news the blood is flowing through the stents like is supposed to and the 60% blockage that was found in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is no longer there. The doctor said the heart muscle looks good. But he still is having shortness of breath. Our next step is to have his lungs checked again, he did do that before we left South Dakota in October. At that time, they said everything looked okay.

MINNESOTAWe are hoping everyone had a happy holiday and a good start to the New Year.

We live in Spicer on Lake Florida. We have been retired a few years and have been keeping busier than ever. Our two children and eight grandchildren live close so we spend as much time as we can with them. Ted is a retired computer programmer and is teaching a STEM class. He likes woodworking projects and working with electronics. Vivian is a quilter and loves to cook for the kids. We both like to play cards and are big on the pickleball.

We purchased our first RV from Steinbring’s in October of 2010. It was a 2001 Dutch Star. In 2016, we traded up for a 2008 Dutch Star. We have been traveling to Arizona for the past 6 years and yes, we have become “snowbirds”. We are at the Gold Canyon RV and Golf Resort Park in Gold Canyon, Arizona.

We joined the Minnesota Loons in 2011 and attended the rally at the St. Cloud Campground. It was really neat to see all the Newmar coaches parked in a row. Also, we meet some incredible people. We hope to keep that up and grow our Minnesota Loons Chapter. Our first rally will be in May 2019 at the St. Cloud Campground.

WISCONSINHappy Valentines and St. Patrick’s Day!

Now is the time to start making your plans for our 2019 rally season, the first rally is our State Rally on June 13-17 at Fountain Lake RV Campground at Almond, Wisconsin. This is a great location for our rallies as we have the whole campground area, with full hookups, fire rings and free firewood, a great shelter building and it’s almost in the center of the State. We have held many of our rallies here because of the central location for our members travel distances. We also are able to locate tours in the area and take part in many of the local events, this year it’s the Strawberry Fest in Waupaca.

The July Rally is being held at Kewaunee RV & Campground at Kewaunee on July 16-19. Look at the Calendar of Events and watch for more information in our articles as we get nearer the timelines. This will also provide you with the rally hosts and their contact information.

The August Rally will be held on August 14-17 which will be a dry camping event at the Wayne & Debbi Springinsguth’s 18884) residence at Bark River, Michigan to be held in conjunction with the Upper Michigan State Fair in Escanaba, Michigan. Many of our activities will take part at the fair with their daily entertainment events. So, make plans for something different and come and enjoy your time with the group. We

The International Rally will be held on September 28-October 5 at Syracuse, New York. This should be a great location, it sounds like a great area and it’s another new location for your enjoyment.

If you haven’t paid your Northern Aires dues, please do so as soon as possible, we would hate to have you dropped from our membership. Please forward your payment to our Treasurer Theresa Korycan (18963).

Can you remember when you were a child and Christmas took forever to get here? Well, you know where this is going. How time flies the older we get!

As I write this article, we are heavy into the preparations for our annual New Year’s Eve BBQ. We are getting closer to the Tampa Super Show and our preparations for that

is also taking a lot of my time. We plan on arriving at the fairgrounds on the 7th of January along with our faithful volunteers who work on the parking layout in preparations for 200 rigs parking on January 15th. Wanda & I want to thank them for their dedication to the NKK.

By now you are all aware that Bob & Bonnie Krieger are stepping down as International Directors this year. They have dedicated years of service to the NKK and will be missed. Both of them just love people and that is one trait that it takes to make a great leader in the NKK. We love you and will miss you.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!MAY GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR TRAVELS

We have a new website. The new site looks much nicer. Please be patient as we learn more about the site as Directors and you as members.

Please see the advertisements in this issue for state rallies. Your State Directors spend countless hours in preparations for these rallies.

Please see the Calendar of Events on the website for upcoming events as you travel. There are different ways that you can view the calendar. To search for an event its best to be in the “List” mode.

Make plans to attend the Region 5 Rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina beginning just after International. The dates are October 11-16. I have 70 sites reserved this year. We have turned people away the last two years when we were capped at 50.

See you soon at a rally. Safe travels to all!! Love God Love Others

FLORIDAAs you read this article Margie & I attended the Florida Super RV Show Rally with 200 Newmar coaches in attendance. Many of the Florida Chapter members were in attendance and stepped up to volunteer. There were a lot of First Timers in attendance at our Florida Social and the Super Show too. What a great time was had by all. What a pleasure it was to meet so many new Newmar friends and to rekindle old friendships. That is what is so great about Newmar Kountry Klub rallies. Oh, wait, I almost forgot the Strawberry Shortcakes from Parkesdale Farmers Market, Plant City, Florida. If you have not made your way there, you are missing out on one fantastic strawberry shortcake. So, if you attend the 2020 Florida Super Show, make sure you put this on your schedule.

Region Directors :: Gary & Wanda Smith (16540-L)

REGION 5 // AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA

North Trail RV Center put on another great display of new 2019 Newmar coaches. They are a great sponsor to our Newmar Kountry Klub. There were vendors galore and if you couldn’t find what you were looking for, they probably haven’t made it yet. So, inventors, that may be something to think about.

We would like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to all the Newmar Service Tech’s that came to the Rally and serviced all our coaches. Can’t say enough about Elmer Yoder and his crew.

The Florida Pelican will also be holding their January rally at the NKK Florida Super RV Show and we will be dropping in to take part in their rally events. Last year, the Pelicans had their January 2018 rally at the Super Show and they know how to put on a nice rally, with plenty of food and it was great to meet up with old friends. So we are sure they will be ready for another great rally.

In February, we will have the pleasure of two rallies. The Florida Manatees and the Florida Sea Turtles will be putting on back to back rallies at the Clerbrook Golf & RV Resort. We look forward to meeting up with new and old friends and attending as many of our Florida Chapter rallies and luncheons (more food) that we possible can in the near future.

We attended the SW Florida Newmar Owners & Friends Luncheon hosted by Ron & Wanda Llewellyn on December 18. We had fifteen couples show up at Golden Corral for lunch and three of the guests were First Timers. Needless to say, they joined up and we now have three new NKK members.

