Reconciliation: (Confession): Sat. 9-9:30am, 3:00-3:30pm or by appointment. Baptism: Baptism is conferred by appointment on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. At least one parent must be registered and a practicing member of the parish. Parents are requested to call the office (244-4709) to register for the pre-baptism class and date for baptism. Marriage: At least one of the parties must be registered and a practicing member of the parish. Please contact the office at least 8 months prior to the proposed date of the wedding. Funeral: Please contact a funeral home and they will notify the parish office. Newcomers/Addresses: Registration online or in business of-fice. Please notify the office with address changes. Parish Library; Please visit the parish library next to the church located in the elevator foyer. The library is open everyday and books are available for check out.

Lenten Offering for the first Sunday of Lent (March 18th) will be for St.
Joseph Family Shelter. This shelter is the only emergency shelter in
Polk County where the entire family unit can stay together (including
mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, and children of all ages.) St. Joseph
Shelter’s mission is to honor the humanity of each person by acknowl-
edging the emotional and financial crisis involved when a family finds
itself without housing or funds. Please choose one (or more) item to
bring to the box at the front of church for this good facility.
Their wish list is for: bus tokens (can be purchased at Price Chopper or
Hy Vee 10 for $17.50), diapers size 4 & 5, pull-ups any size, toilet pa-
per, Kleenex, zip-lock bags (sandwich size), and powered laundry soap.
Also, juice of all kinds (except tomato), and energy saving light bulbs of
any size, all purpose cleaner, Lysol, bleach, and books of forever
stamps.
God Bless You all for helping with our Lenten Offering. Remember,
Mother Teresa said, We can do no great things- only small things with
great love.

In 2017 Lisa received devastating news of cancer to her pancreas. Lisa is a very strong woman of faith which has helped her through this difficult time and through her treatments. My Dear Fellow Pilgrims, I use the term “Pilgrims” because all of us are going on a journey for forty days, called Lent. This Lenten journey takes us through the desert of self denial and penance to the Palm Sunday entrance into Jerusalem, the agony in the garden, the upper room and the institution of the Eucharist, to the cross of Calvary and finally to the empty tomb. On this journey, we are sustained by a deeper and more intense prayer life, and bolstered by acts of fasting and almsgiving. The Ash Wednesday Mass begins our journey. We are reminded of our mortality and our need for conversion of heart. Masses on Ash Wednesday are 7am, 8:45am, 5:30pm, 7pm Latin & 8:30pm Spanish. Every Friday during Lent at 5:30pm we will pray the Stations of the Cross. There will be a fish fry 5 to 7 every Friday. I encourage you to take this journey seriously and to put yourself entirely at the disposal of the Lord during this forty day trek from ashes to Easter. During Lent the follow Penitential Discipline is fundamental and required.
All the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence = no meat.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of Fast and Abstinence. Abstinence... Is a penitential practice consisting of refraining from the consumption of meat and is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and the Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. Pastors and parents are encouraged to see that children who are not bound by the obligation to fast and abstain are led to appreci-ate an authentic sense of penance. Fast and Abstinence… In addition to abstinence, fasting is to be observed by all Catholics between the ages of 18-59 years (inclusive). On days of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self-denial that are suitable to their condition. Have a Blessed Lent.