As you all know the Newmar Kountry Klub has a new website. We know it has taken a little to get used to, but we are sure that the improvements are only going to make our NKK better. So, take a look around, go to the Klub Calendar for rallies and luncheons to attend.

On April 3-7 Margie & I will be hosting our first Florida State Rally at the CreekSide RV Resort in Punta Gorda, Florida. We have 35 sites reserved, so get on the NKK website and register for the rally. Don’t forget to contact CreekSide RV Resort at 941-833-3334 and make your campground reservations. We will have catered meals, tours, entertainment (so bring your dancing shoes) and games all set up for your enjoyment. So, come one come all.

Margie & I want to WELCOME all the new members and hope you will enjoy the fun, friendship, fellowship and your new adventures by belonging to the NKK, State and Local Chapters. As a reminder, check out all the NKK Facebook pages of all Regions and Chapters. We encourage y’all to join in the conversations, pass on tips and your travel expeditions. And by all means if there is anything y’all need to pass on to Margie or me, just give us a call or send us an email.

FLORIDA MANATEESOur rally season is now in full swing. We started with our November Rally to Savannah, Georgia, which we all had a great

time. The Manatees would like to give a shout out to Tom & Sally Bernardi, for also co-hosting the Savannah Rally with Jim & Pat Leiss and Gary & Terry Hartley. They all did a fantastic job on putting on a great rally.

As previously discussed, the Manatees held our election of officers during the month of November. Rosemary & I were elected President and we look forward to our new adventure with the Klub. With Pat Leiss stepping down from the Secretary position, Jeanne Bateman was elected our new Klub Secretary. Rolf Kuhns and Karen Burnette, were re-elected to Vice President and Treasurer, respectively.

The Florida RV Super Show rally had over 400 Newmar Kountry Klub attendees and they all had a great time visiting with the North Trail Newmar Motorhome exhibit, vendors and the shows.

Pat Garrison & Gene Parker, will be hosting our February Rally at the Clerbrook Golf & RV Resort and Rosemary & I will be assisting as the co-hosts. We have plans to visit a local winery, tour of the Presidents Hall of Fame and games after dinner.

Our March Rally is going to be at Silver Palms RV Resort, Okeechobee, Florida and as of this writing plans are still being put together for a great rally by our hosts Bill & Eileen Berg.

We would like to welcome our new Manatee members: Tom & Carrie Hahn; Paul & Susan Young; Denny & Carol Cook; Drew & Pam Denice; Tracy & Margie Brannon, and Mike & Dale Cafferty.Bill and Rosemary Lumsden (21440)[email protected]

FLORIDA PELICANSThe Florida Pelicans started the 2018/19 season with a wonderful Welcome Back Rally in late November at the Sherwood Forest RV Resort in Kissimmee. The rally, which was hosted by Susan & Gary Duchesneau with help from numerous other Pelicans, was a huge success. Activities included a trip to Gator Land, a viewing of the spectacular Christmas decorations at many of the Disney Resorts and the Gaylord Palms Hotel “A Christmas Story” ice sculpture exhibit of A Christmas Story. We enjoyed the local cuisine and the catered meals in the club house. We honored one of our past presidents and recent Membership Chair, Dean Hartman, who sadly passed. His love for the club was shared by all.

In early December we had our annual Christmas Luncheon in Naples hosted by Carol Hussey. The Christmas carols provided a great backdrop for our delicious lunch and Christmas merriment.

2018 also brought a change in chapter leadership. Our new chapter officers include: President Tim Buchholz (former VP), VP Roger Mercier and staying as Treasurer/Secretary is Gerry Smith. Outgoing officers include: President Bea Hamor, VP Tim Buchholz (who is the new President) and Secretary Sally O’Reilly. We wish our new slate of officers the very best as they continue to make the Florida Pelicans a wonderful club.

As the outgoing Florida Pelicans President, I would like to acknowledge and thank the great and hardworking outgoing officers Tim Buchholz, Gerry Smith and Sally O’Reilly, and welcome the new officers. I would also like to thank Newmar Corporation and the Kountry Klub management and our Regional and State Directors for all the support. Without their direction and support our chapter would not flourish. I would also like to recognize and thank Linda Feece for her assistance thru the years.

Hope to see you soon. Safe travels. Beatrice Hamor (18907)President

FLORIDA SEA TURTLESHello from Florida. Now that Christmas and New Year is over, we can get ready for a full year of rallies and travel. The Tampa Super Show is now over and I’m sure a great time was had by all.

The Sea Turtles New Year will start with a rally in February, at the Clerbrook Golf & RV Resort, followed by our March Rally, at the Red Gate Campground, in Savannah, Georgia. Many of us will then attend the Florida State Rally, April 3-7, at the Creek Side RV Resort, Punta Gorda, Florida. We would like to welcome all the snowbirds back and invite you to attend our rallies.

Safe travels.Kenneth Griffin (10680) [email protected] 256-762-0982

MID SOUTH TRI-STATE (GA-AL-MS)Welcome to 2019! Wow, it takes us the first four weeks of a new year to get it down. We have certainly seen positive NKK growth in our Tri-State area last year. NKK now has ninety-three enrolled members, which is up by eighteen from the previous year.

Barb & I attended the Peach State Krackers Christmas Luncheon on December 13 in Jackson, Georgia. We were honored to have our Region 5 Directors, Gary & Wanda Smith, attend and give us an overall update of Newmar and Kountry Klub plans.

We also attended the Rally in the Keys in early December. What a great event this was and special thanks to the Llewellyn’s and Smith’s for hosting this wonderful event.

We have teamed up with Donna Jones & Bill Stanley to host the Tri-State Rally in Gulf Shores, Alabama May 1-5. This should be a fun event coinciding with the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival.

We are working towards a rally for Peach State Krackers in July. It will probably be in the North Georgia Mountains. Will keep you posted as this develops.

Mark your calendar for the International Rally September 30-October 5 and the Region 5 Rally October 11-16 to be held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

PEACH STATE KRACKERS The Peach State Krackers (PSK) got together one last time this year on Thursday, December 13, at Buckner’s Family Restaurant in Jackson, Georgia, for our Christmas Luncheon, Annual Business Meeting and Dirty Santa. There were 15 members present. Everyone enjoyed a delicious “family style” lunch and then it was time to get down to business.

We held our election for our officers for the New Year and the following members were elected:President: Jim WatsonVice President: Donna Jones Secretary/Treasurer: Barb Watson

A friendly game of Dirty Santa was played. Most of the members played nicely and chose not to steal anyone’s gift. That’s not any fun.

Coming up we have scheduled our Mid-South Tri-State Rally in Gulf Shores, Alabama for May 1-5, at Sugar Sands RV in Gulf Shores. This rally is being held during the 2019 Gulf Coast Balloon Festival in Foley, Alabama. There should be lots of things to see and do. Please go to the Klub Calendar for details.

Plans are being made for the Summer Rally that will be held in July of 2019. Details will be posted on the Klub Calendar when they are finalized.

Safe travels.Donna Jones (20599)Vice-President

CAROLINA’S (NC-SC)The North/South Carolina Christmas Rally was again a great success! Business meetings and elections for both Chapters were held for 2019. The Officers for the Tarheel Chapter; President Carl Webber, Vice President Florence Lee, Secretary Gayle Webber and Treasurer Chip Wright all agreed to serve again for the New Year. The Pals Chapter treasurer, Mark Blanchard asked to be retired, he has served as Treasurer for many years! We thank Mark for his service. A new treasurer was elected, Carla Miller will take over the treasure duties for 2019. President Tom Hahn, Vice President Jim Miller and Secretary Carrie Hahn will continue to serve in the 2019 year.

Gary Smith and our ever-hard-working Volunteer members did another outstanding job with all 200 Newmar and other RV’s parked in a timely manner at the Tampa Supershow Rally. We appreciate all of our great volunteers! Thanks to all for a job well done! The Newmar Officials gave their annual reports for the 2019 year. Linda Feece had the Newmar clothing store available for members to purchase.

The vendor area had just about anything you could ever need for your RV. The Newmar RV’s were beautiful and had so many to look at and see what is new for 2019.

Philip & I are very proud of our two chapters, especially our hard-working Secretaries! Both of them produce great Newsletters and helped to grow their chapters. Participations in our rallies were also up this past year! Many thanks to all the Pals & Tarheel members.

Philip & I are looking forward to our North/South Carolina Rally to be held in Blacksburg, South Carolina at the Iron City Camp

Ground in April 23-27. We have a great agenda planned and are looking forward to a great State Rally in the spring. We wish all our members a wonderful and prosperous New Year and safe traveling!Till we see you all again!

NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELSHey y’all! Welcome to 2019. Am I the only person who continues to write the previous year any time a date is required for the entire first quarter of the New Year? Just wondering …

Like MANY of our fellow Newmartians, we are snow-birding in Florida again this year. By the time this is published, the Tampa RV Super Show will be history and I’m sure we’ll have a lot of funny stories to tell. It’s always a lively event and a great time to not only have your coach repair items done by the Newmar Techs, but it provides an opportunity to sit down with the Newmar leadership and learn what is going on within Newmar and in the industry as a whole. If you weren’t able to attend this year, I hope you’ll consider registering for the 2020 event as soon as it becomes available.

Speaking of registering, the Carolinas State Rally is right around the corner (April 23 – 27) and is sure to be a lot of fun. It will be held at the new Iron City Campground in Blacksburg, South Carolina with adventures to the Cooley’s Family Farm, the BMW factory, and the Freightliner Custom Chassis Plants. Check out the details on the Calendar of Events and register soon – camp sites are limited!

Gayle & I extend our sincere thanks to our Tarheel Kountry Klub members for allowing us to continue to serve as your chapter Secretary and President, respectively, and also thank Florence Lee and Chip Wright for agreeing to continue in their respective roles as Vice President and Treasurer. The chapter began 2018 with 55 member-coaches and closed out the year with 67, for a net increase of 12. That is very exciting, but as we remind our members often – this is YOUR Klub, and while we are happy to provide leadership, we cannot be successful and continue to grow as a Klub without YOUR help. To that end, we need YOU, the members, to step up and volunteer to host rallies and/or lunches through the year.

As always, we encourage our chapter members to share with us your travel news and any questions, concerns, comments or suggestion for the betterment of the chapter. We are here to serve y’all, but we can’t do it without your input and help. Thank you.

Wherever your Newmar takes you, travel safely and enjoy the lifestyle.Carl and Gayle Webber (20143)President and [email protected] /[email protected] 704-225-7442/ 704-619-1851

SOUTH CAROLINA PALMETTO PALSThese mid-winter months will find the Palmetto Pals “recovering” from the holiday season and for many, safely south. During our “Christmas at the Beach” rally in December, so many shared

Page 33: Exclusive Magazine For Owners Of Newmar Recreational Vehicles · 2/2/2019  · minutes from Punta Gorda and the Charlotte Harbor - gateway to the Gulf of Mexico. Thornton Creek has

33FEBRUARY / MARCH 2019 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

their enthusiasm in seeing the friends in Florida primarily and enjoying the luncheons and rallies that are frequent in the Sunshine State, specifically. What a wonderful “perk” as a Newmar Kountry Klub member which allows anyone in the Klub to join any formal or informal gathering, regardless of chapter membership! The calendar always has the contact to let you know who to call if you want to join that event, consequently increasing the comradery and learning from other Newmar owners how to best enjoy “the ride.”

The lifeblood of any chapter is its’ volunteers. Case in point, our Carolinas “Christmas at the Beach” rally was hosted by Roger & Peggy Weeks who have faithfully served in multiple officer positions for decades. Despite they no longer are in positions of “official” leadership, they chose to host again this last year ~ amazing. We want to express our deep gratitude for the strength and direction they have given selflessly. The Pals’ Treasurer position was vacated this year by Mark Blanchard, another dedicated volunteer who has also held multiple positions for decades! But we are thrilled to announce a new volunteer has stepped into the Treasurer position, Carla Miller, from Columbia, South Carolina, who will do a tremendous job.

The Tampa Super Show found the Pals volunteering in multiple locations. This year, Carrie & I volunteered for the Parking Team. Certainly, stepping out of our comfort zones, but it is such an opportunity to meet new people and engage on an entirely different platform. It is tremendous to see the faces of volunteers every place you look. Again, where would we be without volunteers?

Our chapter is experiencing plenty of growth and are always looking for new opportunities to be together – formally and informally - plans are already being made for rallies into 2020, and we are exploring more luncheon locations and times throughout the year to attract those within our lovely Lowcountry state as well as those who “pass through.” Keep your eyes on the NKK Calendar!

God’s speed,Tom and Carrie Hahn (22143)President/[email protected]

TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER KRUISERSLet the fun begin! We have gobbled our way through Thanksgiving, enjoyed our way through Christmas, kicked off the New Year, shopped our way through the Tampa Show and now my favorite season begins...CAMPING SEASON! It’s time to get those coaches out of storage, get them dusted off, washed and ready to go!

Before totally forgetting about last year, I would like to take this opportunity one last time to thank our Tennessee Volunteer Kruiser members for hanging in there for another year. We closed out our 2018 year with a membership of 49 coaches. You are the greatest! I would also like to say a huge thank you to our Region 5 Directors (Gary & Wanda Smith) for all their efforts with the Region 5 Nashville Rally and especially the Tampa Super Show. And last but not least, to Phil & Charlene Budd (our Tennessee State Directors) for their hard work in putting on hugely successful, fun rallies and for helping to keep our chapter members happy.

But now, more about camping. I’ve started loading up my calendar with fun events, travel destinations and rallies to attend in 2019. One upcoming event is the Tennessee State Rally to be held this year in Southaven, Mississippi on June 10-13. This rally will be well worth the travel time and Phil & Charlene have some fun things planned. Be sure to check the NKK Calendar of Events to see if there is anything you might want to put on your calendars. As always, we are looking for new locations to hold rallies. If during your travels last year, you found any “hidden treasures”, please be sure to pass them along to your chapter officers. We are willing to work with you to host/co-host a new and different rally for all to enjoy. And don’t forget, “Got a hobby?”, turn it into a rally!

In closing, I would like to put out there one small reminder. . . Keep in mind that there are many RVers in your state and surrounding areas that might own a Newmar but do not belong to a local chapter. They may have never heard of us (unbelievable I know) but our recruiting efforts occasionally miss a few. I am going to make a special effort this year to get in touch with those “poor lost souls” to introduce our chapter to them and to see if they might be interested in joining us in our travels and events. If you see one of them in a campground or RV Park where you might be staying, make a special effort to introduce yourselves and talk about our Volunteer Kruiser chapter. Keep a few older Konnection magazines around so that you can give them one and if you would like a few blank membership applications, let me know.

VIRGINIAI thought retirement was going to be kicking back, enjoying life, and visiting with our fellow humans. Man was I wrong. We had to stay at Americamps till Thanksgiving to deal with medical issues and for the first time in several years I had to break out my one pair of long pants, jeans actually, it got so cold. We hit the road on Thanksgiving Day and got to Lake Magic two days later. Nice warm but rainy weather and I packed up my long pants. We have been enjoying the area and attended the Manatees Rally in St Augustine, Florida. What a great time. We did the Festival of Lights which was amazing. They give you a pair of what looks like 3-D glasses you use to get to watch Shark Week stuff. They had the effect of turning all the lights into snowflakes – really amazing. I would encourage everyone to do this. Keep your glasses – we did not unfortunately – and you can have your own Festival of Lights.

We had a great Christmas and hope everyone else did too. The family, food, and gifts were excellent as always. We hope everyone got what they wanted and ate your and my share of Mince Meat Pie. This was a bad year for the Mince Meat Trees with all the rain and frost so getting the makings for the Mince Meat Pie was a bit challenging. We are looking forward to the New Year and continuing our RV adventures with all of our Newmar friends.

We have drilled down on a date for the Virginia State Rally, May 30-June 2, at Americamps RV Resort in Ashland, Virginia. This is a great rally resort close to a lot of tourist activities. Additional details will be provided in the Konnection when reservation time opens up. Please reserve your spot early. We are looking forward to seeing all our fellow Newmarians as we travel down the highway of life.

Drive safe and take time to enjoy family, friends, and of course the RVing lifestyle.Michael and Marcy Vreeland (20733)Virginia State [email protected] (hers)540-809-9830 (his)

36 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM FEBRUARY / MARCH 2019

We remember way back when… when time seemed to pass so slow. A year going by seemed to take forever. I guess what they say about time passes fast when you are having a good time. We have so much fun with all our Newmar friends and family. A new year causes us to reflect on some of the things that happened in the past year. We had so much fun and laughed so hard at our rallies we even cried. We made some friends and we lost some friends. In Michigan we lost both the Pikaart’s, Tom & Linda. Tom was the pancake man at all the Michigan rallies. He and Linda were very active in the Michigan Aires serving as officers and often rally hosts. They were always welcoming to us. Sometimes it is difficult

being the new people at a chapter event but these people were so

gracious and welcomed us right away. We will miss both of you. I have included a picture of them with this article.

On a lighter note, we have seen growth in all of our Region for new members of the Kountry Klub and for the chapters. This is happening all across the US as we hear from some of our other Region Directors. People are buying these RVs and wanting to travel and enjoy them. Joining a club set up for just this purpose is appealing to a lot of them. Remember when you have a rally schedule planned well in advance even if it is just the dates and a place (you can fill in the rest closer to the rally) people can put things on their calendar and not have made other plans they can’t change.

You have probably heard the song “It’s a Small World”. Well it sure is. In November we made a trip to Gaffney, North Carolina to have some work done at Freightliner. We pulled in and parked, went to the office and signed in, came back to the rig had dinner, and were exhausted so we hit the sack early. Next morning Jerry came in the coach and said I think Bill & Beth White our West Virginia State Directors are in the coach right next to us. I opened the door and he was right as Beth was waving to me from inside her coach. We went to breakfast together and then Beth and I had a great time shopping. Later we were all sitting in the lounge and were talking to some other people and come to find out they were best friends of a couple in the Buckeye Kountry Travelers, Phil & Susie Peoples. Everywhere we go we find people we have a connection to. It is a Small World don’t you think?

We have set the date for the Region 6 Rally for 2019. It will be May 15-19. It will be held at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds

Region Directors :: Jerry and Phyllis Rose (10792-L)

REGION 6 // IN, KY, MI, OH, WVin Marshall, Michigan. So, come join us and see all your Newmar friends and family in May. It is always such a blast to see everyone again at that first rally.

Jerry & I had been talking about how difficult it is to get good attendance for a region or state rally when both are held in the same state that summer. We decided to offer to our state directors that when we are having the region rally in their state, they can join our region rally and use it as their state rally that year. We always rotate the region rally in alphabetical order of the states in our region. This year we are in Michigan and Chuck & Michelle Steenwyk decided to take us up on joining in on the region rally and not holding a separate state rally. We have done some planning together and hope you come to enjoy a great time. If I can wrap up a few more things before this magazine goes to press, I will be able to price the rally. At the time of writing this article I do not have all of my prices. I do have a partial ad in this magazine. Look for more info on the Newmar Kountry Klub website as it will all be finished by the time you receive this issue.

We hate that we will miss the chapter rallies in June, July, and the first of August but we are the tail gunners for the Alaska caravan and will be gone most of the summer. We do look forward to seeing you at our region rally and at any state rallies once we return and definitely in late September in Syracuse for International. They have come back from the west and it is not far from our region so please make your plans now to attend.

Happy Trails . . .

KENTUCKY Where did 2018 go? I am writing this just before Christmas and it will be in the February issue of the Konnection Magazine. This morning Nancy & I were going over our Christmas list and checking it twice. We discussed buying something for our coach but we decided we had all we needed already in it. We wondered what the people who own a ½ or ¾ million-dollar coach have on their Christmas list for their coach. During 2018 Nancy & I attended a great International Rally, Region 6 Rally and I thought the Kentucky State Rally was relaxing at a scenic location. We also attended the Rally in the Keys. We spent 82 nights in our coach this year.

I am also working on some New Year’s Resolutions for 2019. I am going to try to open the door for more people next year, I am also going to try to smile at everyone I make eye contact with next year. You men who see me smiling at your wife, don’t get mad at me I am too old to be of any threat. If you don’t believe me just ask Nancy.

I hope and pray all who read this enjoy good health during 2019 and continue to enjoy your coach.

Let’s all try to remember and practice the Golden Rule.Ralph and Nancy Dennis (20372)Kentucky State Directors

MICHIGANHello from Michigan. We have been having a mild winter so far up here….but I’m sure Jack Frost will visit us soon! We will be going to Florida for the Tampa Super Show so winter will be broken up for us a little bit this year. We are looking forward to spending time with the group in the SUN!!!

37FEBRUARY / MARCH 2019 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM

Our calendar is looking pretty set for the 2019 season. We will be starting off the summer with the combined Region 6 Rally & Michigan State Rally May 15-19 in Marshall, Michigan. In June the Michigan Chapters will be with the Ohio Buckeye Kountry Travelers at Sauder Village in Ohio from the 14-16 for a combined rally. July 11-14 we will be having Christmas in July in Birch Run, Michigan. August 1-4 you will find us in Jenison, Michigan at the Steamboat Park Campground for a fun weekend of camping on the Grand River and we will be going on a river cruise. September 30-October 5 is the INTERNATIONAL RALLY!!!

In a previous article we were thanking Michelle’s parents for introducing us to the Newmar products and Newmar family. What a blessing this group has been in our lives. We have met people from all over the United States and have traveled many places with the group. We have had a rough end to our 2018 year. We lost both of Michelle’s parents (Tom & Linda Pikaart 11588-L) in December. They were very active members for many years and loved this group. The Newmar Family has been wonderful with cards, emails, calls, and visits. We were overwhelmed with all the support and love sent our way. Thank You, Thank You, Newmar family.

Safe Travels to you all…Chuck and Michelle Steenwyk (20036)Michigan State Directors [email protected]

OHIO Welcome everyone to 2019, a “New Year” and another chance to make new RV friends and lasting memories. 2018 brought us many new friends and several new… interesting…. adventures.

As we write this article, it is just after Christmas and a day before the 2019 New Year begins. We winter in Ohio so we don’t have much to write about. However, Flash had a “Good news/Bad news” story.

The good news: Big snow storms were forecast this winter for most of the country. So, in November Flash prepped the big new snow blower he bought himself for Christmas last year but hadn’t used. He started it to make sure it was ready to handle all that white stuff. He knew the snow blower was big and heavy but it sure would beat shoveling all that snow.

The bad news: Flash told Beverly she may have to help him with removing all that snow if we got snowed in. He also informed her the machine was too big and heavy for her to use and didn’t think she would be able to handle it. Soooo…for her Christmas gift he bought her a brand new “Snow Shovel”…That, really didn’t go over well.

Well, the better news for anyone living in the Dayton, Ohio area (especially Flash), was that we didn’t get any of the forecasted snow that many of our north/eastern folks had to worry about this year. Now “Winter 2018” is gone!! We are anxiously waiting for spring time, the start of our RV Camping Season and reconnecting with many of our Newmar family/friends. (We may not need to address that snow shovel thing either.)

For 2019, sadly we did have some members unable to rejoin our Klub. However, in 2018 several new couples joined the Buckeye Kountry Travelers (BKT) and a few more nice folks signed up

for 2019. Although our chapter has been small, the increase in membership indicates “we are growing again”. Come join us at one of our rallies in 2019. Let’s mingle with those other Newmar RV’ers. Who knows…maybe someone will come up to you and say: “Can We Join Your BKT-Newmar Kountry Klub?” Of course they will!

For more info regarding the BKT’s, contact any of our prestigious Klub Officers: (Pres)-Steve White 614-917-3263, (VP)-Rick Fox 513-617-8914, (Sec)-Gail Swartz 440-476-4936, (Tres)-Donna White 614-917-3296, or Us (the Miller’s- Bev & Flash contact info below).

We are still researching areas in Northern Ohio for our State Rally in early August. Tentative Rally date is August 1-4, info will follow soon. We hope you’ll reserve that date and join us then.

That’s all for now folks! We hope you all have a safe, healthy and fun New Year.

As always,Flash and Bev Miller (9855) Ohio State Directors 513-932-8352(h) 937-478-9850(c) [email protected] (Bev) [email protected] (Flash)

WEST VIRGINIAChristmas is over and the New Year is right around the corner. The year has gone very quickly. The Traveling Montani are looking forward to another great year of camping. Members of the Chapter met at Julio’s Restaurant on Friday, December 14, for the annual Christmas meeting. New members George & Brenda Murphy joined our chapter and came to our dinner. They have ordered a new Newmar toy hauler which will be delivered soon. After a great meal, President Jim Strader called the meeting to order and we began to discuss potential sites for our West Virginia State Rally for 2019. After much discussion, it was decided to investigate Pegasus Farm in Elkins as our rally site in the middle of July. We tentatively set July 18-21 as our State Rally dates. There are several things to do in Elkins including train rides and dinner shows.

Elections were held and the following members were elected to serve during 2019.President, Jim StraderVice-President, Peter McDonaldSecretary, Sharon StraderTreasurer, Charlotte Barnete

At least two coaches are going to the Tampa RV show and there is a possible third. We plan to camp with the Newmar Group and will meet with some friends from Ohio and enter the show as a group so we can be located close to each other.

As we travel over the next year we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in as many locations as possible.

God Bless You,Bill and Beth White (20471)West Virginia State [email protected]@yahoo.com

NEW ENGLAND AIRESFor those of us that don’t travel south from New England for the winter it is the time of year to be enjoying winter sports and making plans for the upcoming camping season.

We have the following two rallies scheduled for this year. If you have not been to one of our rallies, please consider joining us for at least one this year. You do not have to be a chapter member to come and see what we are all about.

As of this date we have chapter rallies booked at Grandview camping in Moodus, Connecticut from May 16-19. We will then be at Shore Hills Campground in Boothbay, Maine from July 18-21. More information for these can be found on the Kountry Klub website. Please sign up as early as possible as it will make planning easier for those hosting.

Please let us know if any of you would like to host, co-host or know of a campground that may make a good rally site it would be great to add one more rally to this year’s schedule.

HUDSON AIRESOur end-of-season luncheon was held on November 3rd at Albany RV, our sponsoring Newmar dealership. Three charter member couples were joined by eight new-to-Newmar, potential Hudson Aires members. Some joined that day, others need to join NKK first. We look forward to adding to our chapter’s membership, which currently stands at 34. We had 11 charter members when the chapter formed in June of 2017, so the chapter’s growth over a year and a half is encouraging.

Tony Strollo, founder of the company, shared stories about the company’s beginnings. Mark Strollo shared information about the changes and growth RVOne is facing as they partner with RV Retailer. We are looking forward to improved customer satisfaction with service available seven days a week, a second shift to expand hours, and 24 hour technical assistance.

Two rallies for September, 2019 are in the works. The Adirondack Balloon Festival in Queensbury, New York, has a rally field for dry camping. Dates are September 19-22. Details to follow. Immediately following the balloon festival, we’ll return to Lake George RV Park from Sunday, September 22 to Wednesday, September 25. Again, details to follow and keep checking the NKK Calendar of Events.

Following the Lake George Rally, we’ll head to the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse for the International Rally. Region 7 and the New York State chapters are honored to host this huge event, and are glad to have a rally in the East. Please seek out your state and regional directors to volunteer for the many positions available to make this International Rally the success everyone has come to enjoy.

At the time this is published, the Tampa Rally at the RV Super Show will be history. We always enjoy reconnecting with friends and meeting new members at the rally and under the Newmar Kountry Klub membership tent on the show grounds.

After wintering in Sarasota, Florida, and attending a Newmar luncheon or two, we look forward to the 2019 camping season and the many chapter and regional rallies coming up.

See you around a campfire down the road.John and Diane Svatek (21793)Presidents

I saw a sign the other day that said, “There are two types of people: those who watch things happen and those who make things happen. There is a lot of room for making things happen. Therein lies the winds of change. The more people are advocates, the stronger the movement.”

One only needs to look at the October/November edition of the Konnection magazine to see the great work done by our International Directors, Bob & Bonnie Krieger (12508-L). Their report shows the phenomenal growth the Klub has seen under their leadership. Through their hard work and dedication to the Klub they certainly can be put into the category of those who make things happen. The winds of change are upon us and we certainly hope the momentum continues to trickle down to each and every one of us, so we can enjoy the best RV Klub there is. If you have not signed on to one of the Klub’s Facebook pages (one for each region and one for the Fulltimers) then I ask this of you: “why not?” They are a great place for social networking, sharing of information and gatherings all of which the Klub is famous for.

We are pleased to report Douglas & Sylvia Anderson have stepped up to be the new presidents of the Alberta Wild Rose Chapter. Lorne Pearson will assume the duties of Vice president. The chapter is still in desperate need of a Secretary/Treasurer to keep track of the membership roster. If this is of interest to you please email either the Region 9 Directors, Douglas Anderson or Lorne Pearson.

Save the dates for these upcoming rallies which are currently tentative:Region 9 – Watrous Saskatchewan – May 27-May 30Manitoba – Brandon – May 22-25 (NOTE LOCATION CHANGE)Alberta – Bretton – May 31-June 32019 International Rally will be held from September 30-October 5 in Syracuse, New York.

At the time of this report, we find ourselves in our normal winter destination of Mexico enjoying the sun, surf and sand. Sometime in March we will venture north to take in some of the lunches in the Arizona area then up to the factory to get some major upgrades done to the coach. We hope to get a new floor, residential fridge, power front blinds and a desk installed, along with the annual maintenance on the powertrain. From here we will travel to the Manitoba Rally, Region 9 Rally, then to the Alberta Rally. These three rallies are almost back to back and they promise to hold something of interest for everyone. There is a planned caravan to each one, so stay tuned for some great fun.

Immediately after the Alberta rally you will find us on our way to the “Newfoundland & Maritimes Provinces Caravan”. Twenty-two rigs will enjoy 52 nights of great food, fellowship and the most

spectacular scenery you can find. Why not come along for any part of these events? You’ll be glad you did!

As always, our door is always open, and we look forward to all comment and suggestions

We meet, We part, We hope to meet again….

BRITISH COLUMBIAAs I write this sitting in a motel room in Ely, Nevada, 20oF, snow everywhere, we are on our way to our winter home in River Lodge Resort, Parker Dam, California. We spent November at the park then drove home to Cranbrook, British Columbia for December and Christmas with the family.

As this is written we are really looking forward to joining the “Gathering in the Desert” January 16. We will be meeting some friends from around the country and it should be fun. The “Gathering” has been a popular event for NKK members and anyone who wants to join in. I understand it has been going on for quite a few years and at one time had units in attendance numbering in the hundreds. You should definitely think about adding it to your bucket list.

The combined British Columbia Provincial & Dogwood Chapter Rally will likely be in July at a venue to be announced soon. We are looking at something a little different and unique (similar to the previous paragraph). Stay tuned.

We would like to welcome all new Newmar owners and we encourage you to join the Newmar Kountry Klub as well as your local State or Provincial Chapters. In British Columbia it is the British Columbia Dogwood Klub.

Safe and Happy Travels,Wayne and Doris Erickson (20938)British Columbia Provincial Directors

We extend our deepest sympathy to Michelle & Chuck Steenwyk (20036) on the passing of

Michelle’s parents Tom & Linda Pikaart (11588-L). Linda passed away on December 5, 2018 and

Tom passed away on December 16, 2018. They are past chapter officers and have been members

since August 2000.

Michelle’s address is 3593 Perry St, Hudsonville, MI 49426.

We extend our sincere sympathy and prayers to the families of our passed on members.

Cancellation Policy For Region, State, Provincial Rallies

Due to the large number of late cancellations, the Kountry Klub has experienced significant financial losses from non-refundable commitments made during the planning stages.A new Region, State/Provincial Rally “Cancellation Policy” is being implemented.1) An administrative fee of $10/person will be charged. This fee will cover

costs associated with processing your rally registration and will be included in the rally fees as advertised.

2) Members who register for a rally and then:a) For whatever reason, cancel a minimum of 35 days prior to the start

of the rally will receive a full refund, less the administrative fee of $10/person.

b) Cancel 34 to 8 days prior to the start of a rally will be charged for any non-refundable commitments made on your behalf in addition to the $10/person fee.

c) Cancel 7 or less days prior to the start of a rally will receive No Refund on any portion of the rally fee paid.

3) Members who register for a rally and do not advise the Hosts that they will not be attending will receive no refund.

4) All refunds will be made at the conclusion of the rally.

PLEASE NOTE: Planning any rally requires long-term organization. Many service providers require non-refundable financial commitments. Because these deposits and financial commitments are often made well in advance of any rally, this policy becomes a necessity.

Please notify the Kountry Klub immediately if you have to cancel your trip.

Cancellations will be accepted for Special Travel Events and Caravan Tours on the following conditions:

a) A $25.00 per person cancellation fee will be charged anytime you cancel an event reservation.

b) For reservations cancelled 69 days to 30 days from the start of the event, you are responsible for all non-refundable portions of the financial commitments paid out by the Klub on your behalf for the event plus $25.00 per person cancellation fee.

c) If you cancel 29 days or less prior to the event, you will receive no refund until after the event and receive only that portion the Kountry Klub can recover. The $25.00 per person cancellation fee still applies.

d) Deposit must be with reservations and full payment must be to be confirmed.

Cancellation Policy applies to the following Events:• Alaska Caravan June 1 - July 14, 2019• Maritimes/Newfoundland Caravan July 3 - August 24, 2019• Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta October 9-14, 2019

Please Note: The Kountry Klub must pay some non-refundable financial commitments and deposits well in advance of events. We cannot absorb losses on last minute cancellations, and we will no longer do so. These commitments make this cancellation policy a necessity. We thank you for your understanding.

Along the way we stopped in Albuquerque and hosted the 2018 Balloon Fiesta Newmar special event from October 5th through the 10th. This year’s Balloon Fiesta group was made up of twenty rigs plus nine additional guests in the rigs including three youngsters from three to nine years of age. What a treat for all of us grandparents! This was a wonderful group and we all had such a great time together socializing and sharing experiences.

The arrival afternoon social and welcome was followed by a Host prepared brisket sandwich, salad and baked beans dinner complete with a balloon decorated cake for dessert. Following this an evening seminar was presented by a long-time balloon pilot and instructor. This presentation was very informative and well received by the group and was a great learning experience before we all went on the launch field for the Fiesta opening the next morning.

Each of the next four days we sampled the culinary fare of Albuquerque with lunches and lastly a dinner the last evening. Each day of the Balloon Fiesta there were scheduled activities on the balloon field - a short

walk from where our coaches were parked. Depending on wind direction balloons flew over our coaches at very low altitude as they launched or as they returned to the field. By the hundreds we watched them inflate, stand up tall and launch.

The weather was a little fickle as can be expected but the winds did allow for quite good mass ascensions on two mornings and there were fireworks one night. Several of our group scheduled balloon rides.

This event is unique in its size and the ability of all the spectators to walk on the launch field literally among the balloons as they are prepared for launch and being launched. Neither words nor pictures can communicate the thrill of what you experience being so close to so many balloons being launched during these mass ascensions! Maybe we will see YOU there next year.Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes2018 & 2019 Balloon Fiesta Special Event Hosts

Once again, we had a wonderful adventure in the Florida Keys with 47 total units in attendance. For the most part, the weather cooperated although we had a couple of days of cool, windy weather, we were still able to enjoy our tours, dinners and fellowship. Arrival on Monday was handled very well by the resort staff with only a couple of site changes needed to accommodate everyone. Our Welcome Dinner was topped off with ice cream provided by FCIS and our very own storyteller, Kentucky State Director Ralph Dennis, who shared his own laughable moments. Tuesday everyone was off to Key West for a day of on and off touring on the trolley around the Key. There were plenty of tales from the trolley drivers and many sights to see. Some elected to visit various attractions and some even stayed for the evening sunset. On Tuesday, four new Newmar units from North Trail arrived for our viewing. Attendees enjoyed seeing the new 2019 models and the local staff and visitors also enjoyed seeing the Newmars. Wednesday and Thursday were days to learn about the history of the building of the railroad that brought progress to the early Keys and/or visiting the Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key. Although the boat ride to Pigeon Key was a bit choppy and a few were doused with sea water, the day was still reported as enjoyable by all. Visiting the dolphins opened our eyes to the efforts to better understand their habits and watching as the staff described various medical tests and treatments, they have trained the dolphins to tolerate. Dolphins can not drink salt water, so they offer them fresh water by inserting a tube to their stomach through which they provide fresh water. This is only one example of what we learned.Wednesday night’s dinner was sponsored by North Trail RV. Thank you Joe Jackson, Dan Cutting and Ray Gerring for sharing your knowledge of the Newmar brand and showing the units for 3 days.

Friday gave us an entertaining and exciting visit to Theater of the Sea. Again, they are a rescue mission serving many types of tropical animals, flora and fauna. Guides presented information and shows for sea lions, parrots, dolphins and various types of sea animals. Once again, this was one of the most-liked attraction.

Saturday was a free day and some elected to charter a fishing boat. Others visited additional attractions and many just relaxed for the day before our Farewell Dinner where we enjoyed a whole roasted pig prepared by our caterer Lobster Crawl Bar and Grill which is located at the resort.

Daily we met for a social to watch and capture the sunset. Some evenings provided a lovely show, others were very windy and that drove us inside the hall for a quieter social gathering.

We would be remiss not to mention the hardy souls who just love to play card bingo. Some were new to the activity, some were big winners and others gave to the cause. Regardless, all appeared to have fun.

And not to be outdone, Ralph’s wife Nancy entertained us with her revenge stories. Ralph & Nancy are an enjoyable couple who share their adventures, so we can laugh with them, not at them.

Our final morning together began with an optional devotion time and a continental breakfast. We greatly appreciate the help of our co-hosts Bill & Debbie Smith, Past Florida State Directors.

Although we had many first-time rally attendees and new members attending, we also had several return attendees. This tells us they really like this event which we hope to provide again next year with even more options for tours and attractions.

Safe travels and see you in the Keys.Ron and Wanda Llewellyn (16303-L)Rally Hosts

November 5 through 11 was a beautiful time of the year to celebrate Christmas in Branson. You never really know what the weather will be like in Missouri during early November. The first couple of days this year, we experienced the beautiful colors of fall; then we had a hard freeze, and it started to feel a lot like Christmas. Some of our participants were from warmer states, and they had never had the experience of preparing the motor homes for freezing weather. Some used their furnaces for the first time. Twenty-one couples attended the rally, and nineteen different states were represented—all the way from New York to Los Angeles to Florida. Many of them had never attended a Newmar event before, but they all seemed to have a good time. We made some wonderful new friends and look forward to seeing them again in the future.

We stayed in Ozark Country RV Park. They had a rally room that just fit our group. Every morning we cooked breakfast for our group. Although there weren’t many electrical outlets, where there is a will, there is a way.

Our days were jam-packed full of food and shows. We started things off with a BANG! The first show was the Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede. Some of us were skeptical at first that we would be eating WITH OUR HANDS! (Even the soup.) Afterwards, the comments were so positive. One person said it was the most delicious Cornish game hen she had ever had. And, of course, we drank the soup out of a bowl. The

courses were professionally served as we watched the performances of the horses and riders. Other fun acts included pigs racing, chicken chases, and many other activities.

The next day, Tuesday, we went to three different Christmas shows and somehow managed to find time to eat out too. On Wednesday, we had another day with three shows at 10:00, 2:00, and 8:00. Dinner was served at the Fall Creek Restaurant where they threw the hot rolls to us (or at us). On Thursday, we slowed down a little. We only attended two shows that day. We enjoyed dinner at the Uptown Café, which had the theme of an old 50’s restaurant. On Friday, we got to sleep in a little. The first show was the 12:00 dinner show aboard the Branson Belle Showboat. Two of our folks were chosen to come on stage to help the magician/entertainer. He got more than he bargained for when he chose Steve Bono and Bob Bersey to help with his card trick. I’m not sure, but I think both of these guys may have been stand-up comedians in a previous life. That night we went to the beautiful Moon River Theatre where the Andy Williams Christmas Extravaganza was presented. On Saturday, we ate at Pasghetti’s and then attended the fabulous production “Samson” which was performed at the Sight and Sound Theater. That seemed to be everyone’s favorite show of the entire week. It was a wonderful ending to a wonderful week!Larry & Patsy Wood (12255-L)Rally Hosts
